pegreg32.dll is missing because a Pegasus-related application cannot find one of its own program files. It is not normally a Windows, Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET system DLL, so the safest fix is to identify the program that calls it and repair or reinstall that program.
The file is commonly described as Pegasus Software Registration and is associated with Pegasus Software applications. Older software may also involve the separate Pegasus Imaging or Accusoft product family, so the filename alone does not prove which application owns it. Do not download a random copy and place it in System32.
Before changing anything: identify the application
The error dialog usually names the executable that failed. Write down that name before closing the message. It may identify a Pegasus business application, an older imaging or barcode program, a launcher, or a helper process that starts with Windows.
Then check the installed programs list:
- Press
Win+Ito open Settings. - Select Apps.
- Open Installed apps on Windows 11, or Apps & features on Windows 10.
- Search for
Pegasus,Accusoft,Pegasus Imaging, or the application named in the error. - Select the program and note whether it offers Advanced options, Modify, Change, or Uninstall.
Also inspect the application folder:
- Right-click the program’s shortcut.
- Select Properties.
- Open the Shortcut tab.
- Select Open File Location.
- Look for
pegreg32.dllbeside the application’s.exe.
A DLL beside the program that reports the error is a strong clue that it belongs to that installation. A copy found unexpectedly in C:WindowsSystem32 does not automatically belong there. Private application DLLs are normally installed in the application’s own directory, and the correct location depends on the parent software.

Check the file’s details and signature
If you find a copy of the file, right-click it and select Properties.
On the Details tab, check:
- File description
- Product name
- Company
- File version
Public file indexes have described pegreg32.dll as “Pegasus Software Registration” and have reported a Win32 file with an older version and small file size. Those values are identification clues rather than proof that a file is genuine. Versions and sizes can differ between legacy products, and there is no current vendor manifest confirming one universal build.
Open the Digital Signatures tab if it is present. Check the signer and select Details to confirm whether Windows reports that the signature is valid. An absent or invalid signature does not by itself prove malware, particularly with old software, but it is a reason not to restore the file blindly.
Fix 1: repair the parent application
Time needed: 5–15 minutes
Application repair is the best first step because it can restore the matching DLL, registration data, permissions, and related files together.
Repair from Windows Settings
- Press
Win+I. - Select Apps.
- Select Installed apps.
- Find the Pegasus or Accusoft-related program.
- Select the three dots beside it.
- Choose Advanced options if available.
- Select Repair.
- Start the affected program again.
Windows may not offer Repair for traditional desktop software. If it does not, use the Control Panel method.
Repair from Control Panel
- Press
Win+R. - Type
appwiz.cpl. - Press Enter.
- Find the program in Programs and Features.
- Right-click it.
- Choose Repair.
If Repair is not listed, choose Change. The application’s installer may then offer Repair, Modify, or Reinstall.
A successful repair should allow the original application to start without the pegreg32.dll message. If the same error appears, note whether the wording changed. “The specified module could not be found” can mean that pegreg32.dll exists but one of its dependent files is missing.
If the application is not listed, skip to the reinstall step rather than trying to repair Windows itself.

Fix 2: reinstall the exact Pegasus or Accusoft program
Time needed: 15–45 minutes, plus any application-data backup
If repair fails, reinstall the parent application from its original installer or official customer download channel. This is safer than replacing a single DLL because legacy software often depends on installation records, licensing components, registry entries, database drivers, and additional runtime files.
Before uninstalling, back up the application’s data using its own backup function or the procedure supplied by your administrator or software provider. Do not assume that uninstalling will preserve business data.
Then:
- Close the affected program and any related background process.
- Open Settings → Apps → Installed apps.
- Select the program’s three-dot menu.
- Choose Uninstall and complete the wizard.
- Restart Windows.
- Run the original installer using Run as administrator.
- Install to the intended location.
- Restart Windows again if the installer requests it.
- Launch the program and test the operation that previously failed.
For Pegasus Software products, obtain the installer through Pegasus, its authorized partner, or the customer download channel supplied with the product. Current Pegasus documentation points customers toward partner-assisted installation and Infor-related download channels for supported products. Do not assume that a current Opera 3 installer contains this particular legacy DLL; confirm that the installer matches the application that produced the error.

