1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchespfpick.dll is a legacy Kodak application component, not a Windows system file. The safest fix is to identify the program requesting it, then repair or reinstall that complete program from its original, trusted installer instead of downloading a loose DLL.
What this file actually does
pfpick.dll is identified as ICC Profile Picker, part of Kodak Digital Science Profile Picker, developed by Eastman Kodak Company. It belongs to an older color-management system used by legacy imaging and graphics software.
An ICC profile describes how colors should be interpreted by a device or application. A profile-picker component helps older software select and use those color profiles. The file may therefore appear alongside other Kodak color-management components rather than operating as a standalone Windows utility.
Historical reports associate this group of files with old applications, including older Adobe Illustrator installations. That association comes from reports about legacy software, not from a current Adobe or Kodak support package. The important point is that pfpick.dll is an application dependency.

It is not:
- A Windows-generated system DLL
- A standard Microsoft Visual C++ runtime file
- A DirectX component
- A .NET component
- A current Windows feature
- A file that Windows Update normally supplies
The catalogued file is associated with 32-bit software. That matters when an old application is being run on 64-bit Windows 10 or Windows 11: Windows may run many 32-bit applications, but the application still needs the correct 32-bit Kodak files and any other dependencies it was designed to use.
Match the symptom to the likely cause
| What you see | Most likely cause | Best first action |
|---|---|---|
| “pfpick.dll is missing from your computer” | The application installation is incomplete or the file was deleted | Repair or reinstall the application |
| “The code execution cannot proceed because pfpick.dll was not found” | The program cannot find the DLL beside its executable or in its expected application directory | Check the requesting program and reinstall it properly |
| “Error loading pfpick.dll” | The DLL or one of its dependencies may be damaged or missing | Reinstall the complete Kodak-related application files |
| “The specified module could not be found” | The named DLL may be missing, or another DLL that it needs may be missing | Treat this as a dependency problem, not proof that only pfpick.dll is absent |
| The problem began after antivirus activity | The file may have been quarantined or removed | Check Windows Security Protection history |
| The program was copied to a new computer | Shared files, registry information, or companion Kodak DLLs may not have been copied | Install the program instead of copying its folder |
| The error appeared after a Windows or driver change | The old application may have compatibility problems | Try compatibility settings and restore the application |
| The error appears from a strange temporary folder | A stale shortcut, incomplete uninstall, or suspicious program may be requesting it | Verify the executable path before restoring anything |
Fix 1: Identify the program requesting pfpick.dll
Do this before copying or downloading any file. The requesting executable determines where the correct DLL belongs and which installer should provide it.
Read the complete error
Write down:
- The full error text.
- The name of the program shown in the title bar.
- Whether the error appears when opening a shortcut, document, plug-in, or installer.
- The path shown, if Windows provides one.
If the error only says that pfpick.dll is missing, right-click the shortcut that launches the program and select Properties. On the Shortcut tab, inspect Target. The executable path usually identifies the parent application.
For a pinned application:
- Right-click the taskbar icon.
- Right-click the application name in the jump list.
- Select Properties.
- Read the Target field.
If the path points to an old drive letter, a removed folder, a backup location, or a temporary directory, the shortcut may be stale. Create a new shortcut from the correctly installed application rather than placing a DLL into the old path.
Check whether the file is present
Open File Explorer and search the application’s own installation folder for:
pfpick.dll
Also look for related Kodak files, which may include:
sprof32.dll
kpcp32.dll
kpsys32.dll
icccodes.dll
PCDLIB32.DLL
Finding pfpick.dll does not prove the installation is healthy. The file may be damaged, incompatible, in the wrong directory, or unable to load a companion dependency.
Do not copy it to C:WindowsSystem32 or C:WindowsSysWOW64 as a first response. Those are global Windows directories, and placing an old application DLL there can create conflicts with other software.
Fix 2: Repair the parent application
Repair is the least destructive fix when the program still appears in Windows.
For a newer installed application
- Open Start > Settings.
- Select Apps.
- Select Installed apps.
- Find the application that displays the
pfpick.dllerror. - Select the three-dot menu beside it.
- Choose Advanced options, if available.
- Select Repair.
- Restart Windows and test the application.
The repair option may not appear for older desktop programs. If the application has its own setup program, open that installer and look for Repair, Change, or Modify.

