Reports published in early October 2026 trace the claim to a pseudonymous ResetEra user; the franchises named include Sly Cooper, Killzone and Ape Escape.
What the report claims
Gaming outlets including IG News, AllKeyShop and Tech4Gamers describe a claim originating with a ResetEra user who reportedly said Sony is open to licensing agreements and considering pitches for games based on its franchises. Sony has not publicly announced such a program, and no on-record statement from the company or a named executive has been reported.
The user is described under different names in coverage: some outlets identify the account as “thisiserfan,” while one calls it “Angie.” The discrepancy is unresolved. The user reportedly disclosed God of War: Sons of Sparta before its announcement, but that earlier track record does not independently verify this new claim.
Which PlayStation franchises are mentioned?
The names attached to the rumor vary across reports, and being mentioned is not evidence that a project has been approved or begun.

| Franchise | What has been reported | Reported status |
|---|---|---|
| Sly Cooper | Named among the franchises Sony could consider for outside pitches. | Rumor of openness; no specific game confirmed. |
| Killzone | Named among the franchises under discussion. A separate report about a possible external-team project is discussed below. | Rumor of openness; separate early-production claim is unconfirmed. |
| Ape Escape | Named among the franchises Sony could consider for outside pitches. | Rumor of openness; no specific game confirmed. |
| Resistance and inFAMOUS | Also cited as possible candidates in coverage of the reported initiative. | Rumor only; no specific game confirmed. |
| MotorStorm | Another outlet connects it to reports of external development teams. | Reported connection only; no confirmed project or production status. |
One account of the rumor says the source named franchises they knew about, not a complete slate of games in production. It would therefore be premature to read the list as a set of green-lit projects.
How the reported arrangement might work
According to the reports, Sony would fund and publish any games through PlayStation Studios while outside developers handled production. The PlayStation studio associated with a franchise would reportedly supervise its project. The proposed route is described as a way to explore pitches while Sony’s internal studios focus on their existing projects.

The separate Killzone report
In September 2026, MP1st reportedly said Guerrilla Games was working with an external studio on a new Killzone project. That report characterized the project as being in very early production and possibly a remaster or remake, with People Can Fly named as the likely outside developer. This is a separate, second-hand report—not confirmation of Sony’s broader openness to outside pitches, nor confirmation from Sony or the studios involved.

When could any games arrive?
One report says games from the rumored initiative are not expected until around the launch window of PlayStation’s next-generation console. That is an estimate attached to an unconfirmed program, not an announced release schedule. Sony has not confirmed that the initiative exists, named a console launch date, or announced release dates for any of these franchise projects.

- Reported: Sony may be willing to consider outside pitches for games based on some of its franchises.
- Not confirmed: A formal licensing program, any individual game, an attached developer, or a release window.
- Separate rumor: Guerrilla and People Can Fly may be involved in an early-stage Killzone remake or remaster, according to a report relayed by other outlets.
Until Sony or the studios involved make an announcement, the safest reading is that outside development is being discussed in reports—not that a revival of Sly Cooper, Killzone, Ape Escape or another series is assured.
