Omeda Studios published the patch notes on August 27, 2025; its overview announced a September 2 release. These are V1.8 launch details, not a guide to the game’s current mechanics or balance.
What was Predecessor V1.8?
V1.8 was a major update for the multiplayer action game Predecessor. Its headline additions were Akeron, a new playable hero, and World Shift: Cataclysm, which altered the battlefield during a match. The update also included a Battle Pass, ranked-season changes, map visual updates, new server and language support, NVIDIA DLSS 4 support, and gameplay fixes.
Omeda Studios’ official news listing later included V1.17: Bloodtide, dated September 22, 2026. V1.8 is therefore a historical update; its launch notes should not be treated as confirmation of today’s rules or hero balance. See the official Predecessor news listing.
How World Shift worked at V1.8 launch
Defeat the Shaper to trigger the transformation
At the 15-minute mark, the Seedling objective evolved into the Shaper. Defeating the Shaper for the first time triggered the World Shift. The patch notes also gave the Shaper a four-minute respawn; that timing is part of the V1.8 rules and is not verified here as a current value.

At launch, World Shift: Cataclysm was announced for Quick Match, Nitro, and Ranked. Omeda described it as the first dynamic mid-match map transformation in Predecessor.
Cataclysm changed routes and sightlines
Cataclysm brought meteors down across the map. An impact could knock nearby targets back and deal small damage based on their current health. Impacts could also leave jagged rock cover and obstacles, or break walls to open alternate paths. Geysers launched players upward to reach elevated areas.

Those effects made the objective consequential beyond its visual spectacle: new rocks, broken walls, and elevated routes could change chokepoints, lines of sight, flanking options, and how teams approached late-match fights. That describes the design at V1.8 launch, not a verified account of how the feature works now.
Who was Akeron?
Akeron was V1.8’s new hero. Omeda’s overview presented him as the Demon King and ruler of the Demon Realm, highlighting his ability to attack from walls and spider-like movement across terrain. The patch notes provide the more detailed ability and stat descriptions. Those launch materials establish his theme and kit features, but do not establish his present-day strength or role after later balance updates.

Other changes included in the update
Battle Pass and ranked split
The Wrath of the Ascended Battle Pass offered free and premium progression, cosmetics, and in-game currencies. The patch notes said it ran from September 2 through November 25, 2025. Ranked Split 1 ended and Split 2 began, with a rank reset and seasonal rewards.

Localization, servers, graphics, and fixes
- Japanese localization and a dedicated Japan server were added.
- A MENA server was added.
- NVIDIA DLSS 4 support was included.
- The update brought map visual work along with gameplay changes and bug fixes.
