Mega Stones in Pokémon Legends: Z-A come from different sources: story battles, side missions, district pickups, shops, Mega Shard exchanges, ranked battles, and—if you own the DLC—Hyperspace areas. There is no single route for every stone. The verified location references available here identify several specific stones, but not a complete stone-by-stone list, so the locations below are labeled as examples rather than presented as exhaustive.
How Mega Evolution works
A Pokémon must hold its corresponding Mega Stone, and its Trainer must have a Key Stone. The Pokémon Company explains that the Trainer’s Key Stone resonates with the held Mega Stone to allow Mega Evolution. Some species also change type when they Mega Evolve.

Ways to get Mega Stones
Defeat a Rogue Mega Evolution
Some Rogue Mega battles award the matching Mega Stone when you win. These opponents are tied to main-story progress, so check the battle reward before searching the city for a pickup. PowerPyx’s October 15, 2025 walkthrough and Nintendo Life’s December 10, 2025 guide describe Rogue Mega victories as a stone-reward route.
Progress through the story or a side mission
Some stones are story or mission rewards. Follow the relevant mission and its objective rather than assuming the item is waiting at a street location. The available references establish side missions as an acquisition category, but do not identify a mission number or name for a specific stone.
#1 Best Overall
- Your journey will take you to all manner of sights in the streets arrayed around Prism Tower, including shops, restaurants, and places called wild zones—where Pokémon roam free.
- As you catch, train, and battle Pokémon, there will be plenty of people to meet too—like AZ, the enigmatic owner of Hotel Z.
Pick up a stone in a district or named area
Some stones are found at a district, sector, plaza, arena, or Hyperspace location. The verified location examples include Absolite in Vert District; Ampharosite in Rouge District, Rouge Sector 6; Altarianite in Magenta District, Magenta Sector 4; Banettite in Jaune District, Jaune Sector 9; and Zygardite at Centrico Plaza.
Buy a stone or exchange Mega Shards
Shop availability can depend on story progress or rank. Some stones are associated with the Stone Emporium, some with Vernal Avenue, and many with Quasartico Inc.; the shop name is stone-specific, so do not assume all purchasable stones are sold at the same counter. Quasartico Inc. also exchanges Mega Shards for certain stones. Check the individual stone listing for its shop, cost, and any stated gate before spending shards.

Some Mega Stones are listed as ranked battle rewards. This route involves online ranked battles, and season-specific availability can change; check the current in-game reward details before pursuing a particular stone.
Explore Hyperspace areas with Mega Dimension
Some locations are part of the Mega Dimension additional story content. Nintendo Support says the DLC, including the Mega Raichu X and Mega Raichu Y stones, became available on December 9, 2025, and is compatible with both Pokémon Legends: Z-A and the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition. Treat Hyperspace stone locations as DLC content, not base-game pickups.

How to interpret published Mega counts
Published counts do not all measure the same thing. Nintendo Life’s December 10, 2025 guide reports 72 Mega Evolutions in the base version, while PowerPyx’s October 15, 2025 guide reports 62 Mega Stones. Those are dated guide counts with different labels, not interchangeable totals; neither should be presented as the current all-content total after DLC.
