When did Mythical Island come out?
Mythical Island was released on December 17, 2024. The Pokémon Company announced the date on December 12, 2024, in its official Mythical Island announcement.
How many cards are in Mythical Island?
The answer depends on when the count was reported. Before launch, the official announcement described the expansion as having “over 80 cards.” After release, MeriStation counted 86 new cards: 68 cards in the collection and 18 special-art cards. The exact figure of 86 is the post-launch report, not the number stated in the announcement.
The two figures are compatible: “over 80” was the pre-release description, while 86 is a more specific count published after launch. MeriStation’s release-day card checklist separates collection cards from special-art cards.

What’s included in the Mythical Island set?
The expansion’s featured additions include new Pokémon ex, other Pokémon, Trainer cards, and special-art versions. The official announcement highlighted five new Pokémon ex and five new Trainer cards. MeriStation’s release-day report names the following examples:
Featured Pokémon and Pokémon ex
- Pokémon ex: Celebi ex, Mew ex, Gyarados ex, Aerodactyl ex, and Pidgeot ex.
- Other Pokémon: Exeggcute, Exeggutor, Snivy, Serperior, Vaporeon, Mew, and Eevee.
Trainer cards
The report lists Trainer cards translated into English as Old Amber, Poké Flute, Mythical Slab, Budding Expeditioner, Blue, and Leaf.

Special-art cards
The 18 special-art cards include versions of Exeggutor, Serperior, Salandit, Vaporeon, Dedenne, Marshadow, and several Pokémon ex. These are special-art versions counted separately from the 68-card collection tally in MeriStation’s report; consult its checklist for the full card-by-card breakdown.

At launch, MeriStation reported three ways to obtain cards: opening Mythical Island booster packs, using Wonder Pick, and spending pack points. These are launch-period acquisition routes, not a guarantee that the app’s current mechanics or availability are unchanged. Pokémon Support explains that Pocket identifies Mythical Island with expansion code A1a and that points earned from opening an expansion can only be spent on cards from that same expansion.
