To progress from Trainer level 71 to 80 in Pokémon GO, you need to meet each level’s XP requirement and finish its Level-Up Research tasks. The task list applies across levels 71–80, but each level has its own objectives and reward bundle. The level cap rose from 50 to 80 on October 15, 2025; the task and reward details below come from a Pocket Tactics guide updated August 21, 2026, while milestone rules and selected cosmetics are confirmed by Pokémon GO’s official update.
How Level-Up Research works at levels 71–80
Pokémon GO’s level-cap update introduced Level-Up Research tasks for each Trainer level from 71 through 80. You must satisfy both the XP requirement and the tasks for your current level to advance. The Help Center says excess XP carries forward while you are waiting to complete a task gate, so earning XP beyond the threshold is not wasted.
The task rows below are reported by Pocket Tactics, updated August 21, 2026. Pokémon GO’s official update confirms the task-gated system but does not list every individual task in this table. Check your in-game Level-Up Research before planning around a specific count, since the detailed rows are attributed to the secondary guide rather than independently confirmed here by the game publisher.

XP figures in this table are per-level increments reported by Pocket Tactics, not official cumulative XP milestones.

How to plan for the task gates
The requirements combine repeatable actions with long-horizon goals and activities that may depend on access to other players or game features. Planning is especially useful for tasks that span multiple days, require many actions, or involve distance.
- Start streaks and distance goals early. The level 72 Route requirement takes seven consecutive days, while later levels call for 200–400 km of exploration.
- Track medal progress. The platinum-medal threshold rises from 15 at level 71 to 50 at level 80. From Map View, open your Trainer Profile and select a medal to view progress, according to the Help Center.
- Build toward large counts over time. Throws, Field Research tasks, raids, Eggs, gifts, and Rocket battles appear in substantial quantities. Check the level’s task screen so you can prioritize relevant activities.
- Coordinate where a task needs other players. The listed requirements include distant trades, Lucky Pokémon, gifts, and GO Battle League battles; their completion may depend on friends, trading opportunities, or battle participation.
- Account for feature-specific tasks. Max Move upgrades and Max Battles require engaging with the Max Battle system, while raid and GO Battle League tasks call for those respective activities.
These are planning implications of the listed objectives, not measured completion times or claims that one level is objectively easier than another. A Pokémon GO Plus accessory may help with catching volume, but it does not complete throw, medal, walking, raid, research, battle, trade, or friendship objectives and is not required.

What changed when the Trainer level cap rose to 80
Pokémon GO raised the Trainer level cap from 50 to 80 on October 15, 2025. The change rebalanced the leveling curve and moved Level-Up Research tasks from levels 41–50 to levels 71–80. It affects Trainer level, not the level cap for Pokémon.
The official update says previously earned XP was applied to the rebalanced curve, players did not lose levels, and Trainers who had been level 23 or higher gained at least one level. Rewards for prior levels, including avatar and storage rewards, were granted retroactively. Players kept level 40–50 cosmetics and poses they had already earned, including the level 50 Jacket; those legacy items stopped being available through leveling after October 15, 2025.

Daily Adventure Egg: a separate XP mechanic
The Daily Adventure Egg is not a level 71–80 task or reward bundle. Pokémon GO says players at level 15 or above can receive one on their first login on a new day. It uses its own Incubator, hatches after 1 km, awards 10,000 XP, and does not take up regular Egg storage.
