State of Play recaps can mix first reveals with gameplay updates, release-date news and PlayStation Plus announcements. The official records available for this timeline verify selected State of Play events from 2025 and 2026, but do not establish every show or major announcement since 2019. The chronology below is therefore partial, not an exhaustive history.
What counts as a State of Play announcement?
A State of Play is a named PlayStation presentation whose recap may include several kinds of news. A game can be newly revealed, shown in a fresh gameplay update, given a release date, or featured in a service announcement. Those categories are not interchangeable: a new trailer does not necessarily mean a new game, and a date or release window stated in an old recap may no longer describe the game’s current status.
- First reveal: a new game, remake or other project is announced.
- Gameplay or update: PlayStation shows more of a previously announced game or shares new information about it.
- Date confirmation: a release date or window is provided in the recap; check current listings before relying on it.
- Service or hardware news: announcements may concern PlayStation Plus or PlayStation hardware rather than a game release.
PlayStation Showcase events are separate
PlayStation Showcase is a different event label, so its announcements should not be counted as State of Play episodes. Two recaps help explain the distinction, but they belong to their own event history.
2021 PlayStation Showcase
Sony’s 2021 recap covered Gran Turismo 7, God of War Ragnarök, Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic – Remake. These are PlayStation Showcase announcements, not State of Play announcements.

2023 PlayStation Showcase
Sony said the 2023 PlayStation Showcase featured over thirty titles, spanning PlayStation Studios and third-party games, PS VR2 titles and indie announcements. Its recap also mentioned Project Q and PlayStation’s first official wireless earbuds. The event remains distinct from State of Play regardless of the games or hardware it featured.
February 2025 State of Play announcements
PlayStation’s February 2025 recap grouped new game reveals with updates, release-date confirmations and PlayStation Plus catalog news. Its named examples included Borderlands 4, Days Gone Remastered, Digimon Story: Time Stranger, updates on Onimusha and Saros.

Days Gone Remastered details
In that recap, Sony said the remaster would improve graphical fidelity and add Tempest 3D Audio and DualSense features. Sony also listed new modes. These are details from the February 2025 announcement; the recap alone does not establish the game’s current availability or any later changes.
Other kinds of news
The presentation also illustrates why a State of Play recap is broader than a list of newly announced games: it included PlayStation Plus catalog information and updates to existing projects alongside reveals and date news.

Project Defiant
Sony also introduced Project Defiant, described in the recap as the first wireless fight stick designed by PlayStation. Project Defiant was a hardware announcement rather than a game reveal. The codename is the one used in the 2025 recap.

February 2026 State of Play announcements
Sony described the February 2026 show as just over an hour. The recap highlighted two major God of War announcements: a remake of the original trilogy and the surprise reveal and immediate release of God of War Sons of Sparta.
The immediate-release detail applies to Sons of Sparta as described in Sony’s February 2026 recap. It should not be generalized to the trilogy remake, which the same recap identified as a remake announcement.

June 2026 State of Play announcements
Sony said this presentation contained over 60 minutes of updates and announcements. It opened with a closer look at Marvel’s Wolverine and concluded with the reveal of God of War Laufey. The recap also included Until Dawn 2 and release-date news for other games.
That opening and closing order is useful context for the show, but neither a featured look nor a release-date announcement by itself establishes a game’s current release status.
September 2026 archive entry
The official tag archive has a combined “State of Play & State of Play Japan” recap dated September 3, 2026. Its description says the two shows covered over 30 games. This is an archive entry for two presentations, not one State of Play episode; the archive observation alone does not establish that it was the latest event by October 9, 2026.
How complete is this timeline?
This is a source-limited selection, not “every” State of Play since 2019. The official records summarized here verify representative 2025–2026 recaps and two separately named PlayStation Showcase events from 2021 and 2023. They do not substantiate a complete episode-by-episode chronology for 2019–2024 or every major announcement across the full period. A reader looking for the complete historical list should treat this as a partial timeline, not a definitive archive.
