A VPN can sometimes help PUBG if your network blocks the game or your ISP takes a poor route to its servers, but it can also add latency, jitter, and connection failures. It is a troubleshooting option—not a reliable way to lower ping, raise FPS, bypass a ban, or make every edition of PUBG available. Test the same game, region, device, and connection with and without the VPN before paying for one.
This guide covers PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS, PUBG Mobile, BGMI, and console play as distinct cases: an app or setup that works for one may not work for another. The VPNs below are candidates to compare, not independently tested PUBG performance winners.
What does “PUBG unrestricted” mean?
People use “unrestricted” to describe several different problems: a school or hotel network blocking game traffic, poor routing from an ISP, joining friends in another matchmaking region, a country-specific availability restriction, or an account ban. Those are not interchangeable.
- A VPN changes the route your traffic takes and usually the IP address services see. It may help with a local network block or a poor route.
- It does not clear an account restriction, guarantee access to a regionally unavailable edition, change store or payment eligibility, or make prohibited conduct acceptable.
- Local law, publisher terms, platform services, and availability can vary by country and game edition. A VPN is not a dependable workaround for all of them.
PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS, PUBG Mobile, BGMI, and PUBG Mobile Lite are not one interchangeable service. PUBG’s support hub separates platform support; confirm the correct official game and account region before changing network settings.

Can a VPN improve PUBG ping?
Sometimes—but only if the ordinary route is the problem. A VPN can send traffic along a different path to the game service, which may reduce spikes or packet loss on a poorly routed connection. It also adds an extra hop and processing overhead, so it may make latency or stability worse.
PUBG describes matchmaking in terms that include network latency and efforts to match players with similar pings (PUBG support on ping and matchmaking). A VPN cannot make a distant server physically closer. Connecting to a VPN location far from you—or choosing a distant matchmaking region just to join a larger pool—can raise ping and make fights less consistent.
- Compare more than the average ping: watch spikes, jitter, packet loss, disconnects, and matchmaking time.
- A lower displayed ping is not proof of a better match if packet loss or jitter has increased.
- Do not assume a VPN improves FPS. It changes network routing, not rendering, GPU or CPU performance, textures, or display and peripheral input latency.
There is no neutral, repeatable head-to-head PUBG benchmark here establishing that any listed provider is fastest across locations. Vendor gaming pages are marketing material, not a substitute for testing your route.

When should you use a VPN—and when should you leave it off?
It may be worth testing if
- Gaming traffic is blocked on a network you are authorized to use.
- Your connection has recurring packet loss or unstable routing that persists after local network checks.
- You need a privacy tool for broader network use and also want to see whether a different route helps PUBG.
Skip it if
- Your normal connection is already stable and low-latency.
- The VPN raises ping, worsens packet loss, or causes login, anti-cheat, matchmaking, voice-chat, party, or platform-service failures.
- You need maximum consistency for competitive play and the VPN does not measurably improve consistency.
- Your aim is to evade a ban, manipulate latency, or gain an unfair advantage.
A VPN is not a replacement for Ethernet or stronger Wi-Fi, reducing local congestion, checking router firmware and equipment, asking your ISP about routing or packet loss, or following PUBG’s connection troubleshooting. PUBG’s support hub includes connection, lag, crash, and gameplay-related help.
Does PUBG allow VPN use, and can a VPN remove a ban?
The reviewed PUBG ban guidance does not give a blanket authorization for VPN use or identify ordinary VPN use as a categorical ban on its own. It focuses on prohibited conduct including unauthorized programs or hardware, modification of the client, server, or data, and abnormal gameplay. That is not a promise that every VPN, purpose, or use is safe; follow the current Rules of Conduct and applicable law. See PUBG’s ban guidance.
A VPN does not remove an account ban. Changing your apparent network origin is not an appeal and does not clear an account restriction. PUBG’s guidance also says restrictions may not be shortened through repeated support requests; use the official process rather than trying to route around enforcement.

Do not use a VPN or any other tool to induce lag, manipulate packets, interfere with gameplay, or gain an unfair advantage. In an April 17, 2026 anti-cheat letter, PUBG specifically warned that intentionally inducing latency for competitive advantage in console environments can result in a permanent ban. That warning is distinct from ordinary privacy or routing use.
VPNs to compare for PUBG
These are provider candidates based on their published features, not tested performance rankings. The vendor claims and dated prices below do not establish which route will work best from your home, ISP, game edition, or PUBG region.
| Provider | Potential fit | Published feature or price signal | Drawback to weigh |
|---|---|---|---|
| ExpressVPN | Players who prioritize a straightforward setup and broad platform coverage. | Its PUBG page advertises Lightway, server speed testing, apps for multiple platforms, and coverage in 113 countries and 214+ locations. These are provider claims. | The page does not establish independent PUBG latency results. It may not suit buyers focused on low cost or advanced router customization. |
| NordVPN | Players comparing a mainstream service with multiple app and security-product tiers. | On August 18, 2026, its U.S.-localized Basic offer showed $3.49/month equivalent, billed as $94.23 for the first 27 months, renewing at $139.08/year. A 12-month offer showed $5.49/month equivalent, billed at $65.88 for the first year, also renewing at $139.08/year. Taxes may apply. | The monthly figures are promotional equivalents for longer billing periods, not necessarily monthly charges. Bundled extras in higher tiers may be unnecessary if you only want to test routing. |
| Surfshark | Households or users wanting to connect many devices and compare a lower introductory offer. | On August 18, 2026, Starter and One each showed $2.49/month equivalent and $67.23 for the first 27 months, with three extra months shown; One+ showed $4.49/month equivalent and $121.23 for the first 27 months, also with three extra months shown. The page lists a 30-day money-back guarantee, unlimited-device positioning, and split tunneling. | Promotional billing periods are long, and “unlimited devices” does not guarantee unlimited bandwidth or a good route to a particular PUBG region. Surfshark says prices vary by currency, VAT, and coupons. |
Prices and offers can change by date, region, taxes, currency, and promotion. Check the provider’s checkout and refund terms before buying; an introductory price is not the same as the renewal price.

