Mega Evolution—Phantasmal Flames is an English Pokémon TCG expansion released November 14, 2025. Its appeal is split between collectors chasing Mega Charizard X ex and players exploring new Mega Evolution combinations. TCGplayer’s reported pack-opening sample suggests the rarest cards are exceptionally difficult to pull; the deck ideas highlighted so far are plausible synergies, not verified tournament-winning lists.
What is in Phantasmal Flames?
Mega Evolution—Phantasmal Flames is the second set in the Mega Evolution series, according to PokéBeach’s set guide. The guide describes the English expansion as combining cards from the Japanese Mega Gengar & Mega Diancie ex decks and Inferno X. It counts 94 numbered cards before secret rares and approximately 130 cards with secret rares included. Those are guide counts; they are not presented here as an independently verified count from the official card-list PDF.
The chase-card conversation centers on Mega Charizard X ex, alongside secret rares including Oricorio ex, Mega Sharpedo ex, Mega Lopunny ex, Rotom ex and Mismagius ex. That gives the set two distinct draws: high-rarity art and collection hunting, and new card interactions for players to explore.
Phantasmal Flames pull rates: what the sample says
On November 18, 2025, PokéBeach reported TCGplayer estimates based on opening more than 5,000 Phantasmal Flames booster packs. The reported frequencies were:

| Double Rare | About one per five packs — TCGplayer, 2025, as reported by PokéBeach. |
These are observed sample estimates, not official Pokémon odds, guarantees or promises about an individual pack or box. “About one per 400” describes the frequency of that card in the reported sample; it does not mean a buyer is assured one after purchasing 400 packs. A particular pack opening can fall well above or below a long-run frequency.
Are packs the best way to get a specific card?
If the goal is the experience of opening packs or collecting broadly, the estimates offer context for what may turn up. If the goal is one named card, buying it as a single is a more direct route than relying on random packs. No current pack or singles prices are established here, so there is no supported cost comparison or expected-cost calculation.

Best-supported Phantasmal Flames deck build ideas
GamesRadar’s December 6, 2025 Phantasmal Flames review points to three combinations worth investigating. It does not provide complete tournament lists or event results for them. Treat these as build directions, not a current competitive ranking.
Mega Charizard X ex with Oricorio ex
GamesRadar describes Mega Charizard X ex as an attacker that deals 90 damage for each Fire Energy discarded from the player’s Pokémon. Oricorio ex’s Excited Turbo can accelerate Fire Energy to Benched Pokémon when its player has a Fire-type Mega Evolution Pokémon. The interaction suggests a way to build Fire Energy on the Bench and feed Mega Charizard X ex’s attack, and GamesRadar suggests the pair could fit into an existing Charizard ex deck. The source does not establish how consistently the combination sets up or how it performs against the field.

Mega Sharpedo ex with Toxtricity
GamesRadar says Mega Sharpedo ex can deal 270 damage when it has damage counters. Toxtricity accelerates Darkness Energy by placing two damage counters on the Pokémon receiving the Energy, so the two cards have a direct mechanical interaction: the acceleration also helps meet Sharpedo’s damaged-Pokémon condition. The cited analysis gives no list or match results, so consistency, risk and competitive strength remain unproven.
Mega Gengar ex
GamesRadar highlights Mega Gengar ex’s Shadowy Concealment ability as a possible way to influence the prize trade when an opponent knocks out a Pokémon ex. The review frames it as a dark-horse idea that could reward setup and ingenuity. That is an assessment of its potential, not evidence of tournament success.

Are these the best decks in the current format?
There is not enough evidence in the cited analysis to call any of these the format’s best deck builds. It does not include complete lists, tournament placements, matchup data or consistency testing. Current legality, rotation status and event results are also not established here, so players should check current format rules and recent event data before investing in a competitive list.
