“The program can’t start because pixprimitive.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem.”
pixprimitive.dll is associated with Grass Valley EDIUS and GV LicenseManager, not Windows itself. The safest repair is to restore the matching EDIUS installation rather than download a loose DLL or copy it into System32.

Older installations have also used:

The folder alone does not prove whether the file is 32-bit or 64-bit. The relevant architecture is that of the failing EDIUS executable, not simply whether Windows is 64-bit.
Public file records show samples associated with older EDIUS releases, including EDIUS 7 and EDIUS 8, but they do not establish a universal version or a complete Grass Valley release matrix. Do not replace a file from one EDIUS generation with a file from another.
Fix 1: Repair or reinstall EDIUS first
This is the primary fix because pixprimitive.dll belongs to the EDIUS/GV LicenseManager installation.
- Save EDIUS projects and back up settings, presets, serial numbers, and activation information.
- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Search for EDIUS and GV LicenseManager.
- Select the EDIUS entry and choose Advanced options if available.
- Choose Repair, then restart Windows and test EDIUS.
- If Repair is unavailable or ineffective, return to Installed apps, select the affected Grass Valley components, and choose Uninstall.
- Restart Windows.
- Obtain the installer from Grass Valley Customer Support or the EDIUS account associated with the license. Use the same edition, language, and compatible build rather than mixing files from separate releases.
- Install EDIUS and GV LicenseManager, then restart again.
- Open Start > Grass Valley > GV LicenseManager and complete license activation or repair if requested.
A successful repair places the DLL in the product’s own Grass Valley directory and allows EDIUS and its helper process to start normally. If reinstalling does not restore it, check Windows Security before trying further manual changes.

Do not place the file in C:WindowsSystem32 or C:WindowsSysWOW64. Those directories are not the normal home of this third-party EDIUS component.

Fix 2: Check Windows Security quarantine
Antivirus cleanup can remove a genuine application file, but a signature or familiar filename alone does not prove that every copy is safe.
- Open Start and search for Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Choose Protection history.
- Look for an event involving
pixprimitive.dll, EDIUS, or GV LicenseManager. - Expand the event and review the detected path.
- If the path is the expected Grass Valley installation directory, verify that the file came from your official EDIUS installation.
- Use Restore only when that provenance is trustworthy.
- If Windows Security offers Allow on device, use it only for a confirmed false positive.
- Rerun the official EDIUS installer afterward so the product can restore a clean, matching copy.
If the detection points to a download folder, temporary directory, or unknown program, do not restore it. Remove the file and reinstall EDIUS from Grass Valley instead.
Fix 3: Verify the file path, publisher, and architecture
If the DLL exists but EDIUS still fails, confirm that it is in the directory expected by the application.
- Open File Explorer.
- Select This PC.
- Search for
PixPrimitive.dll. - Right-click each result and choose Open file location.
- Prefer a result under a Grass Valley EDIUS or GV LicenseManager directory.
- Right-click the file, choose Properties, and inspect Details.
- Open the Digital Signatures tab if present.
- Select the signature, choose Details, and confirm that Windows reports the signature as valid.
A file in an unrelated folder may be an orphaned copy and will not necessarily satisfy EDIUS. A valid file in the correct folder can still fail if a dependency is missing or if it belongs to a different architecture.
If the message says “The specified module could not be found” while pixprimitive.dll is visible, Windows may be unable to load a dependency of that DLL. That wording does not always mean the named file itself is absent.

Fix 4: Repair the named Visual C++ dependency
Do not assume pixprimitive.dll is a Visual C++ runtime file. It is associated with Grass Valley software. Visual C++ repair is relevant only when the error separately names a Microsoft runtime such as VCRUNTIME140.dll or MSVCP140.dll.
- Open Microsoft’s Latest supported Visual C++ Redistributable downloads page.
- Download the package architecture required by the failing application.
- For a 64-bit EDIUS executable, use the x64 package.
- For a 32-bit EDIUS executable running on 64-bit Windows, install the x86 package.
- Run the installer.
- Choose Repair if offered. Otherwise complete the installation.
- Restart Windows and test EDIUS.
Multiple Visual C++ Redistributables can coexist. Installing one newer package does not automatically replace every older side-by-side runtime. If the application still identifies a particular missing runtime, repair the architecture and package named by that error.

Use these commands mainly when other Windows applications also show corruption or startup errors. SFC repairs protected Windows files; it does not normally restore a third-party EDIUS DLL.
- Open Start.
- Search for Command Prompt.
- Right-click it and select Run as administrator.
- Run:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for it to complete.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
Microsoft recommends DISM before SFC. If both commands complete without finding corruption and EDIUS still reports pixprimitive.dll, return to the EDIUS repair path rather than copying files into Windows directories.
Repeating SFC and DISM without knowing what changed can make diagnosis difficult. Outbyte PC Repair can scan for the specific problems involved, while its full version performs the repair; it is optional, and reinstalling EDIUS remains the definitive fix for this application-owned DLL.
Fix 6: Update, reinstall, or roll back drivers
A display, capture, or hardware-driver change can affect EDIUS indirectly, although it is not the leading explanation for a missing application DLL.

- Right-click Start and choose Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters, Sound, video and game controllers, and any capture-device category.
- Right-click the device involved in the EDIUS failure.
- Choose Update driver > Search automatically for drivers.
- If the problem began immediately after an update, open Properties > Driver.
- Choose Roll Back Driver when available.
- Restart Windows and test EDIUS.
You can also install pending updates through Settings > Windows Update > Check for updates.
Manually finding the correct driver versions across display and capture hardware can be time-consuming. Outbyte Driver Updater can scan and identify outdated drivers, while driver installation is handled by its full version; it is optional and does not replace repairing the EDIUS installation.
Fix 7: Use System Restore after a recent change
If the error began immediately after an EDIUS update, driver installation, cleanup, or Windows change, System Restore may return the system to an earlier working state.
- Press Win + R.
- Enter:
rstrui.exe
- Press Enter.
- Choose a restore point dated before the problem began.
- Select Scan for affected programs if available.
- Confirm the restore and restart Windows.
System Restore normally preserves personal files, but it can remove programs, drivers, and settings installed after the selected restore point. Back up important work first.
Do not use regsvr32 for this file
regsvr32 is for DLLs designed to register themselves, normally by exposing DllRegisterServer. There is no Grass Valley instruction requiring PixPrimitive.dll to be registered.
Do not routinely run:
regsvr32 pixprimitive.dll
It will not repair a missing dependency, wrong architecture, damaged installation, or quarantined file. Use it only when the software vendor specifically documents registration for that exact DLL.

Do not download a replacement DLL
Random DLL download sites sites can provide malware, an incorrect build, or the wrong architecture. Even a clean-looking replacement may not match the EDIUS edition or its dependencies, and copying it into System32 often leaves the original installation problem unresolved.
Use the matching Grass Valley installer. Manual copying is reasonable only when restoring a verified, signed file from your own identical EDIUS installer or backup to the exact Grass Valley product directory.