Features that matter more than a “gaming” label
- Nearby server choice: several nearby locations give you routes to compare, but server count alone does not guarantee good peering.
- Protocol options: WireGuard or another lightweight modern protocol is a reasonable starting point; performance depends on your network and provider, so compare alternatives if unstable.
- Reconnect behavior: useful on mobile data or unreliable Wi-Fi, where a tunnel drop can interrupt a match.
- Split tunneling: can keep a launcher, voice app, or platform service outside the VPN if it fails through the tunnel. Configure it carefully.
- Router and platform support: relevant to consoles; app availability and supported router configurations differ.
- Kill switch: can prevent traffic leaving outside the tunnel if it drops, but may abruptly disconnect a live match.
- Renewal and refund terms: verify the actual charge, length of commitment, and refund eligibility.
- Privacy transparency: read the privacy policy and look for independent audits; a “no logs” slogan alone is not independent proof.
- Server location transparency: a displayed country does not necessarily establish the physical location of the server.
How to set up and test a VPN for PUBG
Establish a baseline first
- Use the same device, connection, PUBG edition, and matchmaking region throughout the comparison.
- Play several matches without the VPN at roughly the time you expect to play. Record in-game ping, visible spikes, packet-loss indicators if shown, disconnects, matchmaking wait, and voice or party problems.
- Repeat with the VPN on under comparable conditions. Do not compare wired broadband at night with mobile data at lunchtime and attribute the difference to the VPN.
Test the VPN route
- Install the provider’s official app and sign in.
- Connect to the nearest city or country first, not simply the place you want to appear to be in.
- Choose the provider’s lightweight modern protocol where available. If stability is poor, test another supported protocol.
- Connect before starting the game, then test at least two or three nearby servers.
- If nearby routes remain poor, try an intermediate location between you and the PUBG region; a faraway endpoint can add distance.
- Check login, matchmaking, party invites, voice chat, reconnect behavior, and match consistency as well as the ping display.
- Keep the VPN on only if it improves stability or solves the access problem without causing other failures. Disconnect it afterward to confirm normal play returns.
ExpressVPN’s PUBG page describes a similar provider-specific sequence—install and sign in, choose a nearby server, then launch PUBG—and advertises a built-in server speed test. Treat that as its own setup advice, not a guarantee of an optimal route (ExpressVPN’s PUBG page).
PC, mobile, and console are different setups
- PC: use the official desktop VPN app and launch PUBG after connecting. If Steam, the launcher, or voice chat fails, test split tunneling or another server rather than installing an unofficial bypass tool.
- Android and iOS: use the provider’s official mobile app and test Wi-Fi and mobile data separately. VPN use can add battery drain, especially with poor signal. Do not assume PUBG Mobile and BGMI share the same availability, account, or regional rules.
- PlayStation and Xbox: users may need a VPN-enabled router, hotspot, or other supported network setup rather than a native console app. Router configuration is provider- and model-dependent; PC instructions do not apply universally.
If PUBG will not connect through the VPN
- Disconnect the VPN and fully close PUBG and its launcher.
- Restart the VPN app, connect to a different nearby server, then retry.
- Change the VPN protocol and test again.
- Temporarily disable optional threat-blocking or ad-blocking features to see whether they interfere.
- Try split tunneling so the launcher or platform service bypasses the tunnel.
- Restart the device or router. If connection problems persist, play without the VPN and follow PUBG’s official connectivity guidance.
Do not rely on random port-forwarding instructions or third-party “PUBG unlockers” without official, platform-specific documentation. If the error concerns an account restriction or anti-cheat system, a VPN is not a remedy; use official support.
Alternatives to try before buying a VPN
- Use Ethernet, or move to a stronger 5 GHz or 6 GHz Wi-Fi connection where supported.
- Reduce local congestion by pausing downloads and limiting other high-bandwidth activity.
- Check router firmware and equipment condition; restart the router and device.
- Contact your ISP with evidence of recurring packet loss or poor routing, especially if the problem occurs at particular times.
- Compare fixed-line and mobile connections under similar conditions. A different access network may be a better route without a VPN.
- Use PUBG’s official connection and troubleshooting resources rather than unofficial tools.
Free VPNs are not automatically malicious, but they may impose data caps, crowded servers, fewer route choices, intrusive advertising, or privacy terms that are a poor fit. Read the specific service’s terms; “free” does not establish suitability for uninterrupted gameplay.
