It reduces the damage from the ritual and its associated curse, but it does not stop Mohg from healing during the attack.
What the Purifying Crystal Tear does
Once mixed into the Flask of Wondrous Physick, the Tear provides protection against the curse associated with Mohg’s Bloodboon Ritual and substantially reduces the damage you take from the ritual. It is not a standalone consumable: equip it as part of a Physick mixture and drink the flask to gain its effect.
The protection has a limit: Mohg still recovers health during the ritual. The Tear mitigates the danger to you; it does not cancel the boss’s healing.
How to use it against Mohg
- At a Site of Grace, open the Flask of Wondrous Physick mixing option and add the Purifying Crystal Tear to your mixture.
- Enter the Mohg, Lord of Blood fight with the mixed Physick available.
- Drink it as Mohg transitions into his second phase. PlayStation’s official Shadow of the Erdtree guide recommends this timing for the Bloodboon Ritual.
Mohg is at the end of Mohgwyn Palace. PlayStation’s guide also notes that defeating him is required to access the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion.

How to get the Purifying Crystal Tear
The specialist Elden Ring wiki lists Eleonora, Violet Bloody Finger, as the drop source and the Second Church of Marika in Altus Plateau as the location. Its route information connects Eleonora’s invasion to Bloody Finger Hunter Yura’s quest progression and also reports alternate triggers. The detailed trigger sequence is community-maintained rather than confirmed in an official publisher walkthrough, so the exact route may depend on your quest state.
Bandai Namco’s version 1.07 patch notes describe a general fix for Crystal Tear acquisition: if a player failed to receive a Tear, it would be added to inventory when the player moved near the place where it should have been obtained. This is historical patch context, not evidence of a current Purifying Crystal Tear-specific bug.

The sources support the Tear as a targeted preparation for this encounter, but not a numerical estimate of how much easier the fight becomes or a claim that it is the only viable strategy.
