Pokémon GO suffered a broad login and connectivity incident on Friday, August 14, 2026. Players in multiple regions reported “Network Error,” “Network Error (2),” “Unable to authenticate,” “Failed to log in,” endless loading and forced sign-outs on both Wi-Fi and cellular connections. Community reports later indicated that access returned for most players, although no directly verifiable official incident report explains the cause or gives a formal all-clear.
Updated September 28, 2026. The August 14 incident appears resolved for most players; the troubleshooting steps below are for anyone still unable to sign in.
Was Pokémon GO down?
The available evidence supports a widespread Pokémon GO service incident rather than a problem confined to one phone or home network. Players described the same failures at roughly the same time from different regions, including the United States, California, Belgium and India. Reports also mentioned simultaneous sign-outs, a maintenance-style screen, and difficulty reaching the Pokémon GO Web Store or Pokémon Trainer Central.

Crowd reports are regional and anecdotal, and the retrieved evidence does not establish an exact outage percentage, start time, end time or technical cause. One community thread said Scopely acknowledged the problem on X at about 7:25 p.m. Eastern Time on August 14. That is a community-reported acknowledgment, not a directly verified official post, so it should not be treated as a confirmed incident statement.
How to tell a broad outage from a local problem

These are diagnostic clues, not proof. A regional outage can look local, and delayed reports can make a recovered service appear unavailable.
What the Pokémon GO errors mean
Players during the August 14 incident reported:
- “Network Error” and “Network Error (2)”
- “Unable to authenticate”
- “Failed to log in”
- Endless loading or a service-unavailable screen
- Removal from an active session followed by an inability to reconnect
- Inability to open related login or store services
Niantic’s official error guidance says authentication failures can result from a temporary server problem or poor network connectivity. The message alone cannot identify which one is responsible.

Has the August 14 outage been fixed?
Later player reports indicated that Pokémon GO login and gameplay were working again for most users on August 14. Because no independently verified official resolution notice was found, the careful status is appears resolved for most players, not a guaranteed worldwide all-clear.
The retrieved evidence does not confirm the exact cause, whether every login provider failed, whether the incident was global rather than a set of regional failures, or whether any compensation was offered. A reported maintenance screen and reported Web Store failures remain player testimony, not an official incident report.
What to do if you still cannot log in
Work through these steps in order. They start with low-risk checks and leave account-changing actions until you know the service is operating normally.

- Check current reports. Look for several independent reports from your region and, if possible, try another device or network. If many players are seeing the same error, waiting may be more effective than changing account settings.
- Test the connection. Confirm mobile data is enabled, then switch between Wi-Fi and cellular. On an unstable 5G connection, try LTE/4G. Niantic lists these checks in its network troubleshooting guidance.
- Force-close Pokémon GO and reopen it. On Android, use
Settings > Apps > Pokémon GO > Force Stop. On iPhone, open the app switcher, swipe Pokémon GO away, and launch it again. - Install updates. Update Pokémon GO through the official app store and install pending operating-system updates. Do not use unofficial APKs or third-party “login fix” tools.
- Disable a VPN temporarily. Pokémon Support specifically includes disabling a VPN in its Pokémon Trainer Central troubleshooting steps.
- Use the provider linked to the account. Pokémon GO accounts may use Google, Apple, Facebook, Pokémon Trainer Central, Niantic Kids or another supported provider. Choosing a different button can create or open a different account instead of recovering the original one.
- Clear the Android cache. Go to
Settings > Apps > Pokémon GO > Storage > Clear Cache. Avoid clearing app data unless you know the exact provider and credentials for the account. - Reinstall only after confirming your login details. Reinstallation can repair damaged local files, but it cannot repair an active server outage and removes the installed client while you are already unable to pass the login screen. Your Pokémon GO account and stored Pokémon are held server-side, not erased by uninstalling.
- Contact support if the service is back but your account still fails. Use the Pokémon GO Help Center contact flow and include the exact error, device model, operating-system version, Pokémon GO app version, login provider, region and the time the problem began.
Pokémon Trainer Central login: separate checks
If your Pokémon GO account uses Pokémon Trainer Central, first test that account outside the game:
- Sign in through the official Pokémon website using the same credentials.
- Confirm that Pokémon GO or Niantic still appears in the account’s connected or authorized applications.
- Update the device and Pokémon GO, and disable any VPN while testing.
- Reset the Trainer Central password only if the external account rejects the credentials, you suspect compromise, or support directs you to do so.
The Pokémon Support article updated January 30, 2026 documents these checks, including cache clearing on Android and reinstalling on iOS.
Is a Network Error evidence of a ban?
No. A network or authentication error, even after a forced sign-out, is not by itself evidence that an account has been suspended. Niantic’s general sign-in guide treats login-provider problems, account recovery and suspended accounts as separate issues.

Do not repeatedly change passwords, remove accounts from the phone or delete the app during a suspected outage. If other players can connect but your account still cannot, use the support route and describe the specific account-status message, if any.

Children’s accounts
Accounts created with a child’s date of birth may use Niantic Kids or Pokémon Trainer Central as the available sign-in method. Google, Apple or Facebook buttons may not appear. Use account recovery rather than guessing providers.

Before reinstalling on a replacement phone, identify the original provider. Signing in with a different provider can open a new Pokémon GO account and make the original account appear missing.

Disconnected during a raid
Record the time, raid location, error text and any visible purchase or encounter details. Do not immediately repeat a purchase while the service is unstable; provide those details to support if the encounter or item is not restored.
Login works but gameplay is unstable
Authentication can recover before every gameplay service, location service or network route is healthy. Continue with connection checks rather than assuming the account is suspended.
Older or unsupported devices
Niantic maintains separate compatibility notices. A device-specific problem should not automatically be attributed to the August 14 incident; one separate Android login issue is documented here.

- Its precise beginning and end times
- Whether all login providers failed identically
- Whether the scope was global or a collection of regional failures
- Any compensation or guaranteed restoration policy
If you publish or maintain a live status update, record the date and time, region tested, login method, and whether normal gameplay, raids, account access and the Web Store worked at that moment.
