Mega Dimension gives Pokémon Legends: Z-A a substantial postgame track: a new story, timed Hyperspace excursions, tougher battles, side missions and more Pokémon to find. It improves the amount and challenge of endgame activity, but reviews disagree on how fresh it feels. Repetitive dimensions and uneven story pacing keep it from being a universal fix.
What Mega Dimension adds to the postgame
Mega Dimension is additional story content that uses the same save data as Pokémon Legends: Z-A. Players must finish the base game’s main story before they can begin the DLC story, and they must own the base game. Nintendo’s announcement describes spatial distortions leading to Hyperspace Lumiose.

Nintendo’s DLC page names Ansha and Hoopa as central to the story. Players make special donuts that grant effects in Hyperspace Lumiose, where they can encounter rare Pokémon and Pokémon above the usual level-100 cap. Mega Raichu X and Mega Raichu Y are among the new Mega-Evolved Pokémon.
The expansion also gives players more to do around Lumiose City. MeriStation’s 2025 review reports extra side missions, timed visits to bounded Hyperspace areas and challenging Mega battles. The review estimates that the DLC adds more than 100 Pokémon absent from the base game; that count is a reviewer report, not a publisher-issued statistic.
#1 Best Overall
- Venture into Hyperspace Lumiose in this additional story content that can be accessed after completing the main game
- Work with the mysterious baker, Ansha, to make donuts that awaken the Mythical Pokémon Hoopa’s power and grant you and your Pokémon a variety of useful effects
- Join Team MZ and the Mega Evolution Successor, Korrina, to investigate Hyperspace Lumiose, the otherworldly home to rare and hyper-strong Pokémon
- Discover new Mega Evolutions such as Mega Raichu X, Mega Raichu Y, Mega Chimecho and Mega Baxcalibur
- Claim Holo-X and Holo-Y in-game apparel items, which you can wear as soon as you are able to customize your character’s look and outfit in the main game
Does it improve the base game’s endgame?
In practical terms, yes: it adds a new progression track after the main story, more battles and a larger collection chase. The strongest improvement is for players who wanted more to do with their team after finishing the campaign, especially those who enjoy difficult fights and filling out a Pokédex.
MeriStation praises the challenge and variety of the excursions, which use donut effects and timed objectives to shape each run. It also says players can learn the dimensions’ patterns and that the story loses momentum. Nintendo Life’s review likewise points to new Pokémon and side missions, but criticizes repetitive Hyperspace dimensions, bland level design and donut making. The added hours do not necessarily translate to equally fresh activities throughout.
How much content is there?
MeriStation estimates about 10 hours for the main story and 25–30 hours for all content, excluding completion of the Dimensional Pokédex. Those are that reviewer’s estimates, not guaranteed completion times; exploration, battle choices and collection goals can change how long a player spends.

- Your journey will take you to all manner of sights in the streets arrayed around Prism Tower, including shops, restaurants, and places called wild zones—where Pokémon roam free.
- As you catch, train, and battle Pokémon, there will be plenty of people to meet too—like AZ, the enigmatic owner of Hotel Z.
That distinction matters when weighing value. The story estimate describes a focused run, while the larger figure includes optional content. Players who mainly want a new narrative may have a different experience from collectors pursuing every available activity.

Nintendo’s later DLC page says the story content released on December 10, 2025, and lists a US price of $29.99. That is a US listing, not a global price; check the eShop for current pricing and availability in your region. Nintendo Support’s purchase and compatibility information says the DLC works with both Pokémon Legends: Z-A and its Nintendo Switch 2 Edition on Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch, provided you also have the base game on that system.
Nintendo Support lists Holo-X and Holo-Y apparel as available from October 16, 2025, and the additional story content, including the Mega Raichu X and Y Mega Stones, as available from December 9, 2025. Nintendo’s later news page gives December 10 for the public story-content release. These dates differ by one day across official communications; the later announcement is the clearest public release date.

Nintendo has also announced a Pokémon Legends: Z-A – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Mega Dimension physical bundle for October 29, 2026. As of October 8, 2026, that date is still in the future. Nintendo’s product page says the Switch 2 Edition and DLC are included on one game card. This is a bundle with the base game, not a DLC-only purchase; confirm release and stock before seeking it out.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Who is most likely to enjoy it?
- Players who want a longer postgame: The story, excursions and extra missions give you a new set of goals after the main campaign.
- Players seeking tougher battles: MeriStation highlights the Mega battles and difficulty as a strength, while the level-above-100 encounters raise the ceiling for progression.
- Collectors: New encounters and the reviewer-reported roster additions offer more to pursue, especially if completing the Dimensional Pokédex appeals to you.
- Players sensitive to repetition: Nintendo Life’s criticism of recurring dimension layouts and MeriStation’s observation that patterns become familiar are reasons to temper expectations.
So the DLC meaningfully improves the quantity and combat challenge of Z-A’s postgame, but not necessarily its variety or narrative momentum. Whether that is enough depends on whether more battles and collection are what you wanted from the endgame.
