If a PS5 game will not download or install, start with the least disruptive checks: pause and resume the download, check PlayStation Network status and your internet connection, then confirm you have enough storage. A locked or missing game may instead point to an account, purchase, subscription, or license issue. Work through the steps below in order; use Safe Mode only if simpler checks do not resolve the problem.
First, tell a stalled download from one that never started
Open Downloads/Uploads from the PS5 Control Center and find the game. If it is queued or has not begun, select it and choose Pause, then Resume. If that does not help, cancel and delete that queued item, then open Game Library and try downloading the game again. Deleting the queued download is different from deleting an installed game.

If the download began but stopped progressing, check the PlayStation Network status and the console’s connection before removing or reinstalling anything. A service interruption and a local internet problem are separate possible causes. PlayStation’s game-download troubleshooting guide covers these checks.
Check PlayStation Network and the PS5’s connection
Look for a PlayStation service alert
Check the PlayStation Network status page. If it reports an alert affecting the relevant service, wait for service to recover and try again. Repeatedly deleting or reinstalling the game is unlikely to help while the service is unavailable.

Test the console’s internet connection
On the PS5, go to Settings > Network > Connection Status and test the internet connection. If the test or connection fails, follow PlayStation’s connection troubleshooting guidance before retrying the download.
Confirm there is enough storage for the game
A download or installation can fail when the console does not have the space the title requires. In Game Library, highlight the game, open its options menu, and choose View Product to check the stated minimum free-space requirement. Then compare it with the available space under Settings > Storage. If space is short, remove unneeded games or apps, or manage other stored content, and try again.

If you need more capacity, an M.2 SSD is an optional expansion for PS5 game and app data, not a fix for a network, service, or account problem. Check Sony’s M.2 SSD installation and compatibility guidance before buying or installing a drive.
Install the latest PS5 system software
Check for a console update at Settings > System > System Software > System Software Update and Settings. Install an available update, then retry the game download or installation.

If the game is locked or missing, check access and licenses
A game that appears with a lock icon or is missing from the expected library may not have a download-system fault. Check the account and entitlement that provide access:
- Confirm that the signed-in account is the one that bought the game and that the transaction completed successfully.
- For a PlayStation Plus game, confirm the subscription is active and the title is still available to you through the applicable catalog or benefit.
- If another account owns the game, check that Console Sharing and Offline Play is enabled on this PS5 for that account.
- For a relevant license issue, restore licenses using Sony’s Restore Licenses instructions.
Use the displayed error code to narrow the cause
When an error code appears, look up that exact code in PlayStation’s PS5 error-code index. For example, Sony lists CE-107928-7 as an error that stopped a game from downloading on a PS5. The code-specific guidance may be more relevant than repeating general download steps.

Try Safe Mode only if the simpler checks fail
For persistent download trouble, PlayStation’s guide directs users to Safe Mode and the Clear Cache and Rebuild Database option. Follow Sony’s current Safe Mode instructions and choose the appropriate option there. Rebuilding the database is a troubleshooting step, not a guaranteed fix.

If the game still will not download or install after the relevant checks, contact PlayStation Support. Include the error code or message, what you were doing when it appeared, the steps that reproduce it, when you last tried, and a screenshot or video if possible. Those details help support distinguish a service, connection, storage, software, or access problem.
