In the US PlayStation Direct listings checked October 3, 2026, the Pro costs $899, compared with $649 for the base disc PS5 and $599 for the Digital Edition. Pro enhancements vary by game, so check support for the games you actually play.
What each PS5 costs and includes in the US
Sony’s US direct-store listings accessed October 3, 2026 show a $250 difference between the PS5 Pro and the base disc PS5, and a $300 difference between the Pro and the Digital Edition. These are store prices, not guaranteed prices at every retailer or in every region; listings and availability can change.

What the PS5 Pro adds—and what it does not
Sony highlights three Pro features: PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR), optimized console performance, and advanced ray tracing. In supported games, these can help deliver sharper image output or combine higher visual quality with higher or steadier frame rates. Sony describes compatible titles as capable of 60 fps or up to 120 fps with ray tracing and PSSR-enhanced 4K output, subject to the game and display conditions. Sony’s US feature page listed more than 100 PS5 titles enhanced for Pro when accessed October 3, 2026. The catalogue can change, and the existence or extent of an uplift depends on the title. Which console fits your games, display, and budget?
Choose the base disc PS5 for value and physical games
The base disc PS5 costs less than the Pro in Sony’s current US store snapshot and includes a disc drive. It is the straightforward fit if you buy, borrow, or already own physical PS5 games, or watch movies on disc, and do not consider the Pro’s supported-game enhancements worth the premium.

Choose the Digital Edition for a lower-priced digital setup
The Digital Edition is the lowest-priced listed option here and suits players who download their games and do not need a disc drive. Sony says a drive can be added to specified slim Digital Edition model groups; check the exact console model and accessory compatibility before buying one. Sony’s Disc Drive compatibility information
Choose the Pro for supported-game enhancements and more built-in storage
The Pro is most compelling if several games you play are Pro-enhanced, you care about their image quality or frame-rate options, and you are comfortable with the $899 US direct-store price. Its listed 2 TB capacity is also larger than the base disc PS5’s 1 TB and Digital Edition’s 825 GB, which may be useful if you keep many games installed. Storage alone does not make the Pro the better value for every player.

Consider the screen and the settings you use
The benefit you notice depends on whether the games you play support Pro features and whether your display and selected game settings can show them. If you prefer a game’s performance mode over its visual-quality mode, compare the Pro enhancements available for that specific title; the console’s general feature list cannot predict your preferred result.
Disc users: include the Pro’s separate drive in the comparison
The PS5 Pro is sold without a disc drive. Sony’s removable Disc Drive is compatible with PS5 Pro, but it is a separate purchase, so physical-media buyers should compare the complete Pro setup cost with the base disc PS5 before deciding. Sony says the drive supports PS5 and supported PS4 game discs, as well as 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray, Blu-ray, and DVD discs. Internet access is required to pair it during setup. PS5 and PS4 game compatibility
Sony says PS5 Pro plays all PS5 games and more than 8,500 PS4 games. Its US store listing notes a small number of PS4 games are incompatible, so do not treat that figure as a promise that every PS4 title works. The Pro uses the DualSense wireless controller. Sony’s PS5 Pro store listing
A quick decision checklist
- Base disc PS5: Prioritize a lower price than the Pro and an included drive for physical games or movies.
- Digital Edition: Buy digitally and want the lowest listed console price, with no drive needed as sold.
- PS5 Pro: Your games have Pro enhancements you value, the price premium is acceptable, and the larger listed SSD capacity is useful.
- Pro plus Disc Drive: You want Pro features but also need physical media; account for the separately sold drive and verify compatibility.
The choice turns on the games you play, your display and visual priorities, disc use, storage needs, and budget—not just the Pro’s specification list.
