In the U.S., Sony’s recommended prices are $649.99 for PS5, $599.99 for PS5 Digital Edition, and $899.99 for PS5 Pro. Sony cited continued global economic pressure, but did not specifically say tariffs caused the increase.

Is Sony raising PS5 prices because of tariffs?
Sony has not publicly identified tariffs as the specific cause. In its March 27 announcement, Isabelle Tomatis, Sony Interactive Entertainment’s vice president of global marketing, said the decision followed “continued pressures in the global economic landscape.” The company did not quantify how much any particular cost or policy contributed.

The Associated Press reported the increase amid U.S. tariffs and other economic pressures, while noting that Sony did not specifically cite tariffs. Tariffs are therefore relevant context, not a confirmed explanation from Sony. AP’s coverage distinguishes the broader setting from the company’s stated reason.
What has Sony said about other cost pressures?
In a separate investor-relations Q&A, Sony said rising memory prices increase bill-of-materials costs and worsen manufacturing costs. It also said it had secured the memory volumes needed for 2026, with pricing agreed to a certain extent, and would balance hardware pricing and promotional spending as memory prices change. This is documented component-cost context, but Sony did not present it as a specific breakdown of the April 2026 increase.
