Kartana is a Grass/Steel Ultra Beast with a double weakness to Fire, making strong Fire attackers the clearest choice for this raid. Fighting attacks also deal super-effective damage. The exact team size depends on your Pokémon, levels, weather, friendship bonuses, and dodging—not every group can count on a solo.
What is Kartana weak to?
Kartana’s Grass/Steel typing makes Fire its double weakness: Fire attacks exploit both of its types. Fighting attacks are also super effective, but Fire-focused teams are the priority when you have strong options. Niantic’s general raid advice is to choose attacks that are super effective against the boss’s type, as explained in its Raid Battles support guide.

Pokémon GO Hub’s September 23, 2026 guide ranks the following attackers near the top. These are guide-specific recommendations, not guaranteed results for every team or battle condition.

The same guide also lists other Fire attackers. If you do not have its top-ranked Pokémon, use your strongest available Pokémon with Fire-type attacks rather than holding out for a perfect lineup. Pokebattler also lists Mega Charizard Y with Fire Spin and Blast Burn among its leading options. Rankings and simulator outputs can shift with battle assumptions; they are not reports of guaranteed in-game performance.

How many players does Kartana take?
Plan around your group’s actual roster rather than treating a best-case solo estimate as a general promise. Pokémon GO Hub’s September 2026 guide recommends one to five high-level Trainers with strong counters, with more players for lower-level or less optimized teams. Pokebattler’s July 2026 guide gives a one-Trainer minimum only under specific conditions: a level-40 Trainer, best-friend bonus, and optimal weather. It recommends two or more Trainers when using level-20 counters.
- Strong, high-level counters: A small, prepared group may be enough; the cited guide range is one to five high-level Trainers.
- Lower-level or weaker counters: Bring more players. Pokebattler recommends at least two Trainers with level-20 counters.
- Best-case solo: The one-player estimate depends on the level-40, best-friend, optimal-weather assumptions above. Do not rely on it if your setup differs.
Team strength, Pokémon and Trainer levels, friendship, weather, move choices, and dodging all affect whether a group succeeds. Niantic advises teaming up or inviting friends for difficult bosses. You can rejoin a raid while its timer is still active without spending another pass, according to its Raid Battles support guide.

Kartana’s moves and raid tactics
Kartana’s listed fast moves are Razor Leaf, Fury Cutter, and Air Slash. Its charged moves are Leaf Blade, X-Scissor, Sacred Sword, Aerial Ace, and Night Slash. Pokebattler notes that Aerial Ace and Sacred Sword can hit common Fire secondary types, so a Fire attacker’s damage output is not the only consideration: watch for the charged move and be ready to dodge.
- Build around super-effective damage. Prioritize Fire attacks, with Fighting as another super-effective option.
- Watch Kartana’s charged attack. Dodge when needed, particularly if a move threatens your current Pokémon. Niantic also recommends dodging Charged Attacks to reduce damage.
- Rejoin if your team faints. If the raid timer remains active, re-enter the battle rather than assuming a fainted team ends your attempt. You can rejoin without another pass while the raid is active.
- Scale the lobby to your team. Add Trainers when your counters are lower level or less optimized, rather than relying on the narrow best-case solo conditions.

Is Kartana currently in raids?
The consulted sources do not confirm whether Kartana is in raids on October 8, 2026, or give a verified return date. Check the in-game raid schedule or an official Pokémon GO event announcement before planning around its availability.
Why raid estimates can change
Raid simulations depend on their assumptions, including levels, friendship, weather, and battle choices. Niantic’s official Raid and Battle Systems Update says raid and Gym battle updates include changes to damage output, energy generation, and the duration of certain Pokémon attacks. The published update does not quantify how those changes affect every Kartana simulation, so treat dated rankings and solo estimates as conditional rather than universal.
