KytyPS5 says it can boot a selection of 3D games; SharpEmu remains experimental, and reported demonstrations range from games reaching menus to a Steam Deck running at about 0.5–1 FPS. Those are very different outcomes from stable, playable performance.
Can you play PS5 games on PC now?
Some emulators can boot or partially run selected PS5 games, but the available evidence does not establish a dependable way to play the PS5 library on a PC. Compatibility varies by emulator, game, build, operating system, and graphics driver. A project’s capability statement is not the same as an independently verified compatibility result.
It helps to distinguish three milestones:
- Boots: The game starts or its executable launches. It may stop at a loading screen or fail before reaching gameplay.
- Reaches in-game: Gameplay becomes visible, but bugs, crashes, missing graphics, or severe slowdown may make the game unusable.
- Playable: The game runs reliably enough, with usable performance and no blocking defects. A brief demonstration alone does not establish this.
What PS5 emulator actually works?
There is no well-supported single “best” emulator verdict here: the projects describe different stages of development, and their claims should not be treated as equivalent.

SharpEmu warns that sharpemu.app and links listed there are its official channels; it says other websites, accounts, and donation pages are unauthorized. Check the project’s own repository or official channels for current builds and compatibility information rather than relying on a third-party download page.

Is PS5 emulation playable yet?
Recent reports show progress, but each result needs its own context. Neither a developer’s test count nor a high frame-rate clip proves broad compatibility.
SharpEmu’s reported game tests
GamesRadar reported on September 28, 2026, that a SharpEmu developer said 12 of 55 tested games reached in-game and six were fully playable at 60 FPS. These are developer-reported results relayed by GamesRadar, not an independently reproduced benchmark or a representative rate for the PS5 library. The same report noted bugs, visual glitches, and performance issues, and said neither SharpEmu nor KytyPS5 was then a truly viable way to play PS5 games.

KytyPS5 and Demon’s Souls
GamesRadar also relayed videos of Demon’s Souls running at 40–50 FPS on KytyPS5 with an RTX 5090 and Intel Core i9-14900K. That is user-video reporting on unusually high-end hardware, and the reported rate remained below the game’s 60 FPS performance mode. It is not a general PC performance estimate. GamesRadar’s report
Can a Steam Deck run PS5 emulation?
A Steam Deck demonstration shows that an emulator can attempt to run a PS5 game on the handheld, not that the Deck can play PS5 games at a useful speed. Tom’s Hardware reported on August 13, 2026, that Astro’s Playroom reached the PlayStation Studios loading screen in SharpEmu at about 0.5–1 FPS. What PC do you need for a PS5 emulator?
SharpEmu says it requires a Vulkan-capable GPU and a current graphics driver. KytyPS5 documents Vulkan runtime support, but the project materials do not establish a particular consumer graphics card, processor, or complete PC specification as sufficient for stable, playable commercial games. Hardware that meets a stated requirement may still encounter game-specific compatibility or performance problems.
If you are experimenting, a Vulkan-capable gaming PC or graphics card is a task-enabling category, not a guarantee of compatibility. The current evidence does not support buying a specific upgrade as a reliable fix for a given game.

What should you know about game files and legality?
KytyPS5 says it does not distribute games or copyrighted system software and directs users to use legally obtained game files. That project statement does not settle whether a particular firmware acquisition, circumvention step, or game copy is lawful.
Sony’s U.S. Product Software License Agreement defines software to include system software and firmware, reserves intellectual-property rights, and lists restrictions that include specified copying, reverse engineering, circumvention, and unauthorized uses. It is a U.S.-focused agreement; applicable contract terms and laws differ by location.

U.S. Copyright Office regulations provide narrow exemptions for video games in defined preservation settings, subject to conditions for eligible libraries, archives, or museums. Those provisions are not a general personal game-dumping exemption. The regulation does not establish a universal rule for every personal-use scenario or jurisdiction. Do not assume that owning a disc makes any copy lawful, or that every emulator-related activity is automatically legal.
