If YouTube suddenly signs you out on a PS4 and the console shows NP-37602-8, the code means that PlayStation could not link the console service with YouTube. It does not, by itself, show that your PS4 hardware or Google password is defective. The widely reported incident occurred on May 29, 2020; a current outage should only be declared when PlayStation, YouTube or a reliable status report confirms one.
What NP-37602-8 means
Sony defines NP-37602-8 as “An error occurred when linking accounts” and lists YouTube as an example of an affected linked service. You may see a forced logout, a failed Sign in selection, or an app that works while signed out but cannot attach your Google account. YouTube can still work on a phone or computer, and other devices on the same home network may continue streaming normally.
The error therefore points first to the connection between PlayStation Network, the PS4 app and YouTube—not automatically to incorrect credentials. See Sony’s current guidance at the NP-37602-8 support page.
First decide whether it is an outage or a local problem
Do not repeatedly enter your password before checking the services involved.

Check the PlayStation status information and YouTube’s service status before changing account settings. If many users report the same failure, waiting for service recovery is more sensible than factory-resetting the console.
Official fixes, in the order Sony recommends
1. Restart the PS4
Power the console off normally, start it again, open YouTube and retry sign-in. Restarting is Sony’s first local remedy for NP-37602-8.
2. Unlink YouTube from the PS4
- Open Settings.
- Select Account Management.
- Select Link with Other Services.
- Select YouTube.
- Choose Unlink Account.
These labels are documented in Sony’s PS4 YouTube setup instructions. Unlinking removes the console’s service association; it does not delete your Google account, YouTube channel, subscriptions or videos.

3. Restart the router
Turn the router off, wait at least five minutes, then turn it on and wait until internet service is fully restored. The five-minute interval is part of Sony’s NP-37602-8 procedure.

4. Relink and sign in again
Reopen YouTube, select Sign in and choose the Google account used for your YouTube profile. Use either the phone activation flow or the on-screen remote method described in the next section.
5. Test another account
If another Google account is available, try linking it. A second account can show whether the fault follows one account association or affects the console/service connection generally. Sony lists this test in its official error guidance.
Use YouTube’s alternate sign-in method
YouTube supports two sign-in routes on TV and game-console apps:

- Remote: use the PS4’s on-screen keyboard to enter the Google-account details.
If one route fails, switch to the other. For phone activation, keep the phone and PS4 on the same Wi-Fi network when the flow requires local communication. Temporarily disable mobile data if the phone is silently using cellular service, verify every character of the code, and restart the phone or router if pairing stalls. Follow YouTube’s published instructions at its TV and game-console sign-in page.

Only use the QR flow or yt.be/activate presented by YouTube. Never enter Google credentials on an unofficial activation site, share an activation code, install modified PS4 packages or give remote access to a supposed support service.
Update or reinstall the app only when the app itself is the problem
Check for an update
Highlight YouTube on the PS4 home screen, press the OPTIONS button and select Check for Updates. Sony documents this path on its PS4 YouTube page. An update can help a broken local installation, but it is not a guaranteed cure for a server-side linking outage.
Reinstall a missing or corrupted app
- Open the PlayStation Store.
- Search for YouTube.
- Choose the YouTube app from the app results.
- Select Download, then launch it and sign in.
These are YouTube’s current PlayStation installation steps: YouTube installation help. Reinstallation is aimed at an app that will not launch or appears damaged; it is not Sony’s primary NP-37602-8 remedy.
Important account-linking distinctions
Three operations are often confused:
- PlayStation Settings > Account Management > Link with Other Services: manages a service association such as YouTube.
- YouTube app > Sign in: authenticates the viewing app and loads subscriptions, recommendations and Library data.
- Google/PlayStation linking for broadcasting or sharing gameplay: does not automatically sign you into the YouTube app. YouTube explicitly documents this distinction at its PlayStation account-linking help page.
Changing a Google password is warranted only when that account also fails to authenticate on other devices. It is not an evidence-based first response to a console-only NP-37602-8 error.

What to do in specific failure cases
The PS4 has no other online connectivity
Run the PS4 internet-connection test, check PlayStation Network status, restart the router and try another network such as a phone hotspot if practical. A general network error is not interchangeable with NP-37602-8.
Phone activation will not complete
Confirm the code, use the same Wi-Fi network, disable mobile data temporarily and switch to remote sign-in. YouTube recommends trying the alternate method when one fails.
YouTube signs in but playback fails
Separate account authentication from video loading. Possible causes include a YouTube outage, network throughput or DNS trouble, app state, or restrictions on particular content. NP-37602-8 does not diagnose these conditions.
The app is unavailable
Reinstall it from the PlayStation Store. YouTube’s supported-device list includes both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 4 Pro, so the app’s availability is not evidence that PS4 support has ended.

Can you watch YouTube without signing in?
Usually, yes. If the app loads, signed-out or guest viewing can play videos while the account link is unavailable. You will not have account-specific subscriptions, personalized recommendations, paid content access or Library data until sign-in works again.
Was there a real PS4 YouTube outage?
Yes. On May 29, 2020, multiple users reported sudden YouTube logouts and NP-37602-8 failures on PS4. Contemporary coverage said PlayStation acknowledged a problem signing in through the YouTube application and was investigating recovery. The reports describe a service connection problem between PlayStation and YouTube, not proof that affected users had defective hardware or invalid Google passwords. That historical event does not establish that the same outage is active now. Treat a current failure as an incident only when a dated PlayStation, YouTube or service-status notice supports it. Otherwise, use the diagnostic branches above.
When to contact PlayStation Support
Contact PlayStation Support after checking service status, restarting the PS4 and router, unlinking and relinking YouTube, trying both sign-in methods and testing another account where possible. Include the exact error code, the time it occurred, whether other PS4 services work and whether YouTube works on other devices. Do not factory-reset the PS4 solely because NP-37602-8 appears.
Separate sign-in from 4K playback requirements
PS4 Pro and a 4K display are relevant to 4K playback, not account authentication. Sony lists a supported PS4 Pro or PS5, a 4K display and a steady connection of at least 25 Mbps for that playback scenario. Those requirements cannot explain an NP-37602-8 linking failure.
The Bottom Line
For NP-37602-8, check service status first, restart the PS4, unlink YouTube under Settings > Account Management > Link with Other Services, restart the router for at least five minutes, then relink using the QR/activation or remote method. If the same failure affects many users, waiting for the service-side fix is safer than changing passwords or resetting the console.
