Razer’s Wolverine V4 Pro is a wireless Xbox and PC controller that introduces capacitive thumbstick sensors in place of the TMR technology readers may have expected. Razer says the sensors offer higher resolution, better power efficiency and greater resistance to magnetic interference than TMR and Hall Effect alternatives. Those are manufacturer claims, not independently verified results, and the V4 Pro’s official product page contains conflicting information about its stick technology and battery life.
What is new about the Wolverine V4 Pro’s thumbsticks?
Razer announced the Wolverine V4 line on October 6, 2026. It includes the wireless V4 Pro and a wired Tournament Edition; this article focuses on the Pro. Razer describes the Pro’s sticks as capacitive sensors. In its launch announcement, the company says they provide higher resolution, power efficiency and resistance to magnetic interference compared with TMR and Hall Effect sensors, while retaining drift-resistant performance. These are Razer’s comparisons, not a settled independent finding about the competing technologies.
Razer says its capacitive sticks register approximately 3,000 movement steps, measured using a 16-bit analog-to-digital converter. The announcement’s footnote specifies that measurement used a Razer Hyper Wireless dongle connected to a PC at 8,000 Hz polling. It should not be read as a result independently measured across Xbox, different PC configurations or ordinary gameplay.
There is a notable inconsistency in Razer’s own materials: the V4 Pro feature heading and launch announcement call the sticks capacitive, but the FAQ on the official product page calls them Hall Effect. Razer’s announcement supports capacitive as the technology it launched, but the conflicting FAQ means buyers should seek clarification if the exact sensor type is decisive.

How fast does it poll on Xbox and PC?
Razer specifies different maximum polling rates by platform: up to 250 Hz on Xbox Series X|S and up to 8,000 Hz on PC. The 8,000 Hz figure is not an Xbox specification. Razer also reports response times below 1 ms in its launch announcement, while its product page describes latency below 2 ms. The official pages therefore use different latency wording; neither figure is an independent test result.
A higher polling rate describes how frequently the controller reports input; it does not by itself establish a measurable gameplay advantage. The figures here are manufacturer specifications, and the cited launch coverage does not provide an independent hands-on performance test of the V4 Pro.

What customization does the V4 Pro offer?
The Pro is built around configurable controls and interchangeable parts. Razer lists four magnetic, swappable back buttons, two claw-grip bumpers and six mappable multifunction buttons. The faceplate attaches magnetically, and the thumbstick caps are interchangeable. Razer also lists four onboard profiles, adjustable dead zones and trigger actuation adjustable from 1.3 mm to 8.2 mm.
That range gives players options to tailor button placement and trigger response for different games, including the competitive FPS, racing and sports genres named in Razer’s announcement. The announcement establishes that caps and the faceplate are removable or interchangeable; it does not establish that separate compatible replacement parts are currently sold.

How does the V4 Pro compare with the Tournament Edition?
| Feature | Wolverine V4 Pro | Wolverine V4 Tournament Edition |
|---|---|---|
| Connection | Wireless | Wired |
| Back controls | Four magnetic, swappable back buttons and two claw-grip bumpers, according to Razer’s announcement | Integrated back buttons, according to Razer’s product page |
| Other customization | Removable magnetic faceplate, interchangeable caps, onboard profiles, adjustable dead zones and trigger actuation, according to Razer’s announcement | Not stated in the cited materials |
| Best fit by connection preference | Players who want wireless play | Players who prefer a wired competitive controller |
Both belong to the Wolverine V4 line and are designed for Xbox and PC, but the available product information gives more detail about the Pro’s customization than the Tournament Edition’s. Choose between them first by whether you want wireless or wired play; the cited specifications do not support a fuller performance comparison.
Price, availability and unresolved battery life
GamesRadar reported a launch price of $199.99 in the US and £199.99 in the UK. Those are reported launch prices, not a guarantee of current transaction prices; regional pricing and stock can differ. Razer says the controller is available through its online store, official RazerStores and authorized retailers, with availability varying by region. The cited information does not confirm an Amazon listing.
Battery life is unresolved in Razer’s US product-page claims: one section says up to 27 hours, while the FAQ on the same page says up to 40 hours. Neither figure can be treated as a definitive battery-life specification without clarification from Razer.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What the launch claims do—and do not—establish
Razer positions the V4 Pro for competitive games and quotes LastShot, identified as the 2025 Halo World Champion with Shopify Rebellion, praising it as a step beyond the Wolverine V3. That is a vendor-selected launch endorsement, not an independent review. The sensor approach is new for this gamepad, and its practical payoff remains to be seen in independent testing. Razer’s claims about resolution, interference resistance, drift resistance and polling should therefore be weighed as specifications and company assertions, not guarantees of a particular in-game outcome.
