Planet Coaster 2 expands Frontier Developments’ theme-park builder with water parks, pools and flumes alongside its roller-coaster construction and park management. Its official listings describe solo building, guest and budget systems, and online sharing and collaboration. Without firsthand playtesting, this review evaluates what those features and the published platform details establish—not how well the controls, performance or online services work in practice.

Is Planet Coaster 2 worth playing now?

Planet Coaster 2 is a construction and management simulation for players who want to design a theme park, then respond to the needs and finances of running one. Frontier Developments developed and published it; the listed release date for PC and PS5 was November 6, 2024. The official Xbox store also lists an Xbox Series S|X version.

The clearest change to the series’ premise is the addition of water parks. The official listings describe building pools and water slides as well as roller coasters, then supporting guests with services that include shade, sunscreen and lifeguards. Those systems broaden the kinds of parks players can plan, though an official feature list alone does not establish how satisfying or demanding they are to manage.

The advertised management tools include budgets, heat maps and guest-welfare systems. Steam says heat maps show park needs at a glance, with details available by selecting individual guests and their groups. That points to a game built around reading feedback and adjusting a design, rather than construction alone. Whether its interface makes those systems clear is something the published specifications cannot answer.

What can you build and manage?

Coasters, slides and park scenery

Steam describes piece-by-piece construction for roller coasters and water slides, alongside pools and themed scenery. It also advertises event sequencing, giving builders tools to shape how attractions and park events fit together. The combination offers two complementary design problems: creating rides and attractions, and fitting them into a park with the facilities visitors need.

Guest needs and budgets

The management side includes budgets, guest feedback and welfare. Heat maps are presented as a way to spot broader park needs; inspecting a guest is intended to reveal more detail about that visitor and their immediate group. The listings also call out practical water-park support such as shade, sunscreen and lifeguards. These are advertised mechanics, not independent evidence of their depth, balance or ease of use.

Does Planet Coaster 2 support cross-platform building?

Steam advertises shared building and content across platforms through several online features. In Sandbox Mode, players can take turns building in a park using a shared cross-platform save. Franchise Mode is described as supporting collaboration, while the Frontier Workshop is promoted for sharing creations across platforms. Steam also says players can visit other players’ parks.

These descriptions establish what the storefront advertises, not whether every feature is working reliably at a given time. Online access and account requirements vary by platform; check the listing for the version you plan to use. The available information does not confirm the current status of online services or how well collaboration and sharing perform in practice.

What PC specs do you need?

Frontier’s recommended requirements are guidance from the publisher, not a benchmark or guarantee for a particular PC. Compare your hardware with both tiers before buying, and allow for the stated storage requirement. An SSD is recommended at minimum and required for the recommended configuration.

Component Minimum (Steam) Recommended (Frontier Support)
Operating system 64-bit Windows 10 (22H2) 64-bit Windows 10 or 11
Processor Intel Core i5-6600K or AMD Ryzen 5 2600 Intel Core i7-10700K or AMD Ryzen 7 5800
Memory 16 GB RAM 16 GB RAM
Graphics NVIDIA GTX 1060 6 GB, AMD RX 5600 XT 6 GB or Intel Arc A750 8 GB NVIDIA RTX 2070 Super 8 GB, AMD RX 6700 XT 12 GB or Intel Arc A770 16 GB
DirectX Version 12 Version 12
Storage 25 GB free; SSD recommended 25 GB; SSD required

If the PC version crashes or performs poorly, Frontier’s support guidance suggests checking that the machine meets the requirements, verifying the game files, and updating or reinstalling graphics drivers. These are troubleshooting steps, not a promise that any one will resolve a specific issue. The published requirements do not establish performance at a particular park size, resolution or graphics setting.

Which platforms and editions are listed?

The official listings identify PC, PS5 and Xbox Series S|X versions. PlayStation’s US store lists a base game and a Deluxe Edition that includes the Vintage Funfair Ride Pack. It also lists paid add-ons including the Silver Screen, Sorcery, Parades, Toybox, Vintage Funfair Ride and Thrill-Seekers packs, plus the Bonus Ride Collection. Steam lists downloadable packs and a digital soundtrack.

Prices, discounts and add-on availability can vary by region and change over time, so check the relevant storefront for current details. The cited listings establish digital storefront availability; they do not establish whether a physical PS5 edition is available or whether a retailer currently has stock. Confirm the platform, edition and physical or digital format before purchasing from a retailer.

What do Steam players think?

On October 4, 2026, Steam displayed 74% positive from 8,691 English-language reviews overall and 86% positive from 256 recent reviews. These are user-review snapshots from Steam, not critic scores or a fixed measure of quality; both percentages and review counts can change.

That snapshot offers one view of player reception, but it cannot substitute for an assessment of controls, interface, stability, large-park performance, scenario quality or online features. No firsthand testing is reflected here, so those aspects remain unverified.
