Leaked Pokémon X and Y development material suggests that a southern area of Kalos was planned and later scrapped. That is the careful reading of reporting and archived leak posts—not an official public confirmation from Game Freak. The surviving material names some proposed locations, but it does not show a complete map or explain when or why the area was dropped.
What supports the South Kalos story?
On October 15, 2024, Pokémon Millennium reported on leaked beta map and character material for Pokémon X and Y, including claims that a South Kalos existed. The article cautioned readers to treat the leaked information carefully because not everything attributed to Centro Leaks had proved accurate. Read Pokémon Millennium’s report.

An archived Centro Leaks post dated October 21, 2024 is titled “Pokémon XY – KALOS SCRAPPED AREAS.” Its remaining text lists several area labels, but the post also says its images were deleted. A separate Centro Leaks archive entry describes a batch of concept art as including “scrapped Kalos locations.” These records show that such material circulated under that description; they do not amount to a public statement by Game Freak. See the archived post and the Centro Leaks archive.
What locations are named in the surviving material?
The archived post’s accessible text names a power plant, sea geysers, evening crystal lakes, and a possible ship graveyard. The question mark in “SHIP GRAVEYARD?” matters: the wording itself signals uncertainty. With the images missing, these labels cannot be matched to a verified map or treated as a confirmed, complete list of South Kalos locations.

What remains unknown about the cut?
- Its scope: The surviving material does not establish the full boundaries, layout, or final number of areas.
- Its intended role: The reviewed sources do not establish whether South Kalos was intended for the main game, postgame, downloadable content, or a later project.
- When or why it was dropped: The available reporting and archive do not identify a cancellation date or explain the development decision.
- Official confirmation: No named Game Freak spokesperson is cited confirming the cut or its reason. The claim should therefore remain attributed to leaked development material and reporting about it.
Is this connected to the Pokémon Legends: Z-A leak?
No. The South Kalos story concerns leaked Pokémon X and Y material reported in 2024. Separate coverage in 2025 concerned purported source code and beta builds for Pokémon Legends: Z-A; that is a different game and leak event. Nintendo Life’s report on the Z-A leak and a January 2026 deep dive on Teraleak 2 address that separate subject, not proof of South Kalos’s development history.
