Project Afterfall is scheduled to leave Early Access and launch Version 1.0 on November 3, 2026. As of October 3, Steam still lists the PC game as Early Access. The developer also warns that existing saves will break when the update arrives.

When does Project Afterfall leave Early Access?

The planned Version 1.0 release date is November 3, 2026. The Steam store listing gives that date for leaving Early Access, and the developer’s September 2026 announcement says, “Project Afterfall launches into Version 1.0 on November 3rd!” RPGamer also reported the date on October 2, 2026 (RPGamer’s report).

Because November 3 has not arrived as of October 3, this is a scheduled release, not a completed launch. Steam’s current Early Access label and release timing can change, so check the store listing for the latest status.

What kind of game is Project Afterfall?

Project Afterfall is a dark, turn-based strategy-survival RPG from MuHa Games, set in a retro-futuristic urban-fantasy world shaped by Slavic folklore. It is a spin-off in the Thea universe, set a thousand years after Thea: The Awakening and Thea 2: The Shattering, in a different, urban age. The Steam listing and MuHa Games’ official game page describe its mix of exploration, survival and RPG systems.

Players create a hero, recruit non-player characters, explore wastelands, gather resources and rebuild a colony. The game also includes crafting, branching narrative, character progression and card-based tactical combat. Steam lists single-player and online co-op for PC; the cited materials do not establish a console release.

What is changing in the final Early Access update and Version 1.0?

The developer calls Update 9 the final Early Access update. Its announcement describes changes to the card and deck systems, including simplified mechanics, new effects and a larger card selection. It also lists 41 Steam achievements, Steam Cloud Saves, new graphics settings, improved quest tracking, fixes and other quality-of-life improvements.

Those Update 9 details should not be confused with the separate plans for the Version 1.0 Gold build. The developer says Gold will add a refreshed tutorial, further quality-of-life improvements and final polish. The announcement does not provide a complete feature-by-feature comparison between the current build and the planned launch version, so it does not establish that every planned improvement will be present at launch.

Will an Early Access save work after the update?

No. The developer’s Update 9 announcement warns: “Please Note: Old saves will break!” If you have a run you want to finish, the announcement-era instructions say to use Steam’s Properties → Betas menu and select the top branch to continue on the previous version. Treat those steps as guidance from that announcement; check Steam and the game’s current announcement for the applicable branch and instructions before changing versions.

Should you play now or wait for Version 1.0?

The choice depends on whether you are comfortable starting over and which announced changes matter to you:

Quick Recap

Bestseller No. 1
  • Play during Early Access if you want to try the game before the planned launch and accept that old saves will break with the update.
  • Wait for Version 1.0 if you would rather begin after the planned launch or want to see the refreshed tutorial and final polish in the Gold build.
  • Consider the combat changes if the revised card and deck systems are a major draw; those changes are described as part of Update 9, the final Early Access update.
  • Check the co-op details if you plan to play with someone else. Steam lists online co-op, but the cited sources do not establish more specific co-op requirements or limits.
