You choose owned starters within a 15-point cost limit, then build a run around a goal: reach the endpoint, collect Pokémon and shinies, or earn Egg Vouchers. The key to lasting beyond the early waves is planning for escalating enemy tokens and boss encounters—not relying on raw damage alone.
How to unlock Endless and start a run
The PokéRogue Wiki describes Endless as “a new game mode that is only unlocked after beating Classic Mode for the first time.” Once unlocked, select from Pokémon you own as starters, staying within the mode’s 15-point total starter-cost limit. Unlike Classic, Endless has wild Pokémon rather than trainer battles or mysterious encounters.
The endpoint is a live-game detail: the wiki lists wave 5850 as the current final wave. Check the mode page for an updated endpoint and mechanics before planning around a long run.
How the wave and biome cycle works
Biomes change every five waves. Every 50 waves, you enter the ??? biome for a boss encounter and then move to a random biome. Changing biomes returns your Pokémon to their Poké Balls and clears stat changes, so a setup built around boosts should not assume they persist through a transition. Endless does not have a Map item.

Boss schedule and rewards
The wiki lists this milestone schedule and associated rewards. These are current mode-reference values, not guarantees for a future version.

Forced milestone fights are not the only boss encounters later in a run. Beginning at wave 251, the wiki gives a formula for boss odds on non-tenth waves: the chance rises by two percentage points every 50 waves, reaching 30% from wave 951. From that point, it estimates an average of 37% boss encounters when excluding forced legendary, sub-legendary, and mythical bosses. Treat that as a wiki estimate of encounter frequency, not a promise that a particular run will follow an exact pattern.

Why enemy tokens change the strategy
Enemies receive tokens every 50 waves. The token pool and quantity depend on the boss tier, and effects can make enemies hit harder, take less damage, recover health, endure hits, or inflict status conditions. The result is a gradual shift in what a successful run asks of a team: increasing damage alone may not be enough if enemies can outlast, blunt, or disrupt it.
The wiki warns that brute-force strategies tend to stall around waves 2000–2500. This is an approximate strategic warning, not a guaranteed wall: teams and builds differ. Use the range as a reason to plan for answers to enemy durability, healing, and status pressure before your current damage strategy stops keeping pace.

Choose the goal before choosing the team
Endless supports several different reasons to play, and the best team plan depends on which one matters to you.
- Reach the endpoint: Build for consistency across repeated encounters and milestone bosses, with a plan for the growing token pressure.
- Collect Pokémon and shinies: Leave room for collection-oriented choices alongside the Pokémon that keep the run moving. The wiki says a maximally stacked shiny-charm setup gives shiny odds of 1 in 64; check the current mode page because odds and item effects can change.
- Earn Egg Vouchers: Plan around milestone rewards as well as the Premium voucher listed for clearing wave 5850. A run focused on vouchers does not necessarily need the same priorities as one focused on maximum depth.
Build a team around roles, not a universal “best” lineup
There is no single lineup established as best for every player or run. The wiki points to community guides aimed at different stages and methods; they are routes for further reading, not evidence of comparative win rates.

Community discussions also frame team planning in terms of roles such as carry, staller, runner, boss killer, support, and tutor. Treat those as useful jobs to consider rather than mandatory slots: your starter budget is limited, and the roles you need depend on whether you are aiming for depth, collection, or rewards. The community guide index and discussion includes questions such as whether an older strategy is still the meta, but individual posts are anecdotal and do not establish effectiveness.

How to keep a long run adaptable
- Set priorities before spending the 15-point budget. Decide which role must carry early waves and which capabilities you want available for bosses or later survival.
- Account for biome transitions. Stat changes are cleared at each biome change, so avoid making a plan that only works if boosts remain active across the boundary.
- Review the build as the run changes. A team that comfortably handles early wild encounters may need different support when boss frequency and token effects rise.
- Check the guide’s assumptions. If a method relies on a specific ability, fusion, or sequence, know what alternatives you have if the intended encounter or setup does not appear.
- Recheck current mechanics. Endpoint, token effects, schedules, rewards, and shiny odds can change; use the Endless Mode page as the current reference.