For older Pegasus Imaging or Accusoft software, use the original supplier, license owner, or organization that deployed the application. The pegreg32.dll filename can occur in historically related product families, so installing a different Pegasus product will not solve the problem.
If the installer says the program is already installed, use Control Panel → Programs and Features → Change and select its repair or reinstall option. If no installer or license remains, contact the original software supplier instead of copying files from another computer.
Fix 3: check Windows Security quarantine
Time needed: 5–10 minutes
Antivirus software may have removed or quarantined a legacy DLL. This is plausible after a security-definition update, but a quarantine event is not proof that the file was safe or malicious.

Check the record before restoring anything:
- Open Start.
- Type Windows Security.
- Open the app.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Filter or browse for an event involving
pegreg32.dllor the affected application. - Expand the event and record the original file path and detection name.
Restore or allow the file only when all of these checks make sense:

- The application was installed from a trusted supplier.
- The file’s Properties information matches the installation.
- Its digital signature, if present, is valid.
- A current scan does not identify the file as malicious.
- You are restoring the original quarantined file, not replacing it with a downloaded copy.
If the file was in a temporary folder, a user-download folder, or an unexpected Windows directory, leave it quarantined and scan the computer. Microsoft warns that allowing an incorrectly identified file can expose the device if the file is actually malicious.
After a legitimate restore, launch the parent application. If Windows Security quarantines the file again, do not repeatedly restore it. Update the application from its official source and ask the software vendor or security administrator to review the detection.
Fix 4: confirm 32-bit and 64-bit compatibility
Time needed: 10–20 minutes
The 32 suffix is a clue that the file may be intended for a 32-bit application, but it is not definitive proof of the file’s architecture. A 32-bit program normally loads its private DLLs from its own installation folder or from the appropriate Windows compatibility paths.
Do not copy a downloaded DLL into both C:WindowsSystem32 and C:WindowsSysWOW64. On 64-bit Windows, those directories serve different purposes, and putting an unmatched vendor DLL into either directory can create new conflicts.
To check the application architecture:
- Open Task Manager with
Ctrl+Shift+Esc. - Select Details.
- Right-click a column heading.
- Select Select columns.
- Enable Platform if your Windows build provides it.
- Start the affected program and observe the process.
Some older applications do not expose a clear architecture label. In that case, the original installer and vendor documentation are more reliable than the filename.
Use the matching installer for the application. If the application is 32-bit, it may need the 32-bit build of a dependency even when Windows itself is 64-bit. If reinstalling still produces the error, ask the vendor whether the program requires a particular legacy build or compatibility setting.
Fix 5: determine whether a dependency is missing
Time needed: 10–30 minutes
Windows can report that a module could not be found even when pegreg32.dll is present. The missing item may be a dependency that the DLL needs to load.
Check the application folder for recently removed files and review the application’s own log files if it has them. Also look in Windows Security → Protection history for a related quarantine event.
Do not install Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET redistributables automatically just because a DLL error appeared. Install or repair one of those runtimes only when the application documentation or the error specifically identifies that runtime.
If reinstalling the parent application restores pegreg32.dll but the program still fails, contact the software supplier with:
- The exact error text
- The name and path of the calling
.exe - Your Windows edition and system architecture
- The application version shown in its Properties dialog
- Any quarantine detection name
- Whether the DLL exists beside the executable
This information helps the supplier identify a missing dependency without guessing.
Fix 6: use regsvr32 only for a self-registering DLL
Time needed: 5 minutes
Do not run regsvr32 merely because the file ends in .dll. regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that expose a registration entry point such as DllRegisterServer, commonly used by COM components. A private application DLL may not support registration at all.

