The count suggests a striking concentration in that reported top eight, but it is a historical result—not proof of the current metagame or independently verified standings.
What the tournament report says
Gaming.News reported that Darkrai ex featured in seven of the event’s top eight teams and that six of those seven used Magneton alongside it. The article did not identify the tournament in its body or link to a primary standings record. Gaming.News, February 4, 2025
A guide published by AELGAMES on the same date identifies the event as the Hoogland & Spragels Open and repeats the seven-of-eight figure. Its inspected text does not provide the event date, format, field size, complete standings, or a primary results record. AELGAMES, published February 4, 2025; modified November 5, 2025
Those figures should therefore be read as counts reported by secondary coverage, not as independently audited official standings. The available material also does not include full deck lists, match records, or matchup data, so it cannot establish how Darkrai ex performed against specific alternatives.

How the reported Darkrai ex and Magneton plan worked
Gaming.News described a setup in which Magnemite evolves into Magneton, whose passive ability accumulates Lightning Energy, while the player attaches Dark Energy to Darkrai ex. In the article’s account, attaching Dark Energy triggers Darkrai ex’s damage ability against an opposing Pokémon. This gives the deck a developing energy engine while Darkrai ex applies pressure.
The article also described two supporting options: Cyrus could move a damaged opposing benched Pokémon into the active spot, and Dawn could move energy from a benched Pokémon to an active one. It presented Magnezone as a possible pivot for the strategy. These are the source’s explanations of the plan; the cited material does not independently verify every card interaction against current official card text or game rules.

What seven of eight does—and does not—show
If the reported count is accurate, Darkrai ex’s presence in seven top-eight teams and Magneton’s pairing in six of those seven indicate that the combination was prominent among the reported finishers. The figures do not show that every team used the same list, that the pairing won most matches, or that it was favored against every opposing deck. Without the full standings and match data, those conclusions are not supported.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Why this is a historical result, not a current meta verdict
The Gaming.News article framed the deck in the early-2025 expansion environment, including the Space-Time Smackdown context. A result reported in February 2025 cannot establish which decks are strongest in Pokémon TCG Pocket now. The defensible takeaway is narrower: contemporary coverage described Darkrai ex as unusually common among the top eight teams at a recent event, while the reviewed sources leave the primary event record and detailed results unavailable.
