It is normally an account-authentication problem, not a defective PS5. Check the correct Sign-In ID (the account email address) and password, test them in PlayStation Account Management, then recover the account or contact Sony Support if access still fails.
What NP-102955-2 means
Sony lists NP-102955-2 in its PS5 error directory with the message The account information is incorrect.
Sony’s error-specific guidance says the information entered may differ from the account registered on the console and tells you to verify the Sign-In ID and password.
That wording does not prove that the password alone is wrong. The mismatch could involve the email address, a different account selected on the PS5, an email address changed recently, or an account-access or security problem. Know which PlayStation detail you need

Sony explains the Sign-In ID and other connection details at PlayStation connectivity support. If a parent created the account, it may use the parent’s email; a family member’s Online ID is not necessarily the account’s Sign-In ID.

Try these fixes in order
1. Confirm the intended account
- Check that you are using the correct PS5 user profile and intended PlayStation account.
- Look for spelling errors, extra spaces, or an older email address.
- If the Sign-In ID was changed recently, use the new email address. Changing it signs the account out of devices, so the PS5 must be signed in again with the new address.
- Do not use another household member’s account unless that is the account you intend to access.
These are practical checks based on Sony’s instruction to verify the account registered on the console; they are possibilities, not separate error codes.
2. Re-enter the password manually
Type the password instead of trusting a saved or autofilled value. Check capitalization and characters that are easy to confuse. Avoid repeated guesses if you are unsure, because recovery is safer than locking yourself out or overlooking an account change.

3. Test the credentials in a browser
- Open PlayStation Account Management in a browser.
- Try signing in with the same email address and password.
- Use the result to choose the next branch.

4. Reset the password if necessary
On the PS5, Sony’s current US path is Settings > Users and Accounts > Account > Sign In, followed by the on-screen recovery instructions. Menu wording can vary slightly by region or system-software version. Details are in Sony’s password-reset instructions.
Online, select Trouble Signing in?, then Recover Your Account or the password-recovery option. Enter the Sign-In ID, open Sony’s verification email, and create a new password. Delivery can take a few minutes; check spam or junk folders. After changing it, return to the PS5 and enter the new password manually rather than relying on an old autofill entry.

5. Restart and retry when the account works online
- Sign out of the affected PS5 user profile if the console allows it.
- Restart the PS5.
- Open Settings > Users and Accounts > Account > Sign In.
- Enter the verified email address and password manually.
- Check the official PlayStation Status page.
Status is time-sensitive: a page viewed on one date cannot establish whether PSN is unavailable when you see the error. A router restart is reasonable only when you also have broader connection symptoms; it is not Sony’s primary fix for this account-information code. Sony’s general connection guidance, including network checks, is separate from NP-102955-2 troubleshooting.
6. Update the PS5 only as a general sign-in check
If the console is behind on system software or showing other connection errors, check Settings > System > System Software > System Software Update and Settings. Updating can address general console issues, but Sony does not identify it as the specific remedy for NP-102955-2.

If you cannot access the account
Use Sony’s account-recovery guidance when a reset email never arrives, the original email address is forgotten, or you no longer control that mailbox. Sony directs users in those situations to its Online Assistant and Support rather than offering a console-side workaround.
Signs the account may have been compromised
- The Sign-In ID, password, or Online ID changed without your permission.
- You received a password-reset message you did not request.
- You see unfamiliar sign-ins or purchases.
- An email address you recognize no longer works for the account.
Those signs can indicate an account-security incident, not merely a typing error. Contact Sony through its official recovery pages immediately. Never give passwords, verification codes, backup codes, or payment details to an unofficial “recovery” service. After access is restored, use a strong unique password and consider a passkey or two-step verification; Sony’s account hub documents available sign-in and recovery options.

Child and family accounts
A child account’s password reset may need to be completed by the family manager. Follow the family-manager process in Sony’s password-reset support.
Passkey users
If you normally use a passkey, choose the option to sign in another way or follow Sony’s passkey-recovery path. Passkeys are an optional sign-in method, not a required NP-102955-2 fix.
What this code does not establish
- It does not by itself prove a suspension. Sony lists suspension-related codes separately in its PS5 error directory. Follow suspension guidance only if Sony sent a suspension notice or the console shows a separate suspension code.
- It does not point to a hardware failure. If another account can sign in while one account cannot, that pattern suggests an account-specific issue, although it is an inference rather than a Sony diagnosis.
- It does not justify destructive repairs. Sony’s NP-102955-2 page does not recommend changing DNS, rebuilding the database, restoring licenses, deleting the PS5 user, reinstalling system software, or factory-resetting the console.
Do not create a replacement account as a first response. A new account will not restore the original account’s purchases, trophies, subscriptions, saves, friends, or entitlements.
When to contact PlayStation Support
Stop local troubleshooting and use Sony’s PlayStation Support contact guide when:
- Browser sign-in and recovery both fail.
- You cannot access the account email or have forgotten the Sign-In ID.
- The password-reset email does not arrive after checking the address and spam folder.
- You see an unrecognized email, Online ID, password change, purchase, or sign-in.
- You received a suspension notice or suspect another account restriction.
- The password reset succeeds, but the PS5 still shows NP-102955-2 after a restart and manual re-entry.
Have your Online ID, possible Sign-In ID addresses, and any account details Sony requests ready. Provide sensitive information only through Sony’s official support channel.
