Catch a Shiny Mareanie, then evolve it with 50 Mareanie Candy to get Shiny Toxapex. Mareanie’s availability changes, so check current Pokémon GO event announcements and encounter listings before choosing where to look.
Can Mareanie be shiny in Pokémon GO?
Yes. Shiny Mareanie debuted during the Ultra Space Wonders event, held May 23–28, 2024. That event featured Mareanie in the wild and as a Field Research reward, but those were event-specific opportunities, not a guarantee that either route is available now. Leek Duck’s Ultra Space Wonders archive documents the event and its encounters.
Niantic says shiny Pokémon can be encountered in the wild, in raids, through Research Breakthroughs and Field Research rewards, and from other rewards. Those are general categories, not confirmation that Mareanie is currently available through each one. Where to look for Mareanie now
The latest documented Mareanie event appearance in the cited official announcements was the Water Festival, August 18–24, 2026. Mareanie was listed among that event’s wild encounters with a shiny indicator; the event has ended. Pokémon GO: Ultra Unlock: Water Festival

The World Space Week event runs October 4–10, 2026, and its announcement does not list Mareanie among featured encounters. That does not establish that Mareanie is unavailable from ordinary spawns or another route: the announcement only describes its featured event content. Check the official Pokémon GO news and event announcements and the in-game encounter listings for current availability.
When Mareanie is listed, check the encounter screen for the shiny marker above its CP. Niantic identifies that icon as the in-game indicator of a Shiny Pokémon. Keep checking eligible encounters; the official sources cited here do not publish a Mareanie-specific shiny rate or guarantee a shiny encounter.

How to get Shiny Toxapex
- Find and catch a Shiny Mareanie while it is available through a listed encounter route. Confirm the shiny marker on the encounter screen.
- Collect 50 Mareanie Candy.
- Open Mareanie’s Pokémon details and tap Evolve to evolve it into Toxapex. Pokémon GO’s Fashion Week announcement gives the 50-Candy requirement. Pokémon GO Fashion Week announcement
The practical route is to catch the shiny first and then evolve that Pokémon. Evolving an ordinary Mareanie does not turn it shiny. A community-maintained shiny listing identifies Toxapex as an evolution-only shiny; this is community reference information, while the official announcement confirms the evolution and Candy cost.
