The mysterious Pokémon is Diancie, the Mythical Rock- and Fairy-type introduced in Pokémon X and Pokémon Y. In Pokémon Legends: Z-A, you can add Diancie to your team by claiming a Diancite through Mystery Gift and completing a postgame side mission. The headline’s “not seen since X & Y” framing should be read as a return to this game, not as a verified claim that Diancie has been absent from every Pokémon game since its debut.
How do you get Diancie in Pokémon Legends: Z-A?
There are two required parts: first claim the Diancite through Mystery Gift, then complete the mission “Shine Bright like a Gemstone.” The Pokémon Company International’s event instructions say completing the mission adds Diancie to your team; the stone also lets Diancie Mega Evolve into Mega Diancie.

- Unlock Mystery Gift. It becomes available after approximately one hour of play.
- Claim the Diancite. Open Mystery Gift and choose “Get via Internet.” You need an internet connection and a Nintendo Account linked to your user profile to connect.
- Finish the main story. The side mission is gated behind completing the main story.
- Start the mission. Go to the Looker Bureau and speak with Mimi, Emma’s Espurr partner.
- Complete “Shine Bright like a Gemstone.” The official event instructions say this adds Diancie to your team.
The event announcement is dated November 6, 2025, and says Diancite distribution begins that day. It does not give an end date, so the announcement alone cannot confirm that the Mystery Gift is still claimable. Check the in-game Mystery Gift option or a current official notice for availability.
Where do you claim the Diancite?
Claim it in-game through Mystery Gift using “Get via Internet”; it is not a physical item you need to find in the world. The official instructions specify that the stone can be obtained in either the physical or digital version of the supported game.

Do you have to beat the main story first?
Yes. You can claim the Diancite once Mystery Gift is unlocked, but you must complete the main story in either Pokémon Legends: Z-A or Pokémon Legends: Z-A – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition before starting the Diancie mission.
What to expect during the Diancie mission
Nintendo Life’s guide describes the rooftop encounter as a level 70 Diancie accompanied by two Carbink. The guide recommends taking out the Carbink first and using Water- or Steel-type moves. It also says another catch attempt is possible if you accidentally knock Diancie out. These encounter details and recommendations come from Nintendo Life’s guide, rather than the official event announcement.

The Pokémon Company International also lists Diancie at 0.7 m and 8.8 kg, and Mega Diancie at 1.1 m and 27.8 kg. These are the characters’ fictional specifications, not real-world measurements.
