Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket launched on October 30, 2024. It is a free-to-start mobile game built around collecting digital Pokémon cards and playing quick, app-specific battles—not a digital version of the physical card game’s full rules.
What is Pokémon TCG Pocket?
Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket is a mobile card-collecting and battle game developed jointly by The Pokémon Company, Creatures Inc., and DeNA Co., Ltd. Collecting is central: the launch description says players can open two five-card digital booster packs per day at no cost. The app also features nostalgic artwork and cards made exclusively for Pocket. The Pokémon Company’s launch announcement introduced it as a new way to enjoy Pokémon cards on mobile.
How do collecting and battles work?
Digital card collecting
Pocket’s cards exist in the app; they are not physical cards. The Pokémon Company describes two five-card packs per day as available at no cost. The current official site characterizes the app as free to start, with optional in-game purchases, so the daily packs are part of a wider system that can also include paid digital content.
Quick mobile battles
Battles use 20-card decks and were adapted for smartphone play. The Pokémon Company describes matches as taking about five minutes and lists Auto-battle, Auto-Build, and Rental Deck features to make play more accessible. These are official product-description figures, not independent measurements of typical match length.

Is Pocket the same as the physical Pokémon Trading Card Game?
No. Pokémon Support explicitly says Pocket’s rules differ from the Pokémon Trading Card Game. Pocket has its own mobile battle format and digital card collection; it should not be treated as a way to play the physical game’s complete rules or as a substitute for owning physical cards.
The practical distinction is what you collect and where you play: Pocket cards are collected and used in the app, while physical cards are separately sold products for tabletop play. The official material cited here does not establish that physical boosters, decks, sleeves, or binders are needed for Pocket.

Is Pokémon TCG Pocket free?
It is free to start, with optional in-game purchases. The official support page describes the Premium Pass as a paid monthly service with in-game benefits. The pass is a digital transaction; it is not a physical product or a requirement established by the available official descriptions.
When did it launch, and is it still active?
Pokémon TCG Pocket launched on October 30, 2024, so “finally here” describes its original release period rather than a new 2026 launch. Official Pokémon updates indicate ongoing activity in 2026: Deluxe Pack: Mega launched September 29, 2026, and the official Japanese-language Pocket site says a new series starts in October 2026. Set schedules and events can change; those dates do not verify further details about the pack or series.
Supported languages and device requirements
Pokémon Support lists nine available languages: Japanese, English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, Traditional Chinese, and Korean.
Its compatibility FAQ, updated July 30, 2026, recommends these minimum specifications:
