What rasddui.dll does
The name refers to the Raster Common Printer Driver UI DLL. It belongs to Microsoft’s older Windows NT raster printer-driver architecture and provides the printer interface and configuration layer for the RASDD raster driver.
It is associated with legacy printer drivers, especially older v3 and NT-era packages. Its related rendering component is RASDD.DLL. A historical driver package could place the file in a path resembling:
%SystemRoot%System32spooldriversW32X86<version>RASDDUI.DLL
That is a historical example, not a universal path for current Windows 10 or Windows 11. The exact location depends on the installed printer package, Windows architecture, and driver model.

A program or game that requests this file may contain an obsolete printer component or may be triggering a Windows loader error indirectly. It does not make rasddui.dll a normal application runtime file.
What the error means
You may see wording such as:
- “The program can’t start because rasddui.dll is missing from your computer.”
- “rasddui.dll was not found.”
- “Error loading rasddui.dll.”
- “The specified module could not be found.”
- “The procedure entry point could not be located.”
- “The application or DLL is not a valid Windows image.”
The wording helps identify the failure, but not always the cause. “The specified module could not be found” can mean that a dependency of rasddui.dll is missing rather than the named file itself.
The context matters most:
- If the error appears while adding a printer or opening printer preferences, suspect the printer-driver package.
- If the Print Spooler fails or several printers stop working, check Windows component health and staged drivers.
- If only one old application reports the error, identify that application and the path it is searching before changing Windows files.
- If the file disappeared after an antivirus alert, inspect Protection History before restoring anything.
Fix 1: Remove and reinstall the affected printer
This is the safest first repair when the problem began during printer installation, after replacing a driver, or when only one printer is affected.
Remove the printer
- Open Settings.
- Select Bluetooth & devices.
- Select Printers & scanners.
- Choose the affected printer.
- Select Remove.
- Confirm the removal.
- Restart Windows.
After restarting:
- Return to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
- Select Add device.
- Allow Windows to search for the printer.
- Complete the installation.
- Print a test page from the printer’s settings.
Microsoft recommends starting with Windows Update and using the printer manufacturer’s official support page when Windows cannot find a suitable driver: Download and install the latest printer drivers.

If the printer reappears but the same error returns, the old driver may still be staged.
Remove an obsolete driver package
- Press Windows key + R.
- Enter:
printui.exe /s /t2
- Press Enter.
- Select the Drivers tab.
- Highlight the driver associated with the removed printer.
- Select Remove.
- Choose Remove driver and driver package if Windows offers that choice.
- Restart Windows.
- Reinstall the exact driver for the printer model.
Do not remove a driver that another working printer still uses unless you are certain it is no longer required.

- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Printers or Print queues.
- Right-click the affected device.
- Select Properties.
- Open the Driver tab.
- Select Roll Back Driver if available.
- If rollback is unavailable, select Uninstall Device, restart Windows, and reinstall the manufacturer’s signed package.

Fix 2: Install pending Windows updates
A failed update or printer migration can leave the spooler with mismatched files.
- Open Settings.
- Select Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates.
- Install all applicable updates.
- Restart the computer.
- Check for updates again.
- Test the printer.
If the printer was migrated from an older Windows installation, remove it first, restart, and add it again after Windows has completed updating.
Fix 3: Repair Windows components with DISM and SFC
Use this step when several printing functions fail, Windows identifies rasddui.dll as a protected or damaged file, or reinstalling the printer does not help.
- Right-click Start.
- Select Terminal (Admin) or Command Prompt (Admin).
- Select Yes at the User Account Control prompt.
- Run this command and wait for it to finish:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Test the Print Spooler and printer again.
Microsoft recommends running DISM before SFC because DISM can repair the component source that SFC uses. If SFC reports that it could not repair some files, review its details with:

Open sfcdetails.txt from the desktop and look for references to rasddui.dll, printer components, or other spooler files. If DISM fails, note the complete error code rather than repeatedly running the same command.
Repeating system scans without knowing what changed can make troubleshooting slow. Fix 4: Check Windows Security Protection History
If the error started immediately after an antivirus notification, the file may have been quarantined. A missing file is not proof that the detection was wrong.
- Open Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Review the detection details.
- Check the original file path and detected item.
- Confirm whether it belonged to a printer-driver package.
- Do not restore it unless you have verified that the detection was a false positive and the file is digitally signed or comes from a trusted driver package.
If you restore a verified false positive, reinstall the complete printer-driver package afterward. Do not restore an isolated DLL from quarantine and assume the driver is repaired. Microsoft explains the available actions in Protection History in the Windows Security app.

