Try the low-risk checks below before clearing browser data, which can erase progress saved by some versions.
First, identify which Quordle site is failing
Check the full address in your browser before troubleshooting. Quordle appears on multiple websites; advice about saved games on one site is not necessarily true for another. The independent Quordle.uk troubleshooting guide explicitly distinguishes its site from the official version and notes that some fixes may not apply elsewhere.
Pin down the symptom: a blank or endlessly loading page, an ignored physical keyboard, a board that does not fit the screen, a rejected guess, missing stats or streak, an unfinished game that restarted, or a sharing failure. Different symptoms point to different checks.
Try these low-risk checks first
- Reload the page once. If the game is embedded or still loading, give it a short moment before trying again.
- Focus the game before typing. Click or tap inside the board. Quordle.game’s FAQ advises: “Click inside the game area once to make sure it has focus.” On mobile, try that site’s on-screen keyboard. The FAQ describes its game as four five-letter words with nine attempts; that rule applies to the game covered by that FAQ, not necessarily every Quordle-branded site. See the Quordle.game FAQ.
- Check the layout. If part of the board is cut off, reset browser zoom. On a tablet, rotating the screen may help.
- Reduce browser load. Close a few extra tabs or restart the browser if it is sluggish.
Quordle won’t load or shows a blank screen
A blank page is not proof that the game itself is down. Browser-side causes can include blocked JavaScript or other scripts, stale cached data, a slow connection, or an extension interfering with the page. Quordle.uk lists these as possibilities, and Google’s general Chrome troubleshooting guidance also points to JavaScript, extensions, browser data, updates, and network connectivity. Test the browser without deleting data
- Check that JavaScript is enabled for the site.
- Temporarily disable an extension, ad blocker, or content blocker that might be preventing scripts from running; restore it after the test.
- Try the same game in a different browser on the same device. If it works there, the first browser is a useful place to investigate.
- If possible, compare the same device on another network, or another device on the same network. A change in result can help narrow down whether the issue is tied to the browser, device, or connection.
- A private window can be a useful diagnostic, but do not assume it will retain locally saved game progress.
Chrome’s support article says, “Some video or game issues are caused by Chrome extensions, plug-ins, or something saved in your cache or browser data.” That is general browser advice, not confirmation of a Quordle-specific fault.
The keyboard isn’t responding—or Enter seems broken
If pressing keys produces no visible response, click or tap the game area to give it focus, then try again. On a phone or tablet, use the game’s on-screen keyboard if available. If the board is cramped or partly hidden, reset zoom or rotate the device before testing again.

Separate a nonresponsive key from a rejected guess. If nothing happens when you press Enter, check focus and try the on-screen key. If the game responds but rejects the word, the word may not be accepted in that site’s word list; that is different from a technical failure. The accepted list can vary by site.
My unfinished game restarted, or my stats or streak are missing
Reopen the exact same site using the same browser profile and device where you were playing. Avoid clearing cookies or site data until you have checked whether that site stores progress locally.

Quordle.uk says it has no accounts and keeps stats and unfinished-game progress in the browser. Its guide warns that changing browsers or devices, using private browsing, or clearing browser data can make progress appear missing or remove it. Those statements are specific to Quordle.uk; the storage, cross-device sync, and recovery behavior of Merriam-Webster’s Quordle is not established here. Do not assume that one site’s behavior applies to another.
Clearing cookies or site data is a more destructive step than reloading or testing another browser. If progress matters, leave it untouched unless you understand what the site stores and are prepared for local data to be erased.

A rejected word is not the same as a broken game
If the board updates and gives a rejection message, the game is responding; the word may simply be outside that site’s accepted list. If the keyboard or Enter key produces no response at all, investigate focus or browser input instead. Because Quordle-branded sites can use different word lists, a word accepted on one may not be accepted on another.
When to report a continuing problem
If the safe checks do not resolve it, gather details that help distinguish a site issue from a local one:

- The exact page address from the address bar.
- Your device and browser, including the browser version if handy.
- The specific symptom and approximately when it started.
- Whether the same game works in another browser, on another device, or over another network.
- A screenshot, if it shows the error or blank screen clearly.
For problems specifically with Quordle.uk, its contact page accepts bug reports and says it typically responds within 24 hours; messages sent over the weekend are answered the following Monday. This contact route and response-time statement apply to Quordle.uk, not other sites using the Quordle name.
