Portronics launched its K1 and K2 wired mechanical gaming keyboards in India in February 2024. Both debuted at an introductory price of ₹2,099, use a full-size 104-key layout and differ mainly in their switches: the K1 has blue tactile switches, while the K2 uses red linear switches. That makes the K1 the clickier, feedback-focused option and the K2 the smoother, less-clicky choice.
Price and availability
The launch price was ₹2,099 for each keyboard, described as an introductory price rather than a permanent MRP or guaranteed current street price. Launch coverage said the pair would be sold through Portronics, Amazon, Flipkart and some offline stores.
Availability in 2026 needs checking before you buy. A currently surfaced Portronics gaming-keyboard collection shows the K2 at ₹2,099, but the K1 was not visible in that result. Treat that as a listing snapshot, not a guarantee of stock or price: check the live Portronics gaming-keyboard collection and the specific seller page. The K1 was available at launch, but its present official availability is not confirmed by the surfaced collection.

The launch specifications come from launch coverage and a reproduced product announcement. They do not establish full N-key rollover, per-key RGB control or any particular switch manufacturer.

How the blue and red switches differ
K1: blue tactile switches
Blue switches provide a noticeable bump during the key travel and an audible click. That feedback can make touch-typing feel deliberate and satisfying, so the K1 suits buyers who type frequently and enjoy a pronounced mechanical response. The sound can be disruptive in a shared room, office or streaming setup.
K2: red linear switches
Red switches move smoothly without the K1’s tactile bump. They are generally easier to operate repeatedly and produce less click noise, although a red mechanical switch is not automatically silent. The K2 is the more natural fit for gaming-focused users who prefer an uninterrupted key press.

Neither switch guarantees faster gaming or typing. Performance depends on the player, game, key layout and technique; the meaningful difference here is feel, feedback and noise.

Full-size 104-key layout
Both models include a conventional number pad alongside the navigation and function keys. That is useful for spreadsheets, productivity and games that use many bindings, but it occupies substantially more desk space than a TKL, 65% or 60% keyboard.

Lighting and anti-ghosting
Launch material reported more than 20 dynamic lighting modes. “Backlit”, “RGB” and “dynamic lighting” are used inconsistently in coverage, so do not assume software-controlled per-key RGB without checking the current manual or product page.
Anti-ghosting is intended to reduce lost inputs when several keys are pressed together. It should not be read as proof of full N-key rollover, since Portronics does not specify that capability in the launch information.

Construction, cable and angle adjustment
The keyboards use ABS bodies, a conventional plastic construction, and a reported 1.5-metre cable. Raised kickstands let you change the typing angle. There is no confirmed information in the launch material about a detachable USB-C cable, hot-swappable switches, dedicated media controls or configuration software.

Durability and warranty qualifications
Portronics associates the K1 with a 50-million-keystroke durability claim in its own maintenance article. That is a manufacturer claim, not an independent test, and it should not automatically be applied to the K2 unless the K2’s documentation says so. Real lifespan also depends on keycap wear, switch quality, dust, liquid exposure and cable strain. See the Portronics maintenance guidance.

Portronics says most products carry a one-year limited manufacturer warranty, subject to the individual product’s terms. Confirm the K1 or K2 warranty on its live product page or manual and retain the invoice. General policy details are available in the company’s warranty guidance.
What to check before buying
- Connectivity: both keyboards are wired USB; there is no confirmed Bluetooth or 2.4GHz wireless mode.
- Desk space: the 104-key format is large, especially with a mouse beside it.
- Noise: blue switches are distinctly clicky; red switches are quieter-feeling but not silent.
- Feature expectations: hot-swapping, macros, onboard profiles, per-key lighting software and dedicated media controls are not confirmed.
- Testing: launch information provides no independent latency, acoustics, switch-force or rollover measurements.
- Stock: verify the live seller listing, particularly for the K1, rather than relying on the 2024 launch announcement.
Which one should you buy?
Choose the K1 when
- You want a tactile bump and audible click.
- You type often and enjoy strong feedback.
- Your room can accommodate a louder keyboard.
- You need a full-size layout and number pad.
Choose the K2 when
- You prefer smooth linear presses.
- Gaming is the primary use.
- You want a less-clicky switch in a shared space.
- Wired-only operation and the full-size footprint are acceptable.
Consider another keyboard when
- You require Bluetooth or wireless 2.4GHz connectivity.
- You need a compact 60%, 65% or TKL design.
- You require silent operation, hot-swappable switches or verified software customisation.
For a complete keyboard-and-mouse setup, Portronics’ Ki Pad 5 is a different, non-mechanical combo. For wireless alternatives, the company’s gaming collection includes products such as Hydra 10, while the Key12 Combo targets wireless full-size productivity use; neither is a direct K1/K2 replacement.
Verdict
The K1 and K2 remain straightforward budget mechanical keyboards: choose the K1 for tactile, clicky feedback and the K2 for a smoother linear feel. Their shared strengths are the 104-key layout, wired simplicity, lighting effects and anti-ghosting. Before ordering in 2026, confirm live stock, price and warranty terms, especially for the K1, and buy based on switch preference rather than claims that one type is inherently faster.
