Rat King is best understood as a durable frontline pressure hero, not a conventional hard-engage initiator. He can help a team fight become safer for allies and harder for enemies to escape, but his documented kit does not establish a single, reliable ability for starting fights on demand. The clearest sourced contrast is Seven, whose setup emphasizes area control and is more vulnerable to cover and positioning.
What Rat King contributes to a fight
Rat King’s four listed abilities combine repeated area pressure, target weakening, personal protection, and team utility. Together, they reward advancing into a fight and sustaining pressure rather than relying on one decisive entry move. deadlock.one’s Rat King hero page lists the abilities; its October 3, 2026 overview describes the broader fight pattern. Ability details and balance can change as Deadlock is updated.
- Scrap Grenade: detonates multiple times, deals bullet damage, and slows enemies.
- Rat Swarm: pressures a target over time and reduces that target’s bullet resistance.
- Royal Pestments: grants a barrier based on maximum health and can deflect incoming bullets while the barrier remains active.
- Rule, Ratannia!: creates a banner area that gives nearby allies movement speed, slow immunity, and reduced incoming damage. The October 3 overview also describes the ultimate as damaging and knocking enemies into the air, slowing them, and spreading Rat Swarm to enemies in its area.
That mix can help Rat King push forward, weaken targets, and make it easier for nearby teammates to stay involved. It is useful engagement support, but the available ability descriptions do not establish the mobility, timing, or reliability needed to say he independently reaches and locks down a chosen target better than a dedicated pick or dive hero.
How to compare initiators in Deadlock
“Initiator” is more useful as a description of what a hero contributes to a particular lineup than as a fixed label with a prescribed build. The Deadlock.io hero-roles guide, an unofficial reference updated September 20, 2026, recommends judging how a hero starts a fight, reaches targets, survives the response, and enables follow-up. Compare heroes by these practical questions:
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Engagement pattern: Does the hero open with a ranged pick, pull or lockdown, dive, or advancing area threat?
- Reach and access: Can the hero reliably get to the target or position that matters?
- Disruption: Does the kit stun, pull, knock up, slow, zone, or force opponents to reposition?
- Survival after entry: What helps the hero endure the enemy response?
- Team value: Does the hero create a target for allies, protect nearby teammates, or apply pressure and control independently?
- Follow-up: How much does the team need to convert the opening into a kill or objective?
By that framework, Rat King’s distinction is not simply that he can enter a fight; it is that his documented kit pairs frontline staying power with pressure and benefits for nearby allies. An initiator still needs teammates to capitalize on the opening, and team support does not replace the hero’s own contribution.
Rat King versus Seven: frontline pressure or area control?
Seven offers a limited but useful contrast. His guide describes a delayed stun that can create an opening for repeated weapon shocks or a storm. That setup can threaten clustered enemies, but cover can undo much of the area pressure, and the storm’s long channel makes positioning important. See the Deadlock.io Seven guide for the ability and positioning discussion.

| Comparison point | Rat King | Seven |
|---|---|---|
| Fight pattern | Advances with repeated pressure, target weakening, and team-fight utility. | Sets up area control through a delayed stun and follow-on damage or a storm. |
| Survival and ally support | Has a health-based barrier that can deflect bullets while active; his banner benefits nearby allies. | The cited guide’s contrast centers on area control, cover, and positioning, not comparable defensive or ally-buff details. |
| Key limitation | The available descriptions do not establish a dedicated, reliable hard-engage tool. | Cover can blunt area pressure, and the storm’s long channel makes positioning important. |
Choose the comparison that matches the job your lineup needs: Rat King’s documented strengths align with pushing and sustaining a team fight alongside allies; Seven’s described setup asks him to create and exploit an area-control window. Neither description alone proves which hero is stronger in every lineup or matchup.

The current source material supports a detailed Rat King discussion and a narrower Seven contrast, but it does not establish current ability comparisons for Bebop, Dynamo, Lash, or Mo & Krill. It would be misleading to rank Rat King against those heroes or present a definitive list of “the initiators” as an official taxonomy without current, hero-specific information. The role guide instead encourages evaluating how each kit contributes to the particular team composition.
