The original PS4, PS4 Slim and PS4 Pro are the three main PlayStation 4 families. The CUH code on the console label identifies the exact generation: CUH-1000/1100/1200 is the launch design, CUH-2000/2100/2200 is Slim, and CUH-7000/7100/7200 is Pro. Slim is the smallest and most efficient standard PS4; Pro is the most capable choice for supported games on a 4K television.
PS4 model list at a glance
| Family | CUH code families | Typical storage | Dimensions (W × H × D) | Mass | Graphics and video |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Original PS4 | CUH-1000, CUH-1100, CUH-1200 | 500GB at launch | 275 × 53 × 305 mm | Approximately 2.8 kg | 1.84 TFLOPS GPU; standard PS4 output |
| PS4 Slim | CUH-2000, CUH-2100, CUH-2200 | 500GB or 1TB | 265 × 39 × 288 mm | Approximately 2.0–2.1 kg, depending on revision | Standard PS4 performance; HDR output over HDMI |
| PS4 Pro | CUH-7000, CUH-7100, CUH-7200 | 1TB standard | 295 × 55 × 327 mm | Not stated in the supplied specifications | Substantially more powerful GPU; 4K-TV features and 4K streaming |
Dimensions and storage can vary by regional revision or bundle. A model family is more useful than a color or game bundle when comparing hardware.
How to identify which PS4 you have
- Turn the console over or inspect its rear and underside label. Look for a code beginning with CUH-.
- Match the first four digits to the family: 1000/1100/1200 means original PS4, 2000/2100/2200 means Slim, and 7000/7100/7200 means Pro.
- Read the suffix after the digits. In Sony’s CUH-2116 documentation, for example, CUH-2116A is the 500GB version and CUH-2116B is the 1TB version.
- Confirm storage in Settings > Storage. The usable capacity is lower than the number printed on the box because system software occupies space.
The CUH number is the reliable identifier; a seller’s description such as “fat,” “Slim” or “4K PS4” is not enough on its own.
Original PS4: CUH-1000, CUH-1100 and CUH-1200
The launch PlayStation 4 (CUH-1000A series) arrived in North America on November 15, 2013. Sony specified a 500GB hard drive, 8GB of GDDR5 memory and a 1.84-teraflop AMD Radeon-based GPU. Its chassis is approximately 275 × 53 × 305 mm and weighs about 2.8 kg.

When the original model makes sense
- You find a well-documented unit at a meaningfully lower used price.
- You need a particular CUH-1000, CUH-1100 or CUH-1200 revision for a repair, collection or existing setup.
- The listing clearly demonstrates a working HDMI output, disc drive and wireless connection.
It is the oldest family, so condition, fan wear, hard-drive health and missing accessories matter more than the family name alone.
PS4 Slim: CUH-2000, CUH-2100 and CUH-2200
Slim is the compact redesign for conventional PS4 play. Sony lists 500GB and 1TB configurations, approximately 265 × 39 × 288 mm dimensions and a mass of about 2.1 kg; the CUH-2116 regional manual lists approximately 2.0 kg for that revision. The CUH-2000 specification gives a 165W maximum rated power and confirms HDR output over HDMI.

- Blu-ray technology, delivers exceptional video quality.
- Redefine your gaming expectations and immerse yourself in moments so intense your intuition takes over.
Why choose Slim
- It occupies less space than either the original PS4 or Pro.
- Its lower maximum power rating suits buyers prioritizing a smaller, simpler standard PS4.
- It supports HDR output, but it does not provide the Pro family’s higher-performance rendering modes.
Expect standard PS4-class performance rather than automatic 4K game rendering. Bundle contents and storage depend on the exact regional suffix.
PS4 Pro: CUH-7000, CUH-7100 and CUH-7200
Sony describes PS4 Pro as “significantly more powerful than the standard PS4 model.” Pro models have 1TB standard storage, faster 802.11ac Wi‑Fi, a third USB 3.1 Gen 1 port, 4K-TV features and 4K video-streaming support. The chassis measures approximately 295 × 55 × 327 mm, making Pro larger than Slim and the original PS4.

What Pro improves
- Supported games can offer higher resolution, steadier performance, improved image quality or enhanced graphics settings.
- It provides higher capture and streaming ceilings than the standard models.
- It is the PS4 family member designed for owners who want to make practical use of a 4K television.
What Pro does not do
PS4 Pro does not play Ultra HD 4K Blu-ray discs. Its optical drive follows the same Blu-ray specifications as the standard PS4, so an owner seeking UHD Blu-ray playback needs a separate compatible player. Pro enhancements also depend on individual game support; every PS4 title does not automatically receive a visual upgrade.
4K, HDR and cable requirements
A 4K television is most useful with PS4 Pro, but the result depends on the game, display settings and the title’s Pro support. For maximum-quality 4K output, Sony specifies a 4K TV and a Premium High Speed HDMI cable. Sony says the cable supplied with Pro can be used; a longer replacement should meet the same Premium High Speed specification.

- All the greatest, games, TV, music and more
All Slim units in the cited CUH-2000 specification support HDR output over HDMI. HDR availability still depends on the television, console settings and game or video content.

Pro adds a third USB 3.1 Gen 1 port and 802.11ac Wi‑Fi. The supplied specifications do not establish a universal port or wireless specification for every original and Slim revision, so confirm the exact CUH model when a particular connection standard matters.

All three families use the PS4 software ecosystem and DualShock 4 controller system. A used console may be sold without a controller, with a non-original pad or with a controller whose battery is worn; treat the included accessories as listing-specific rather than guaranteed by the family.
Compatibility between standard PS4 and Pro
Sony states that PS4 Pro shares the same digital ecosystem as standard PS4. PS4 games and saved data are compatible across the systems, subject to the normal account, backup and storage requirements. Pro benefits are optional enhancements implemented by supported games, not a separate game library.
Which PS4 should you buy?
Choose original PS4 when price or a specific revision comes first
Select a CUH-1000, CUH-1100 or CUH-1200 if its condition is documented and the saving is substantial. Inspect the hard drive, fan behavior, disc mechanism and HDMI output before relying on an older unit.
Choose Slim for the smallest standard PS4
CUH-2000, CUH-2100 or CUH-2200 is the sensible choice when compact size, lower rated power and ordinary 1080p-class PS4 play matter more than enhanced Pro modes. Verify whether the listing contains 500GB or 1TB storage.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsChoose Pro for a 4K setup or the strongest PS4 graphics
CUH-7000, CUH-7100 or CUH-7200 is the best fit for a 4K television, supported-game enhancements and higher capture or streaming limits. Remember that Pro is not a UHD Blu-ray player and that game-by-game support determines the visible benefit.
Quick Recap
Used-console inspection checklist
- Ask for a photo of the full CUH- code, not just the product name.
- Confirm the storage size and whether the hard drive has been replaced.
- Test a game disc and verify that the drive reads, installs and ejects normally.
- Test HDMI output on a television, including the resolution and HDR mode you intend to use.
- Confirm Wi‑Fi or wired networking works and that the console can sign in to PlayStation Network.
- Check that a genuine DualShock 4, power cable and HDMI cable are included if you need them.
- Ask about unusual fan noise, overheating, shutdowns, liquid damage and repair history; noise and service condition vary by individual unit and cannot be inferred from the CUH family alone.
