A UPS can bridge a short interruption; an inverter and battery may be more suitable for longer cuts if they are sized for the actual load. If fixed broadband also fails, a battery-powered mobile hotspot may provide another internet path—but only where coverage and upload performance are adequate. None of these options guarantees that PRISM or YouTube will resume the broadcast automatically.
Find out what failed first
A stream can stop because the streaming device lost power, the network equipment went offline, or the internet connection became unstable. These are separate failure points: restoring power to a computer will not bring the stream back if the router or broadband connection is still down.
- Check the streaming device. Is the phone, PC, or other device running PRISM powered on and transmitting?
- Check the network equipment. Confirm the router and, where applicable, modem or ONT are powered and have reconnected.
- Check internet access. If equipment is online, test whether the connection is working and whether upload performance is sufficient for your stream.
- Check YouTube from another device. Confirm whether the live broadcast is still active before assuming PRISM has resumed or starting a replacement stream.
PRISM Live Studio Help Center says its desktop “Disconnected from server” issue is usually caused by network instability. Its troubleshooting guidance also identifies insufficient upload speed, weak Wi-Fi, and security software as possible causes. Choose backup power for the complete setup
A backup helps only if it can power every device that must stay on. Include the PRISM-running phone or computer, router, and modem or ONT—not just the computer. The runtime depends on the equipment and actual load, so check the devices’ specifications and test the setup rather than relying on a generic duration claim.

Before relying on either option for a live event, test that it powers the full chain and that the devices remain connected when mains power is interrupted. Do not assume a UPS intended for a router can also run a desktop streaming computer.
Keep an alternate internet path available
A battery-powered mobile hotspot can help if fixed broadband fails but mobile service remains available. It does not power a separate streaming PC or phone; those still need their own backup. Jio’s support material describes JioFi operation using an activated Jio SIM and battery, with Wi-Fi devices connecting to its network. - Check cellular coverage where the stream will run, including during the hours you expect to go live.
- Test actual upload performance and stability at busy times; a signal indicator alone does not establish that a live stream will hold.
- Check your data allowance, hotspot battery runtime, and that the streaming device can connect to it.
- Try switching to the hotspot before an event so you know how your setup behaves.
Adjust PRISM settings only when a connection still exists
Lowering resolution may help when the mobile or broadband connection is weak but still working. PRISM’s “Streaming Is Not Working” guidance recommends checking network conditions, lowering resolution when bandwidth is inadequate, and leaving its Adaptive option enabled. PRISM describes an error after a connection is lost for more than 10 minutes; treat that as product troubleshooting guidance, not a universal YouTube recovery timer. For desktop streaming, use wired LAN when practical, as PRISM recommends. If you are in India and encounter PRISM’s specific YouTube RTMP “Failed to connect to the server” error, its guidance says to set IP Family to IPv4 Only and enable network optimizations. Recover the broadcast after a cut
- Restore power to the streaming device and all required network equipment.
- Wait for the internet connection to return, then open PRISM and check its connection state.
- Use another device to check the YouTube channel and see whether the original broadcast is still live or has ended.
- If YouTube shows that the broadcast stopped, restart it in PRISM and verify from the separate device that viewers can see the new live broadcast.
- If it disconnects again, identify whether the device, network equipment, or internet path failed, then address that part of the chain before trying again.
For mobile streams, PRISM says persistent transmission loss can cause a broadcast to terminate, and the platform may report that a stream has stopped. Its guidance notes that platform criteria differ and can change. Check the actual YouTube broadcast rather than assuming that power restoration restarted it. PRISM Live Studio Help Center