If the file is located in an unexpected application folder, run a full security scan and investigate the requesting program.
Fix 5: Check the Print and Document Services feature
Windows printing features should normally already be enabled. This check is useful if printing components were removed or a managed installation changed optional features.
- Press Windows key + R.
- Enter:
optionalfeatures
- Press Enter.
- Expand Print and Document Services.
- Check whether the features required by your environment are enabled.
- Select OK if you made a legitimate change.
- Restart Windows.
Do not enable unrelated legacy printing features simply because rasddui.dll is mentioned in an error. If the feature is already enabled, return to driver removal and DISM/SFC instead.
Check 32-bit, 64-bit, and ARM64 compatibility
A printer driver must match the Windows environment and the printer-driver model. Do not replace an x86 file with an x64 or ARM64 file, or the reverse.
Check your system architecture:
- Open Settings.
- Select System.
- Select About.
- Review System type.
Then obtain the driver specifically listed for your Windows architecture and printer model. A 32-bit legacy package may not work correctly on a 64-bit installation, and an older installer may not support an ARM-based PC.
On ARM systems, try Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners > Add device first. Windows may provide a compatible inbox driver even when the manufacturer’s traditional installer cannot run.
What not to do
Do not download rasddui.dll from a random DLL site
An isolated download can contain malware, the wrong architecture, an incompatible historical build, or a modified file. It may also leave the actual printer-driver package broken.

Use Windows Update, Windows servicing, installation media, or the printer manufacturer’s official signed driver package instead.

Manual copying can create mismatched versions, signature problems, servicing conflicts, and duplicate files. The file may be a dependent component inside a printer-driver package rather than a standalone Windows DLL.
Do not use regsvr32 as a generic repair
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that provide registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer. rasddui.dll is a printer-driver component, not a general COM or ActiveX library. Registering it normally does not repair a missing or damaged printer package.
Do not install Visual C++ Redistributable for this error
rasddui.dll is not established as part of Visual C++ Redistributable, DirectX, .NET, or a game runtime. Installing those packages is unlikely to repair a printer-driver failure.
When to use System Restore or Windows repair
Use System Restore when printing worked before a specific driver or Windows change and a restore point exists:
- Open Control Panel.
- Search for Recovery.
- Select Open System Restore.
- Choose a restore point from before the failure.
- Review the affected programs and drivers.
- Start the restore.
System Restore rolls back system state, settings, drivers, and applications associated with the selected point. It does not replace a current printer driver permanently, so reinstall the correct package afterward if needed.
If DISM and SFC fail, the printer remains broken with multiple drivers, or Windows has broader corruption, consider an in-place Windows repair using official Windows installation media. Back up important files first and preserve the exact error text.

Information to collect before escalation
For persistent failures, record:
- Windows edition and system type
- Printer make and model
- Printer driver name and version, if shown
- Full error wording
- The executable that displays the error
- The path where Windows found or expected
rasddui.dll - Whether the issue began after an update, driver change, printer removal, cleanup, or antivirus alert
- Print Spooler behavior
- Relevant Event Viewer or PrintService log entries
This separates a damaged Windows component from a defective legacy driver or an application that is incorrectly shipping an obsolete printer component.
FAQ
Is rasddui.dll safe?
It is a legitimate Microsoft printer-driver component in the correct Windows or printer-driver location. The filename alone does not prove that every copy is safe. Check its path, digital signature, and driver package.
Is rasddui.dll part of Visual C++?
No verified connection supports that classification. Repair the printer driver or Windows components instead of installing Visual C++ Redistributable.
Does the error affect every printer?
Not necessarily. A damaged package may affect one printer, while Windows component corruption or a broken Print Spooler can affect several printers.
Can I download a replacement file?
Do not download an isolated copy. Reinstall the complete signed driver package or let Windows servicing restore protected components.
Why does a game or application mention this file?
The program may contain an obsolete printer component, or Windows may be loading the file while initializing printing-related functionality. Identify the requesting executable and its search path before modifying anything.

What is the most likely fix?
Remove the affected printer and obsolete driver package, restart Windows, then reinstall the correct driver through Windows Update or the printer manufacturer. If several printing features are broken, follow with DISM and SFC.
