PrizePicks announced The Esports Lab on June 11, 2024, as a web destination intended to help fantasy sports fans learn how to follow esports and assess player performance. Its launch description combined beginner-oriented educational material with statistics and live matches. The announcement documented a 2024 launch and roadmap; it does not establish whether the Lab is available today or what it currently supports.
What The Esports Lab offered at launch
PrizePicks described The Esports Lab as a place to find statistics, live matches and educational resources around recognized esports tournaments. Its announced launch games were Counter-Strike 2 (CS2), League of Legends and Dota 2. PrizePicks said it planned to add more games during 2024, but that plan does not confirm which titles, if any, were later added. The company said the web experience worked on desktop and mobile browsers; iOS and Android apps were planned, not confirmed as released. PrizePicks’ June 11, 2024 announcement
GamesBeat’s launch coverage described embedded live matches, live stats, introductory explanations of game rules and basic guidance on evaluating player performance. It also reported that the Lab showed a player’s hit rate over their five most recent matches. These are launch-era descriptions, not a verified account of the product’s present features. How the Lab was meant to ease newcomers into esports fantasy
The intended user was a traditional fantasy sports fan curious about esports but unsure how to follow a match or judge a player’s performance. PrizePicks Senior Director of Esports Adam Boothe told GamesBeat that even people familiar with a game can find fantasy formats around it intimidating. The article framed the Lab as an onboarding effort for PrizePicks’ existing fantasy audience, rather than a specialist statistics service.

- Comfort is King: Comfort’s in the Cloud III’s DNA. Built for gamers who can’t have an uncomfortable headset ruin the flow of their full-combo, disrupt their speedrun, or knocking them out of the zone.
- Audio Tuned for Your Entertainment: Angled 53mm drivers have been tuned by HyperX audio engineers to provide the optimal listening experience that accents the dynamic sounds of gaming.
- Upgraded Microphone for Clarity and Accuracy: Captures high-quality audio for clear voice chat and calls. The mic is noise-cancelling and features a built-in mesh filter to omit disruptive sounds and LED mic mute indicator lets you know when you’re muted.
- Durability, for the Toughest of Battles: The headset is flexible and features an aluminum frame so it’s resilient against travel, accidents, mishaps, and your ‘level-headed’ reactions to losses and defeat screens.
That onboarding challenge can start before a fantasy pick: a new viewer needs to find the match. Boothe pointed to the practical question, “where can I watch?” A fan might know Twitch exists and still have trouble locating a specific tier-two Counter-Strike broadcast. The Lab’s combination of match access, stats and introductory explanations was presented as a way to make those first steps easier.
GamesBeat reported that the launch-era fantasy interface let users draft lineups of at least two players and predict whether a player would finish over or under a statistical projection, typically for kills. Those mechanics describe the experience at launch; they should not be treated as a guide to PrizePicks’ current interface or offerings. Boothe characterized the audience as “tech-comfortable, gaming-comfortable, has sports fandom, likes fantasy, but that esports thing is intimidating.” GamesBeat’s interview and launch coverage

What PrizePicks reported about esports interest
PrizePicks used its own platform figures to explain why it launched the tool. These are company-reported numbers, not independent estimates of the wider esports market:
- PrizePicks said more than 1 million of its members had built an esports lineup by June 11, 2024.
- The company reported that its esports entry fees rose by more than 110% from 2022 to 2023.
- PrizePicks said Counter-Strike ranked fourth among sports on its platform for 2023 entry fees and lineups built, behind professional basketball, football and baseball.
PrizePicks co-founder and CEO Adam Wexler called the Lab “truly a first-of-its-kind product innovation.” That is the company’s characterization, not an independently verified market-wide assessment. PrizePicks’ launch announcement
