Best counters for Mega Heracross
Flying-type damage is the priority: Mega Heracross is doubly weak to Flying. Pokémon GO Hub’s November 2, 2025-updated guide puts Mega Rayquaza and Rayquaza with Air Slash and Dragon Ascent at the top of its counter list. Those are guide rankings, not a guarantee that every player has the Pokémon or moves; choose the strongest Flying attackers available in your own roster.

How many Trainers should join?
Use five or more high-level Trainers as a planning baseline, following Pokémon GO Hub’s recommendation. This is editorial guidance, not an official guaranteed minimum. Add players when the group has fewer optimized counters, lower-powered teams, or uncertainty about its damage output. The available guidance does not establish a dependable solo or duo clear.

Defeating the boss more quickly also matters for rewards: Niantic says, “The amount of Mega Energy you’ll receive from a Mega Raid Battle depends on how quickly you defeat the Raid Boss.” See Niantic’s Mega Evolution support page.
Mega Energy, evolution cost and the raid catch
Pokémon GO Hub’s November 2, 2025-updated guide states that a Heracross’s first Mega Evolution costs 200 Mega Energy, while a later evolution of that same Heracross costs 40 Mega Energy. It also says that after the cooldown, a subsequent Mega Evolution can be free. These game values may change, so check the current in-game Mega Evolution screen before spending energy.

Current availability is not established by the cited raid guide or event announcements. Check the in-game raid listing before using a Raid Pass or planning a group. Featured raids and Raid Hours are event-specific and scheduled in local time; a calendar announcement does not confirm that Mega Heracross is currently featured.
Mega Heracross debuted in Mega Raids during Mega Heracross Raid Day on Saturday, April 13, 2024, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. local time. Niantic’s announcement described that historical event’s bonuses, including up to five additional daily Raid Passes from Gym Photo Discs and an increased chance of shiny Heracross.