For a traditional desktop program
- Press
Win+R. - Enter:
appwiz.cpl
- Press Enter.
- Select the affected application.
- Choose Repair or Change, if available.
- Follow the installer prompts.
- Restart Windows and launch the program from its installed shortcut.
A successful repair should stop the missing-file message and allow the application to reach its normal startup screen. If a new error names another Kodak DLL, do not download that DLL separately. The repair may have exposed a second missing component, so continue with a complete reinstall.
Fix 3: Reinstall the complete legacy application
For this file, a clean reinstall is usually more reliable than manual DLL replacement.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Use the original application installer, original installation media, or a legitimate installer supplied by the software publisher or organization that distributed the application. No current Kodak package specifically for pfpick.dll should be assumed to exist.
Before uninstalling
Make sure you have:
- The application installer or installation disc
- Any product key or activation information
- Backups of application settings and personal documents
- The installer for any required plug-ins
- A record of the current installation path
Uninstall and reinstall
- Close the affected application.
- Open Start > Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Select the affected program.
- Choose Uninstall and follow the prompts.
- If it is not listed, press
Win+R, enterappwiz.cpl, and remove it through Programs and Features. - Restart Windows.
- Run the original installer.
- Allow it to install all optional color-management or Kodak components.
- Use the installer’s default application directory unless its documentation specifies another location.
- Restart Windows again.
- Launch the application using the new installed shortcut.
If the software was previously copied from another computer, this step is especially important. Copying an application folder can omit companion DLLs, registry data, shared components, and installer configuration.
If the program is very old, install it in a supported older Windows environment or virtual machine where practical. Compatibility mode can help with some applications, but it cannot recreate missing Kodak files.
Fix 4: Check Windows Security quarantine
Antivirus software may remove or quarantine an old DLL because legacy files can have unusual metadata or behavior. A quarantine entry does not automatically prove the file is malicious, and it does not automatically prove that restoring it is safe.

Check Protection history
- Open Start.
- Type Windows Security.
- Open the application.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Review entries from the time the application stopped working.
- Expand any entry that identifies the affected application or
pfpick.dll.
Only restore a file when you can verify its provenance and identity. The safer choice is normally to reinstall the complete parent application from trusted media, then allow Windows Security to scan the new installation.
If Windows Security continues to remove the file:
- Do not repeatedly restore it.
- Run a full scan.
- Confirm that the installer came from a trusted source.
- Contact the application publisher or administrator responsible for the legacy software.
- Avoid adding a broad exclusion for an entire drive or Windows directory.
A file named pfpick.dll in an unrelated temporary, startup, or download folder deserves extra scrutiny. The name alone is not proof that it is the Kodak component.
Fix 5: Check 32-bit and 64-bit compatibility
The available identification of pfpick.dll associates it with 32-bit legacy software. A 64-bit Windows installation can run many 32-bit applications through its compatibility subsystems, but it cannot turn an incomplete or mismatched application installation into a supported one.
Check the following:
- Is the affected program an old 32-bit application?
- Was it copied from another computer instead of installed?
- Did you install a different release of the program than the one that created the documents?
- Are the Kodak companion files from the same application package?
- Is the application trying to load a DLL from a different folder?
- Did you place a 64-bit substitute beside a 32-bit executable?
Do not mix files from different releases or from unrelated applications. A DLL with the correct name can still have incompatible exports, dependencies, or internal behavior.

To check the application path:
- Right-click its shortcut.
- Select Properties.
- Read Target.
- Open that folder in File Explorer.
- Confirm that the application and its Kodak files are installed together.
If the program only works under an older Windows release, use a properly isolated older computer or virtual machine where appropriate. Avoid running obsolete software with access to sensitive data unless you understand its security limitations.
Fix 6: Determine whether another dependency is missing
Windows loader messages can be misleading. “The specified module could not be found” can mean that pfpick.dll is absent, but it can also mean that Windows found pfpick.dll and could not load another DLL required by it.
The related Kodak files historically seen with this component include:
sprof32.dll
kpcp32.dll
kpsys32.dll
icccodes.dll
PCDLIB32.DLL
Their presence is not a guarantee that they are correct, and their absence is not by itself proof that they belong to your particular application. Use the application installer as the authority.
A dependency-inspection utility can help an experienced technician identify which module fails to load, but it should be used for diagnosis, not as a reason to download individual DLLs from an unknown source. If the result identifies a missing Kodak component, reinstall the parent application and its complete feature set.
Fix 7: Repair broader Windows component corruption
Windows repair commands will not normally recreate a third-party Kodak application DLL. They are appropriate when the pfpick.dll error appears alongside damaged Windows features, failed updates, crashes, or other system-file errors.
Microsoft recommends running DISM before System File Checker.
Run DISM
- Open Start.
- Type Command Prompt.
- Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Approve the User Account Control prompt.
- Enter:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Press Enter.
- Wait for the operation to finish.
Run SFC
In the same elevated Command Prompt, enter:
sfc /scannow
Press Enter and let the scan reach 100 percent. Restart Windows when it completes, then test the application.

