When PlayStation Plus was the better option
Sony’s August catalog announcement added Mortal Kombat 1, Marvel’s Spider-Man, Sword of the Sea, and Earth Defense Force 6 to the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog. Premium members also received Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3: Nemesis. Sony’s August announcement.
Catalog access is a subscription benefit, not ownership. It normally depends on keeping the qualifying tier and on the title remaining in the catalog; a purchased game stays tied to the account instead. Compare the sale price with your existing subscription before buying a title already included in the catalog, but do not add a higher tier solely for one game without considering the rest of the service.

What could be verified about consoles
No dated August 13, 2025 price was established for a PS5 Disc Edition, PS5 Digital Edition, PS5 Slim, PS5 Pro, bundle, refurbished system, or retailer financing offer. Console pricing was retailer-specific and would require an archived listing from stores such as PlayStation Direct, Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart, Target, or GameStop. The PlayStation Store game sale should not be presented as a hardware sale.

- Compare the purchase with PlayStation Plus catalog access and with the physical price if you own a disc-drive PS5.
- Prioritize deals whose stated cutoff was August 13, because individual offers could end before Sony’s 11:59 p.m. deadline.
- Remember that digital purchases cannot be resold or lent, and large downloads may require additional storage.
