Catch Cup: Little Edition uses a 500 CP limit, while Catch Cup: Great Edition uses a 1,500 CP limit in Niantic’s published rules. Both editions also restrict Pokémon by when they were caught, and individual events can add exclusions. As of October 8, 2026, the posted Twilight Trails schedule includes a future Mega Catch Cup: Great League Edition from November 24 to December 1—not a Little Edition cup.
How the two Catch Cup editions differ
| Edition | CP ceiling | Other eligibility rules |
|---|---|---|
| Catch Cup: Little Edition | 500 CP in Niantic’s Timeless Travels and World of Wonders examples. | Pokémon must be caught within the event’s specified season window; check the event rules for any further restrictions. Timeless Travels rules and World of Wonders rules. |
| Catch Cup: Great Edition / Great League Edition | 1,500 CP in the same published examples. | Pokémon must be caught within the event’s specified season window; check the event rules for any further restrictions. Timeless Travels rules and World of Wonders rules. |
Niantic has used both “Great Edition” and “Great League Edition” in official event naming. A Pokémon’s species, ownership, or CP alone does not establish that it is eligible: it must also meet the event’s catch-date and any other listed rules.

Which Pokémon are eligible?
Check each candidate against the rules for the specific Catch Cup you plan to enter:
- Confirm the CP limit. The published Little Edition examples set a 500 CP ceiling; Great Edition examples set a 1,500 CP ceiling.
- Check the catch date. The Pokémon must have been caught during the exact window named in that event’s announcement. The window changes by season.
- Read the additional restrictions. Some events exclude Pokémon beyond the CP and catch-date requirements. For example, Niantic’s current Twilight Trails Mega Catch Cup: Great League Edition announcement excludes Mythical Pokémon.
Rules can vary by event, so do not assume an exclusion from one Catch Cup applies to another. Niantic’s Interlude Season Catch Cup rules are one historical example of an event announcement specifying a Mythical Pokémon exclusion.

What is scheduled for Twilight Trails?
As of October 8, 2026, Niantic lists the Mega Catch Cup: Great League Edition for November 24–December 1, 2026. Its rule block sets a 1,500 CP limit, admits only Pokémon caught during the Twilight Trails Season, and excludes Mythical Pokémon. The announcement gives the catch window as September 8, 2026, at 1 p.m. through December 1, 2026, at 1 p.m. PST. This is a future event, and the currently posted Twilight Trails schedule does not list a Catch Cup: Little Edition.
Niantic’s schedule gives league transitions as 1 p.m. PDT (GMT −7); the event announcement states the catch-window boundaries in PST. Check the in-game schedule for the time shown for your location, and consult the Twilight Trails season schedule and event rules for updates.

How to prepare without investing in an ineligible Pokémon
- Start with the event rules. Note the start and end of the catch window, the stated time zone, the CP ceiling, and every exclusion.
- Filter by catch date first. Only then consider spending Stardust or Candy on powering up or unlocking a second Charged Attack. The format’s date restriction means a strong Pokémon caught outside the window will not qualify.
- Keep the edition’s CP pool in mind. A team intended for the 1,500 CP Great format is not automatically suitable for the 500 CP Little format.
- Recheck close to the event. Use the event announcement and in-game battle screen, since schedules and rules are season-specific.
Niantic’s cited announcements establish eligibility rules, not current team rankings, usage rates, or win rates. They are not enough to identify a universally best Catch Cup team.