If you want help identifying which Windows components are damaged rather than manually interpreting repeated DISM and SFC output, Outbyte PC Repair can show a scan of reported problems; its full repair capability is provided by the full version, and it is not a substitute for reinstalling the Kodak application.
Fix 8: Check drivers only when the symptoms point to them
A graphics or imaging driver can cause color-management software to behave badly, but a driver update is not the primary fix for a missing pfpick.dll. Do not replace this application DLL with a graphics-driver file.

- A failure that began immediately after a graphics-driver change
- A newly disconnected scanner or imaging device
Check Device Manager
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters and any relevant imaging-device category.
- Look for a yellow warning icon.
- Right-click the affected device.
- Select Properties.
- Read the status on the General tab.
- Open the Driver tab to review the installed driver and available rollback options.
If the problem began after a driver update, select Roll Back Driver if Windows makes that option available. Otherwise, obtain the driver from the device manufacturer and install the package intended for your Windows architecture.
If you are manually hunting through hardware pages and trying to determine which of several drivers is stale, Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for driver issues; installation or repair is handled by the full version, and updating a driver will not replace the Kodak DLL when the parent application is the real problem.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Fix 9: Use System Restore after a recent system change
System Restore is useful when the error began immediately after an installation, update, driver change, or cleanup operation and a suitable restore point exists.
- Press
Win+R. - Enter:
rstrui.exe
- Press Enter.
- Select Next.
- Choose a restore point dated before the error began.
- Select Scan for affected programs if available.
- Review the changes.
- Select Next, then Finish.
- Allow Windows to restart.
System Restore rolls back system files, registry settings, and installed programs while normally leaving personal files untouched. It may remove a recently installed application, so reinstall that application afterward if necessary.
If no restore point exists, or if restoring does not help, reinstall the affected program from its trusted installer.
Why regsvr32 is usually the wrong fix
Do not routinely run:
regsvr32 pfpick.dll
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that provide a registration entry point such as DllRegisterServer. There is no reliable indication that this legacy profile-picker component requires COM registration.
Running the command against an ordinary application DLL can produce errors such as a missing entry point or a module-load failure. That does not mean Windows needs a different copy. It usually means registration is not the correct repair method.
Use regsvr32 only when the application’s own documentation explicitly requires registration and identifies the correct DLL and command. Otherwise, repair the application installation.

Why random DLL downloads are a poor fix
Downloading a loose pfpick.dll from a search result is risky because:
- The file may contain malware.
- The file may belong to a different release.
- The architecture may not match the application.
- The file may be damaged or modified.
- Companion Kodak DLLs may still be missing.
- The application may need registry data or other installed resources.
- Copying it to a Windows directory can affect unrelated programs.
The safe sources are the original application installer, trusted installation media, a publisher-provided package, or an organization’s verified software archive. Microsoft’s own repair tools are appropriate for Windows components, but Microsoft does not normally provide this third-party Kodak DLL through Windows Update.

When reinstalling does not help
Record the following before seeking application-specific support:
- The exact program name
- The executable path
- The complete error text
- Your Windows edition and architecture
- The application’s release, if shown
- Whether the program was copied or properly installed
- Whether antivirus quarantined a file
- The location of every
pfpick.dllfound on the computer - Any related missing DLL named after reinstalling
If the application still fails after a complete reinstall, the likely issue is an unavailable dependency, an incompatible legacy program, or a damaged installer. Do not keep replacing files one at a time. Move the application to a compatible older environment, obtain a verified installation package, or replace the obsolete software.

Is pfpick.dll a Windows file?
No. It is identified as the ICC Profile Picker component of Kodak Digital Science Profile Picker, developed by Eastman Kodak Company.
Do I need Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable?
Not as the primary fix. pfpick.dll is identified as a Kodak application component, not a Visual C++ runtime file. Install a Visual C++ package only when the application documentation or a separate error specifically identifies it.
Should I put pfpick.dll in System32?
No. The correct location is normally the application’s own directory or the directory selected by its installer. Global copying can create mismatched dependencies.
Can 64-bit Windows run the application?
It may be able to run the 32-bit legacy application, but compatibility is not guaranteed. The application needs its matching 32-bit Kodak files and dependencies.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Why does the error say another module is missing?
Windows may name pfpick.dll even when a dependency required by that DLL is absent. Reinstall the complete parent application rather than replacing only the named file.
Is this related to a modern game?
There is no established evidence that pfpick.dll belongs to a current mainstream game. If a game genuinely requests it, identify that game’s executable and use its official repair or verification process.
Will SFC restore pfpick.dll?
Normally no. SFC repairs protected Windows system files. It can help when Windows itself is damaged, but the parent application must supply this third-party Kodak component.
What is the definitive fix?
Identify the requesting program and repair or reinstall that program from trusted original media. Install the complete Kodak-related feature set, keep its 32-bit dependencies together, and avoid downloading a standalone DLL.
