Start with the symptom: won’t the Xbox app or Microsoft Store open, is a game missing from your library, does an install or update fail, or does an installed game refuse to launch? Note the exact error code and whether the problem affects one game or several before changing settings. Most first-line checks are reversible; a Gaming Services registry workaround applies only to specific Windows 10 errors.
Identify where PC Game Pass is failing
Write down the exact message or error code, the Windows version, and whether the failure happens during sign-in, browsing, installation, updating, or launch. Check whether Microsoft Store also has trouble and whether the issue affects one game or multiple games. These details help distinguish an app problem from a missing listing or a game-specific failure.
Make sure you are signed in with the Microsoft account associated with your access. Microsoft lists account authorization among the possible reasons an app cannot be installed from the Store. Microsoft’s missing-app guidance covers other availability checks as well.
If the Xbox app or Microsoft Store will not open
Try the basic app checks first
- Close the affected app completely, then open it again.
- Check Windows Update and install applicable updates. Restart if Windows requests it.
- Update Microsoft Store from its Library or updates area.
- Check that the app is compatible with your installed Windows version.
- In Windows app settings, try the app’s Repair option. If that does not help, try Reset; reinstall the app from Microsoft Store if needed.
Windows 10 and Windows 11 differ in some settings labels and locations, so look for the app’s settings page rather than relying on a single menu path. Microsoft lists these steps for Store apps in its Windows 10 and 11 troubleshooting guide.

Reset the Microsoft Store cache if Store itself will not launch
- Press Windows key + R to open Run.
- Enter
wsreset.exeand select OK. - Wait for the blank command window to close and Microsoft Store to open automatically; Microsoft says this can take about ten seconds.

If a Game Pass game is missing or cannot be installed
A missing listing does not by itself establish that Game Pass is down. Check whether the game is available in your country or region, hidden by family settings, removed from Microsoft Store, incompatible with your device, or blocked pending a Windows restart. Confirm that you are signed in with an authorized Microsoft account. These are among the possibilities in Microsoft’s guidance for missing or un-installable Store apps.

If the game appears but installation or updating fails, note the precise code, restart if an update is waiting, and work through the app update and repair steps above. Avoid package-removal scripts or registry edits for an unspecified install error: the documented Gaming Services workaround is limited to a particular Windows 10 case.
If Gaming Services reports an error
Microsoft documents a narrow case on Windows 10: when installing or starting an Xbox Game Pass game sends you to the Gaming Services Store page and shows error 0x80073D26 or 0x8007139F. Its June 2021 support item names update KB5004476 as the resolution and also describes a workaround involving elevated PowerShell and registry changes, followed by a restart and reinstall of Gaming Services. Do not apply that registry workaround to a different code, a different Windows version, or a general Gaming Services problem. It changes system-level settings; if you are unsure whether your error matches the documented case or how to follow its steps, contact Microsoft Support.
If a game installs but will not launch
Record the launch error and check whether other games start. Update Windows and the Xbox app, then use the Xbox app’s Repair or Reset option in Windows app settings. If the failure is accompanied by one of the two Windows 10 Gaming Services codes above, use only the matching Microsoft instructions. The general Store app guidance does not establish a single fix for every game-launch failure.

When to contact Microsoft Support
If the relevant checks do not resolve the problem, open Get Help and continue to Contact Support when offered. Include your Windows version and build, the exact error message or code, whether Store also fails, which games are affected, and the steps you have already tried.
