Spoilers for Poppy Playtime: Chapter 4 – Safe Haven. The ending reveals that Ollie was the Prototype in disguise, and that the explosives gathered for Poppy’s plan are turned against Safe Haven. The refuge is destroyed, Doey turns on the player after losing the toys he protected, and the player defeats him. The Prototype then confronts Poppy; Kissy appears to shield the player in an explosion, and the player falls into the Labs, where Huggy Wuggy appears. Kissy’s fate and the Prototype’s full agenda remain unknown.
How the ending turns Poppy’s plan into an attack
Chapter 4 takes the player deeper into Playtime Co., where Safe Haven is an underground refuge amid the factory’s dangers. Poppy is separated from the player while she tries to help Kissy. The player meets Doey and the toys sheltering in Safe Haven, then helps gather and place explosives for Poppy’s plan to bring down the factory by targeting its gas infrastructure.
The intended demolition is not what causes the refuge’s destruction. The Prototype takes control of the explosives and uses them to attack Safe Haven. The reversal makes the player’s work on Poppy’s plan part of the setup for the assault, even though the player did not set out to attack the refuge. Dot Esports’ February 3, 2025 recap and Game Truth’s February 1, 2025 guide describe the attack and its consequences.
Why Doey becomes the boss fight
Safe Haven is left in ruins, and Doey has lost the toys he was trying to protect. Overcome by grief and self-blame, he turns his anger toward the player. The ensuing fight ends with the player defeating him.
#1 Best Overall
- Includes the 1st three chapters; Chapter 1: A Tight Squeeze, Chapter 2: Fly in a Web, & Chapter 3: Deep Sleep
- Each chapter features engaging new toy characters that can be either friend or foe
- Survive and progress by solving challenging puzzles
- Each game reveals to you a newly discovered area of the massive toy factory
- The Poppy Playtime Triple Pack includes a reversible coversheet and a Poppy Playtime sticker sheet
Doey’s turn can be read as the collapse of his role as protector: once the refuge and its residents are gone, grief becomes blame. That is an interpretation of the events, not a confirmed developer explanation of his motives.
Was Ollie the Prototype?
Yes. The voice guiding the player as Ollie is revealed to be the Prototype impersonating him. That changes the meaning of the earlier guidance and generator-related events: the Prototype was not a trustworthy ally, and its assistance helped create the conditions for the assault on Safe Haven.

Chapter 4 confirms the deception, but not the Prototype’s complete origin, ultimate objective, or the precise nature of its connection to Poppy. Claims that the reveal explains its entire agenda go beyond what the chapter establishes.
What happens to Poppy and Kissy?
After revealing itself, the Prototype threatens Poppy with the prospect of being locked away again. Poppy runs. During the explosion that follows, Kissy appears to shield the player, but the chapter does not confirm whether she survives. Her apparent intervention and her ultimate fate are separate questions: the scene suggests she is trying to protect the player, but it does not settle what happens to her.

What does Huggy Wuggy’s appearance mean?
The player falls farther into the factory and reaches the Labs. The ending passes through a poppy garden and a recording-and-alarm sequence before Huggy Wuggy appears as the final threat. His appearance is a cliffhanger, not a full explanation of his condition, allegiance, or what happens next.

- Confirmed: Ollie was the Prototype’s disguise, and the Prototype turned the gathered explosives against Safe Haven.
- Confirmed: Safe Haven falls, Doey turns hostile after the loss of the toys he protected, and the player defeats him.
- Unresolved: Whether Kissy survives the explosion.
- Unresolved: The Prototype’s full origin, its ultimate objective, and the exact nature of its connection to Poppy.
- Unresolved: What Huggy Wuggy’s appearance means beyond the immediate cliffhanger.
These distinctions matter because the ending delivers a clear reveal about Ollie and the attack, but does not answer every question surrounding the Prototype, Kissy, or Huggy. Mob Entertainment’s official Chapter 4 page establishes the chapter’s broad premise; its Steam listing identifies it as downloadable content requiring the free base game. Neither listing provides an authoritative, detailed explanation of the ending.
