Yes—PlayStation Portal can stream select digital PS5 games you own without connecting to your PS5 through Remote Play. Sony launched the feature on November 5, 2025. It requires an adult account, PlayStation Plus Premium, a supported country, compatible game entitlement and reliable broadband Wi-Fi. It does not stream every PS5 game, and disc ownership does not qualify.
What changed on PlayStation Portal?
Portal originally worked primarily as a Remote Play screen for a paired PS5. Sony later added cloud streaming for selected PlayStation Plus titles. The November 5, 2025 update added a third route: eligible digital PS5 purchases in your own PlayStation Store library can now run on Sony’s servers.
Cloud Streaming, Remote Play and Search appear as separate areas on Portal. Cloud Streaming means your PS5 can be switched off or used by another account; Remote Play still runs the game on your own console. Sony announced thousands of supported PS5 games at launch, including Astro Bot, Borderlands 4, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Fortnite, Ghost of Yōtei, Grand Theft Auto V and Resident Evil 4. Those examples and the count are launch-era claims, not a permanent catalogue. Sony’s announcement gives the launch details.

- A PlayStation Portal updated to the latest available system software. Sony’s support page currently lists version 7.0.2; check the page for the version available when you set up your device.
- An adult PlayStation account. Child accounts cannot use Portal cloud streaming.
- An active PlayStation Plus Premium subscription. Essential and Extra do not provide this Portal benefit.
- A PlayStation account associated with a supported country or territory.
- An eligible digital PS5 game purchased through PlayStation Store, or a currently available supported title from the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog or Classics Catalog.
- Broadband Wi-Fi with enough speed and low enough latency for interactive streaming.
You cannot buy or manage a PlayStation Plus subscription on Portal. Use a PS5, the PlayStation App or the PlayStation website instead. Premium is recurring unless you cancel it; Sony’s plan comparison identifies Cloud Streaming as a Premium feature.

Which countries support Portal cloud streaming?
Sony lists the United States, Canada, Japan, United Kingdom, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Republic of Cyprus, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland. You must be located in a supported territory and use an account associated with a supported region. Availability can change, so check Sony’s current country list before subscribing or buying hardware.
How to stream an owned game
- Install the latest Portal system software and sign in with your adult PlayStation account.
- Confirm that PlayStation Plus Premium is active.
- Connect Portal to a dependable broadband Wi-Fi network.
- From the home screen, open Cloud Streaming.
- Choose Your Library and select a game marked as eligible, then launch it.
The same Cloud Streaming area also contains Cloud Streaming with PlayStation Plus Premium and Streaming Games in PlayStation Plus. L1 and R1 switch between Portal’s Remote Play, Cloud Streaming and Search areas. Menu wording can vary slightly with system software updates; Sony’s support instructions describe the current flow.

How to check whether a game qualifies
Use Sony’s Cloud Streaming Game Finder rather than relying on a static list. A game appearing in Your Library does not make it automatically streamable. Check the exact PS5 version and your country.

- Digital purchases and disc purchases are different: the Your Library benefit is for eligible digital PS5 games bought through PlayStation Store.
- A title can be added, removed or restricted by region.
- PlayStation Plus catalogue games follow catalogue availability and membership rules, separate from a purchased digital entitlement.
Sony describes the benefit as a “select” range of games, not the complete PlayStation Store catalogue.

What you cannot stream from Your Library
- Every PS5 game you own.
- Games represented only by a physical PS5 disc. Inserting a disc into a console does not create a cloud entitlement.
- Titles unavailable in your region or without an eligible PS5 streaming version.
- Games removed or temporarily changed in Sony’s supported streaming selection.
Save behaviour, DLC and add-ons can vary by title and streaming category. Sony specifically says DLC and add-ons are not supported when streaming a title from the PlayStation Plus catalogue; do not generalise that statement to every purchased game in Your Library. Peripheral support and individual modes can also differ from local installation.

Cloud Streaming is an additional route, not a replacement for Remote Play. Remote Play remains the practical answer for an installed game that is not cloud-eligible, a disc game, or a player who does not want Premium.

Internet requirements and picture quality
Sony lists these Portal minimums:

These are thresholds, not performance guarantees. Latency, packet loss, Wi-Fi congestion, router quality and distance from Sony’s servers can matter as much as measured speed. Sony’s broader cloud page recommends 13 Mbps for 720p, 23 Mbps for 1080p, 38 Mbps for 1440p and 52 Mbps for 2160p/4K on supported devices. Portal’s documented maximum is 1080p, so the 1440p and 4K figures are not Portal targets. See Sony’s cloud-streaming guidance.
Fixing common problems
The Cloud Streaming tab is missing
Check Premium status, account age, country support and Portal software. A child account or unsupported region may show only the Remote Play home screen. If all requirements are correct, restart Portal and check for a temporary service or account issue. Sony’s Portal support page documents the interface and restrictions.

A purchased game does not appear
Search the title in Sony’s Game Finder. Confirm that you own the digital PS5 version, not only a PS4 version or disc, and that the title is supported in your region. Repeatedly restarting Portal will not make an ineligible game appear.
The stream is blurry or laggy
- Move Portal closer to the router.
- Use a less congested Wi-Fi network where possible.
- Pause other high-bandwidth activity.
- Test upload as well as download performance.
- Restart the router and Portal.
- Install the latest Portal software.
- Try another network to determine whether the problem is local or service-side.
Actual results vary by game and network environment, even when a connection exceeds Sony’s minimums.
Is Portal cloud streaming worth it?
It is a strong fit for someone who already owns mostly digital PS5 games, pays for Premium, finds those games in Sony’s Game Finder and has stable low-latency Wi-Fi. It is especially useful when the PS5 is switched off, being used by someone else or located elsewhere.

It is a weak fit for a disc-heavy library, an unsupported country, Essential or Extra subscribers, offline play, or players who are highly sensitive to compression and input delay. Local installation remains preferable for the lowest latency, dependable play during poor internet, complete local features and independence from eligibility changes. A PS5 remains the better purchase for disc support and offline gaming; Remote Play may solve the same portability problem without adding Premium.
Bottom line
Portal now does more than mirror a PS5: with Premium, it can run select digital PS5 games from Sony’s servers while your console is off or occupied. Check the exact title, region and account before relying on it. If your game is unsupported, physical, or needed offline, use Remote Play or a local PS5 installation instead.