regsvr32 "C:PathTopegreg32.dll"
A success message means Windows called the DLL’s registration entry point. An error saying the entry point is missing does not necessarily mean the file is corrupt. It may simply be a DLL that is not designed to self-register.
If Windows reports an architecture mismatch, stop and use the application’s installer or vendor instructions. Do not try random copies from System32 or SysWOW64.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFix 7: repair Windows components only when Windows itself is damaged
Time needed: 15–30 minutes, sometimes longer
DISM and System File Checker repair protected Windows components and the Windows component store. They normally do not recreate a missing third-party Pegasus DLL, so use them when other Windows features are also failing, not as the primary fix for this file.
- Save your work.
- Open Start.
- Type
cmd. - Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Approve the User Account Control prompt.
- Run:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for it to finish.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Test the affected application.
Microsoft recommends running DISM before SFC. If SFC reports that it found and repaired corrupted files, test Windows and the application again. If both commands complete without fixing the error, return to the parent-application reinstall rather than repeating them indefinitely.
When the manual DISM and SFC process becomes tedious, Outbyte PC Repair can provide a scan showing what it finds, while repairs are performed by the full version. It is optional, and reinstalling the Pegasus or Accusoft application remains the definitive fix when that program owns the missing DLL.
Fix 8: check drivers only if the application points to one
Time needed: 15–30 minutes
A display, storage, scanner, or imaging driver is not the usual owner of pegreg32.dll, but an older Pegasus Imaging application may rely on hardware or capture components. Update drivers only when the application error, vendor instructions, or Device Manager identifies a related device.
To check Device Manager:
- Press
Win+X. - Select Device Manager.
- Expand the relevant category, such as Display adapters, Imaging devices, Cameras, or Universal Serial Bus controllers.
- Right-click the device.
- Select Properties.
- Review the General tab for an error code.
- Open the Driver tab and note the provider and date.
- Prefer Update driver → Search automatically for drivers, or install the correct package from the hardware manufacturer.
- Restart Windows and test the application.
Do not remove a working driver simply because its date looks old. Legacy applications may require a particular vendor driver, and the application supplier should confirm compatibility.
Manually hunting through hardware pages and guessing which of many drivers is stale is avoidable with Outbyte Driver Updater, whose free scan shows the detected driver issues while the full version performs driver installation. It is optional, and it cannot replace reinstalling the application that supplied pegreg32.dll.
Fix 9: use System Restore after a recent change
Time needed: 15–30 minutes
System Restore is appropriate when the error began immediately after uninstalling software, installing an update, or completing a failed application installation.
- Press
Win+R. - Type:
rstrui.exe
- Press Enter.
- Select Next.
- Choose a restore point dated before the change.
- Select Scan for affected programs if available.
- Review the programs and drivers that will be affected.
- Select Close, then Next.
- Confirm the restore.
- Let Windows restart and complete the process.
System Restore rolls back system settings, drivers, and installed programs but does not normally remove personal files. If no suitable restore point exists, use application repair or reinstall instead.

Why pegreg32.dll errors happen
The likely causes, in practical order, are:
- The parent application was incompletely installed, damaged, upgraded, or removed.
- Antivirus software quarantined the DLL.
- An old application was copied to a new computer without its registry, licensing, dependencies, or installer data.
- The installed DLL does not match the application’s architecture or legacy version.
- A dependency of the DLL is missing.
- Disk damage or broader system corruption affected the application files.
- A suspicious or altered file is being blocked by security software.
The error is not normally fixed by a registry cleaner, by installing a random runtime, or by copying a DLL into Windows system directories.
FAQ
Is pegreg32.dll part of Windows?
No. It is treated as a third-party application file associated with Pegasus Software and related legacy Pegasus product families. Windows does not normally need it to start.
Does it belong to Microsoft Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET?
There is no basis for treating it as one of those runtime files. Repair those runtimes only if the actual error identifies a missing runtime component.
Can I download pegreg32.dll and copy it into System32?
Do not use that as the normal fix. A downloaded file may contain malware, belong to a different product, use the wrong architecture, or omit the dependencies and registration data the application needs.

Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Why does Windows say “the specified module could not be found” when the file is visible?
That message can refer to a dependency of pegreg32.dll, not necessarily the named file itself. Reinstall the parent application so its related files are restored together.
Should I register the DLL?
Usually not. Use regsvr32 only when the vendor confirms that this DLL is a self-registering component and provides the correct command.
Is a copy in System32 safe?
Not automatically. Verify its path, Properties details, signature, and the program that calls it. The expected location depends on the owning application.
What if the software is no longer supported?
Contact Pegasus, Accusoft, the original supplier, or your organization’s software administrator for the installer and licensing requirements. If no supported installer exists, replacing the obsolete application may be safer than forcing an unknown DLL into Windows.
