In R.E.P.O., looting is a risk-and-reward loop: discover a collectible, get it to the extraction point, and watch the countdown warning for valuables at risk. Ordinary valuables and Cosmetic Boxes are separate collection paths, and the exact loot pool and handling details can change between updates.
What counts as loot in R.E.P.O.?
For a looting run, distinguish ordinary valuables from Cosmetic Boxes. Ordinary valuables are the loot whose extraction risk is called out by the extraction-point warning. Cosmetic Boxes follow a separate reward path: Semiwork says extracted boxes award Tax Tokens for use in the cosmetic shop.

The May 7, 2026 Cosmetic Update announcement described more than 500 cosmetic parts. That figure describes the cosmetic collection, not the number or value of ordinary valuables. See Semiwork’s official R.E.P.O. announcements.
How do you find and collect valuables?
Discover items as you search, then move what you collect toward extraction. Official patch notes show that discovery behavior has changed over time: v0.4.1, dated May 9, 2026, fixed discovery while tumbled or driving, and v0.4.2, dated May 12, 2026, allowed discovery while using Semibot Walkies. These are dated changes, not a guarantee that every interaction behaves the same in a later build. The notes are available in Semiwork’s announcement and version-note archive.

The same v0.4.1 notes added truck item spawn positions because the previous positions could not spawn every item in the game. That is a concrete reason to treat old spawn advice as version-specific rather than a guaranteed map route.
How do you get valuables out safely?
Use the extraction countdown warning as your clearest official cue about risk. The June 26, 2025 Museum Update notes say extraction points display a warning graphic during the countdown that highlights valuables at risk of destruction. Before committing to extraction, check the warning and make a deliberate decision about what to bring through the point rather than assuming every carried item is safe.

This warning is useful for managing risk, but the available official notes do not establish a universal carrying order, item-priority list, or guaranteed safe route. The graphic identifies danger; it does not provide a complete strategy for every level.
Why does the moon phase matter?
The June 26, 2025 Museum Update notes say moon phases shift every five levels and raise difficulty; phases can add effects such as Overcharge. As difficulty rises, weigh the danger of continuing to search against the value of getting collected loot to extraction. The five-level cadence and named effect are details from those 2025 notes, not a promise that later updates have left the system unchanged. Should you use special gear to loot?
Consider gear for the utility it offers in your current build, but do not treat any tool as a proven best-loot option. The May 7, 2026 Cosmetic Update announcement introduced Semibot Walkies, Scout, Hauler, Defibro, Leaf Blower, Roll Staff, Zero Gravity Staff, and Void Staff. Later, the May 25, 2026 v0.4.4 announcement said all staffs have six battery pips and recorded balance changes to the Zero Gravity, Roll, and Void Staffs.
Those notes establish that gear and handling can change; they do not rank tools for collecting or extracting loot. Check each item’s current in-game description and the live version’s notes before building a strategy around it. Semiwork’s official announcement archive contains the dated update information.

The reviewed official material supports the basic discovery-and-extraction loop, the extraction warning, and a dated history of changes to discovery, spawns, and gear. It does not provide a complete current list of valuables, item values, level-by-level spawn locations, or verified optimal routes. Avoid relying on exact-value charts or guaranteed-spawn claims unless they have been checked against the current build.
The newest loot-relevant patch note in the cited material is v0.4.4, dated May 25, 2026. Semiwork’s June 5, 2026 announcement described a planned focus on a new level and development approaching version 1.0; that dated roadmap statement alone does not establish what later updates have launched.
