Yes—the feature is real and available. Sony’s PS5 system-software rollout, which began globally on September 17, 2025, lets a DualSense or DualSense Edge store up to four Bluetooth device pairings. It does not maintain four active connections or control four devices simultaneously; you select a saved slot whenever you switch.
The feature is most useful if you regularly move one controller between a PS5, Windows PC, Mac, phone, tablet, Apple TV, or another supported device.
What changed
Before this update, moving a DualSense from a PS5 to a computer or mobile device usually meant opening Bluetooth settings and pairing it again. Current controller software adds four user-assigned memory slots. Once a device is registered to a slot, you can return to it with a button shortcut instead of repeating the full pairing process.

Sony announced the function in a beta preview on July 23, 2025, then said the public PS5 update would begin rolling out globally on September 17, 2025. It is a released feature, not an upcoming beta capability. See Sony’s announcement and rollout update.

A PS4 or PS5 console with a wired connection via a LAN cable is recommended. Version 4.0 of the Remote Play App on iOS and iPadOS or version 4.1 on macOS is required for games to be playable with the controller over Bluetooth.
Supported controllers and devices
The feature applies to the DualSense wireless controller and DualSense Edge wireless controller. Sony does not list DUALSHOCK 4, PlayStation VR2 Sense, or Access controllers as supported by this four-slot system.
Supported device categories include PS5, PS5 Pro, compatible Windows PCs, Macs, iPhones, iPads, Apple TV devices, Android devices, and other Bluetooth-capable products. Sony’s current compatibility guidance lists these minimum operating systems:

Connection support is not the same as full feature parity. Haptic feedback depends on game support and may require USB on PC. Sony says the built-in microphone and speaker work on supported Windows games but are not compatible with Mac or mobile devices. The headset jack requires a wired connection on PC and Mac and is not compatible with mobile devices. Check Sony’s Bluetooth compatibility page for current details.
Prepare the controller
- Update the PS5 system software.
- Update the controller device software.
- Turn on Bluetooth on the device you want to register.
- Disconnect the controller’s USB cable before registering a slot.
- Make sure the controller is off; its light bar and player indicators should be dark.
Update through a PS5
For a DualSense, open Settings > Accessories > Controller (General) > DualSense Wireless Controller Device Software, then follow the prompts.

For DualSense Edge, use Settings > Accessories > DualSense Edge Wireless Controller > DualSense Edge Wireless Controller Device Software.
If you do not have a PS5, Sony supports controller firmware updates through the PlayStation Accessories application for Windows. Sony’s support pages do not identify a separate firmware version number for this feature.
Register a device to a slot
Repeat these steps for each device, choosing a different face-button slot when needed:

- Hold the desired face button and the PS button together for more than five seconds.
- Wait for the light bar and player indicator to flash twice.
- On the target device, open Bluetooth settings and choose the option to add a Bluetooth device.
- Select the DualSense controller from the discovered-device list.
- After pairing, the light bar turns on and the player indicators identify the selected slot.
The face button you hold determines the slot. You choose the assignment; the first device does not have to use Triangle.

These are only examples. Sony’s instructions let you assign pairings to the slots yourself.
Switch between saved devices
- Power on or wake the device you want to use and keep it within Bluetooth range.
- Hold the PS button and that device’s assigned face button for about three seconds.
- Release when the light bar and player indicator begin blinking.
- Wait for the controller to connect to the selected device.
Sony says switching can be initiated whether the controller is currently on or off. The target device must be awake and able to accept the Bluetooth connection. A nearby device that is already paired can sometimes claim the controller first.
PS5 and PS5 Pro: an important qualification
Sony’s marketing examples mention PS5 and PS5 Pro, but its general controller support documentation separately says a DualSense pairs with only one PS5 console at a time. Therefore, do not assume that four PS5 consoles can be stored as interchangeable slots. The reliable claim is that the controller stores up to four device registrations, while PS5-to-PS5 pairing remains subject to Sony’s one-console limitation and the behavior of the particular firmware.
If the console does not recognize the controller, use the standard method: turn on the PS5, connect the controller with a USB cable, and press the PS button.

Bluetooth, USB and Remote Play limits
This shortcut system is a Bluetooth workflow. USB remains useful when Bluetooth is unavailable or unstable, or when a game requires wired access to features such as PC haptics or the headset jack.
Pairing a controller to a phone, tablet, PC, or Mac does not itself establish Remote Play. You still need the PS Remote Play app, a compatible PS5 and account setup, and a suitable network connection. Sony lists Remote Play as a supported use case on compatible devices.

The controller will not enter registration mode
- Disconnect the USB cable.
- Confirm the controller is actually off.
- Hold PS plus the selected face button for longer than five seconds.
- Ensure Bluetooth is enabled on the target device.
- Check for an existing connection to another nearby device.
When the sequence works, the light bar and player indicator should flash twice.

Switching does not connect
- Wake the target device before pressing the shortcut.
- Hold PS plus the correct face button for roughly three seconds.
- Move closer to the target device.
- Temporarily turn off Bluetooth on nearby devices that may capture the controller.
- Verify that the target device still lists the DualSense as a paired device.
- Restart Bluetooth on the target device.
- Update the controller through a PS5 or PlayStation Accessories on Windows.
- If needed, register that slot again.
Sony’s published instructions do not establish a universal slot-deletion procedure, so do not assume that deleting a Bluetooth entry is always required.

A slot appears to point to the wrong device
The likely explanation is that a new device was registered to an already-used slot, replacing the expected association. Re-register the intended device using the correct face-button shortcut. This overwrite behavior follows from the four-slot design, but Sony’s concise instructions do not document a separate recovery menu.
Resetting the controller
With the PS5 off, press the small reset button on the back of the controller with a pin or similar tool, then try USB pairing again. Sony says a reset does not reconfigure the controller or erase its pairing settings, so resetting is not a method for clearing all four slots.
Who benefits most?
This is a meaningful quality-of-life upgrade for people who alternate between a PS5 and Windows PC, use a phone or tablet for Remote Play, play compatible Mac or Apple TV games, or keep more than one supported gaming device nearby. It also makes one preferred controller more practical without opening Bluetooth settings every time.

Separate permanently paired controllers, a USB connection, or a multi-platform controller are alternatives, but no new controller is required to use this feature.
What the update does—and does not—promise
- Does: store up to four user-assigned Bluetooth pairings and switch between them quickly.
- Does not: keep four active Bluetooth connections, guarantee every DualSense feature on every operating system, or remove Sony’s separate one-PS5 pairing limitation.
- Still requires: current PS5 and controller software, compatible Bluetooth support, and a target device that is awake and available.
For most owners, this is a practical firmware improvement rather than a new controller capability: update the controller once, assign your slots, and use the face-button shortcuts whenever you move between platforms.
