Where to find Prince of Death’s Staff
In Deeproot Depths, start at the Nameless Eternal City Site of Grace. Run northeast along the roots to reach the top of a building; the staff is there. The location and route are documented in Eldenpedia’s item reference.

The reference lists these base properties; scaling grades describe the weapon’s listed attribute scaling, not a guarantee of strong spell scaling at low attributes. Its unusual Intelligence-and-Faith profile is the central build consideration.
What the staff does for Death Sorceries
The in-game description says: “Staff embedded with sullied amber, said to be a very part of the Prince of Death. Enhances death sorceries. One of the staves deemed heretical by the academy for its ability to allow sorceries to be augmented through faith in addition to intelligence.”

Eldenpedia’s item reference says the staff increases the attack power of most Death Sorceries by 10%. It reports a 21% effect when one copy is held in each hand, and says the bonus can also apply when casting with another staff while holding Prince of Death’s Staff in the other hand. The reference lists Rings of Spectral Light, Mass of Putrescence, and Vortex of Putrescence as exceptions; these mechanics and exceptions are community-reference claims, not independently tested here.
How Intelligence and Faith affect its scaling
Both Intelligence and Faith contribute to the staff’s sorcery scaling, so meeting the 18/18 minimum is enough to wield it but not enough to realize its high-end potential. Eldenpedia lists these Sorcery Scaling values at maximum upgrade:

These are maximum-upgrade reference figures, not independent measurements. The contrast between 80/80 and 80/18 (or 18/80) illustrates why a one-sided stat spread gives up much of the staff’s hybrid scaling.
Is Prince of Death’s Staff worth using?
It is most compelling for a character already investing heavily in both Intelligence and Faith, especially one that regularly casts Death Sorceries. It is less attractive when most points go into only one of those stats or when the build needs a general-purpose catalyst without a high hybrid-stat investment.

Eldenpedia’s comparisons suggest that the staff can surpass Lusat’s Glintstone Staff only at very high levels in both Intelligence and Faith, and can become preferable to Gelmir Glintstone Staff when both attributes exceed 50. Those are community-wiki comparisons dependent on stat allocation and upgrade conditions, not an unconditional ranking.
How the Shadow of the Erdtree staff changes the comparison
With Shadow of the Erdtree, players can also consider Staff of the Great Beyond. Eldenpedia’s comparison says it can exceed Prince of Death’s Staff at Intelligence and Faith values up to 60, while Prince of Death’s Staff scales higher beyond 60 in both attributes. The DLC staff’s availability and its requirements matter, so this comparison does not apply to a player without the expansion or one unable to meet those requirements. Version 1.12 change
Bandai Namco Europe’s Elden Ring Version 1.12 patch notes, published June 19, 2024 and updated June 24, 2024, state under Armament Adjustments that Prince of Death’s Staff had its “attribute scaling” increased. The note gives no numerical amount, so it does not establish a before-and-after scaling value.
