Magnet Rise, Rock Smash, and Surf are among the most useful Ditto transformations in Pokémon Pokopia because they open up building, resource gathering, and travel. This ranking weighs how broadly each skill helps during play; it is an editorial order, not an official ranking, and your priorities may shift if you focus on exploration, mining, farming, or construction.
How to read this ranking
Ditto learns abilities from Pokémon encountered in the world, and those abilities help restore and reshape the landscape. Nintendo Life counts 14 skills, including primary abilities, upgrades, and control abilities—not 14 wholly distinct transformations. The ranking below favors skills with broad or frequent practical uses, while noting when an ability is gated behind later progression or an update.

Pokémon Pokopia is a Nintendo Switch 2 game. Some abilities and areas require later progression, and Dive’s connection to Bubbly Basin involves a paid Expansion Pass; those distinctions are called out where relevant.
The 10 most useful Ditto transformations
1. Magnet Rise — Magnemite
Magnet Rise is the strongest choice for large-scale construction. It gives Ditto flight-like movement, lets you place and replace blocks, and helps absorb blocks and materials that can be difficult to collect otherwise. It is a post-game ability: build Magnemite’s Factory Storage habitat, then learn the transformation from Magnemite. Its late unlock means it will not help with early-game progress, but it has exceptional value once building becomes a focus.

- Item Dimensions: 5.5 x 5.8 x 6 inches (13.9 x 14.7 x 15.2 cm)

2. Rock Smash — Hitmonchan
Rock Smash combines access with resource gathering: use it to break terrain and obstacles. A hamburger steak temporarily strengthens the move so Ditto can break harder materials such as stone, steel, and crystal. Hitmonchan teaches Rock Smash in Withered Wasteland. The food boost is temporary, so save it for tougher materials rather than treating the enhanced effect as permanent.
3. Surf — Lapras
Surf lets Ditto travel across water, making it a core exploration ability. It also unlocks a route to a later ability: Jump and Surf are both required to learn Dive. Lapras teaches Surf in Bleak Beach.

- Item Dimensions: 4.8 x 2.5 x 7 inches (12.1 x 6.3 x 17.7 cm)

4. Glide — Dragonite
Jump, then activate Glide to travel farther and cross gaps. Glide is a valuable late-game traversal upgrade, particularly when moving across areas where a direct route is inconvenient. Dragonite teaches it in Sparkling Skylands.
5. Dive — update ability
Dive adds underwater movement and opens access to Bubbly Basin. It requires Jump and Surf, plus completion of the “Raise the environment level!” request in Bleak Beach. Nintendo says Dive is included in a free software update for game owners; access to Bubbly Basin itself is part of the paid Expansion Pass. Part 1 of the pass, which includes Bubbly Basin, released August 4, 2026. The free ability and the paid area are separate: learning Dive does not by itself grant the Expansion Pass content.

6. Strength — Machoke
Strength lets Ditto push large boulders and blocks, so you can reposition them to clear routes or shape habitats. It is a practical landscape-building tool even when you are not collecting materials. Machoke teaches Strength in Rocky Ridges.
7. Cut — Scyther
Cut clears trees, grass, and wood piles, making it useful for opening space and gathering materials. Bread upgrades the move so Ditto can use it at a distance and cut through metal grating. Scyther teaches Cut in Withered Wasteland.
Rank #4
- Ditto is pretending to be Eevee! How can you tell? It's all in the eyes! Enjoy Ditto taking on lots of different looks in the Ditto As collection.
- Soft fabric and embroidered details
- Care Instructions: Hand-wash only. Dry flat in shade.
- Item Dimensions: 3.3 x 5.5 x 6.8 inches (8.3 x 13.9 x 17.2 cm)

8. Water Gun — Squirtle
Water Gun revives dry ground and waters crops, flowers, and trees. Soup extends its range, which makes tending a larger area more convenient. Squirtle teaches Water Gun in Withered Wasteland.
9. Rollout — Graveler
Rollout destroys blocks faster than Rock Smash, making it especially handy for clearing and mining. It complements rather than replaces Rock Smash: Rock Smash has a temporary food upgrade for harder materials, while Rollout’s main advantage is speed against blocks. Graveler teaches Rollout in Rocky Ridges.

10. Rototiller — Drilbur

These abilities remain useful; they rank lower here because their benefits are more specialized or overlap with higher-ranked picks.
- Leafage — Bulbasaur: Supports grass and habitat-making. Salad expands the surfaces where it can be used. Habitat designers may value it more highly than this general-purpose ranking does.
- Jump — Magikarp: A basic movement ability and a prerequisite for Dive. It is an important early skill, even though later traversal options offer more reach.
- Camouflage — Zorua: Mostly a playful transformation rather than an efficiency tool. It can be fun when visiting other players, but it has no technical gameplay function described in Nintendo Life’s guide.
- Liquid absorption — Paldean Wooper: Helps remove water or mud, a situational way to alter the landscape.
- Waterfall — Gyarados: Extends Surf so Ditto can climb waterfalls. It is useful where that terrain appears, but narrower in scope than Surf itself.
Water Gun, Leafage, Cut, and Rock Smash are taught in Withered Wasteland; their food upgrades are soup, salad, bread, and hamburger steak, respectively. Jump is also taught there. In Bleak Beach, Lapras teaches Surf, Zorua teaches Camouflage, and Paldean Wooper teaches liquid absorption. Rocky Ridges is where Machoke teaches Strength and Graveler teaches Rollout; Sparkling Skylands is where Dragonite teaches Glide and Gyarados teaches Waterfall. Magnet Rise is a post-game unlock, while Dive requires the update and Bleak Beach request described above.
Which abilities should you prioritize?
- For exploration: Prioritize Surf, then work toward Glide and Dive as you reach their unlock requirements. Jump is an early movement skill and part of the Dive prerequisite.
- For mining and clearing: Learn Rock Smash and Rollout. Use Rock Smash’s temporary hamburger steak boost when harder materials are the target.
- For construction: Strength helps reposition large objects, while Magnet Rise offers the biggest post-game improvement to block placement and collection.
- For farming: Water Gun and Rototiller cover watering and soil preparation. Leafage is worth prioritizing if habitat design is your main interest.
