Path of Exile 2 latest patch: 0.5.5 Hotfix 10
The official index dates 0.5.5 Hotfix 10 to September 8, 2026, and lists it above the main 0.5.5 Patch Notes, dated September 3. That makes Hotfix 10 the newest entry found in the index for this guide—not a claim that no newer update has appeared since. The index is the best place to check for the current latest patch.
For the substantial gameplay changes, read the official 0.5.5 patch notes. The hotfix and the main patch are separate entries, so the date of the main notes should not be mistaken for the date of the latest indexed update.

What changed in the PoE 2 0.5.5 patch notes?
Forbidden Rites adds Ritual encounters to a fresh event economy
Version 0.5.5 introduces the Forbidden Rites event league with a fresh economy. Ritual encounters appear in campaign areas and offer items and equipment useful for leveling. Around some bosses in Acts and Interludes, multiple Ritual Effigies can form a cluster: defeating a boss Ritual carries that boss into a later Ritual, creating progressively more dangerous waves. After completing the encounters, players can spend Tribute on Unique Items.
Sacred Blooms are another Ritual reward. They can add the Viridian Wildwood to an Atlas map cluster. The notes also state that characters from the Early Access launch and the Runes of Aldur league remain available, and that Runes of Aldur remains playable; starting the event does not mean those characters disappear.
Trial of Chaos lets players pause a run and collect room rewards
The major practical change is run continuity: players can leave the Trial of Chaos at any point and resume later from the same room. A reward chest now appears after each room, so a death is less likely to wipe out every reward from the run. The official notes explain the previous restriction: “A very frustrating point of the Trial of Chaos was that once you started a run, you had to complete that entire run before being able to leave, this meant if you needed to say trade, or stop playing the game for the night, you couldn’t do so.”
Completion rewards are now Currency and Soul Cores; corrupted items are no longer a completion-reward outcome. The update also changes difficulty modifiers, encounter pacing, room transitions, elevators, and Trialmaster interruptions. It is not simply a blanket difficulty reduction: some elite monsters become more dangerous while offering better rewards.

Expedition becomes core Atlas content
Farrow, Dannig, and Expedition become part of the core Atlas mechanic, including in Standard League. Outside Runes of Aldur, Expeditions are available from Act 4 onward. Tablets scale the encounter at these thresholds:
| Tablet threshold | Effect described in the notes |
|---|---|
| One Tablet | Adds an Expedition. |
| Two Tablets | Adds a Verisium Remnant and 35% increased Expedition density. |
| Three Tablets | Adds another Expedition. |
| Four Tablets | Adds another Verisium Remnant and another 35% increased density. |
The notes say increased density means more chests, monster flags, and Verisium Remnants at the site. The stated Tablet availability excludes Runes of Aldur, so do not assume this scaling applies there.

The official notes also organize changes into Endgame Changes, League Content Changes, User Interface Changes, Microtransaction Changes, and Bug Fixes. These sections cover Atlas and boss adjustments, edits to individual league mechanics, interface updates including Currency Exchange and map indicators, and fixes affecting encounters, items, skills, and controls. Consult the relevant section of the official notes for the exact change to a specific skill, item, or encounter; the categories span multiple systems and do not support a single overall balance verdict.

Where 0.5.5 sits in Path of Exile 2’s update history
For broader context, the publisher’s update-history page describes 0.5.0 Return of the Ancients as the Runes of Aldur league and the final Early Access update before 1.0, with a major endgame overhaul. That page’s list is labeled as current through May 29, 2026, so it is historical context rather than a live latest-patch tracker. See the publisher’s update history for that earlier version overview.
