But it is not a new August 2026 announcement: Razer introduced it at CES on January 7, 2025, and announced its official launch on April 10, 2025. It is now an established part of Razer’s software ecosystem, not a cloud-gaming service.
What Razer PC Remote Play does
The game runs on a Windows host PC with Razer Cortex. Remote Play sends the game’s picture and audio to a compatible client, while the client sends your controls back to the PC. Your computer must still run the game, and you need to own or otherwise have access to the game itself. Razer describes support for libraries including Steam, Epic Games Store, PC Game Pass, and other PC games; that is platform support, not a guarantee that every title or launcher will work seamlessly.
Razer presents the feature through Cortex on the host and Razer Nexus and the Remote Play app on mobile. It requires a Razer ID to pair the devices. Razer says Nexus has no fee or subscription, but that does not make the PC, games, controller, or internet connection free. Razer PC Remote Play and its launch announcement describe the service and supported devices.
How it compares with Steam Remote Play
Razer’s clearest advantage is convenience for a library spread across PC storefronts. Steam Remote Play is the more natural choice for a Steam-first household and has features Razer does not identify as part of its service, notably Remote Play Together and VR streaming.

Razer says Remote Play adapts to a client’s resolution and refresh rate, avoids a forced fixed aspect ratio, and supports AV1. These are manufacturer claims, not a head-to-head performance measurement. The cited materials do not establish that Razer is faster or produces better image quality than Steam Link. Steam’s feature list is on its Remote Play page.

Connect a mobile device
- Install Razer Nexus and Razer PC Remote Play on the mobile device.
- Enable Remote Play on the PC, then sign in on both devices with the same Razer ID.
- Pair the mobile device with the host PC.
- Connect a compatible controller and choose a game from the mobile interface.
Razer’s launch information says compatible iOS and Android controllers are supported; a Kishi is an optional phone-first convenience, not a stated requirement. The exact experience can vary with the controller, device, and game.
Playing away from home
Remote access is possible, but it depends on the host and network rather than Razer servers running your game. The PC has to stay powered on and online, and your router must permit access through UPnP or correctly configured manual port forwarding. Razer also lists a public IP address or a network configuration that allows access, the same Razer ID on both devices, and initial pairing on the same network before connecting from elsewhere. Its remote-play support guide explains the network requirements.

(*Razer Nexus does not require a fee/subscription, however some apps within Razer Nexus do)
If local streaming works but cellular or another outside network does not, check that the host is awake and online, the router settings and firewall permit the connection, and the host network has usable inbound connectivity. Carrier-grade NAT or restrictions imposed by an internet provider or network can prevent a connection even when the apps are configured correctly. Remote play also depends on upload capacity and latency; it cannot guarantee a good experience over mobile data.
Supported devices and practical limits
Razer’s current product page lists iOS 18 or later and Android 14 or later for mobile. The host is a Windows PC running Cortex; Razer references Windows 10 and 11, with the download section specifying 64-bit Windows 10/11. Razer also advertises Windows-to-Windows streaming, but users should check the current download and support pages for the client configuration they intend to use. Phones, tablets, and Windows handhelds can serve as clients when the relevant software and operating system are supported.

- Universal Mobile Gaming Controller: Designed to bring console-level control to your phone for gaming anywhere
- Cloud and Mobile Gaming: Compatible with leading cloud gaming services including Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, Stadia, Amazon Luna, GeForce NOW, & Steam Link; & hundreds of popular mobile games including Fortnite, Minecraft, Roblox, Brawlhalla, Asphalt 9: Legends, Black Desert Mobile, emulators, & many more.
- Refine Your Aim and Execution: Clickable analog thumbsticks provide greater accuracy and tactile feedback, and the performance buttons and d-pad deliver precision input
- Latency-Free Gameplay: Unlike Bluetooth controllers which produce lag, the controller has zero latency by directly connecting to the device’s charging port
- USB Type C Charging Port: For pass-through charging of your phone or tablet while using the controller
- The game is listed but will not launch: Confirm that it is installed on the host. A launcher may need a sign-in or confirmation on the PC, and a storefront entry may not launch every title consistently. Anti-cheat, DRM, or game-specific behavior can also interfere.
- The image has bars or the wrong size: Razer promotes resolution and aspect-ratio adaptation, but the outcome can still depend on the game, host display setup, codec support, and client hardware.
- Controls do not work well: Check the game’s controller support and layout. Games designed around mouse and keyboard may be awkward on a phone controller.
- Input feels delayed: Encoding on the host, network congestion, Wi-Fi quality, client decoding, game frame rate, controller connection, and whether the stream is local or remote all affect responsiveness. Razer describes the experience as low-latency but does not provide a standardized latency figure in the cited materials.
- The PC is busy: The host renders the game and encodes the stream. Heavy CPU or GPU use can affect streaming, especially when a game leaves little performance headroom.
Which service should you use?
Choose Razer PC Remote Play if
- Your games are split across Steam, Epic, PC Game Pass, and other launchers.
- You want a Razer mobile interface to browse and start supported PC games.
- You already own a Kishi or want a controller that attaches directly to a phone.
- You value Razer’s advertised display adaptation and are comfortable using Cortex, Nexus, and a Razer ID.
Choose Steam Remote Play if
- Your library is primarily on Steam and you want Steam’s integrated route.
- You want Remote Play Together or supported SteamVR streaming.
- You prefer Steam’s broader listed client options or do not want to add Razer software and an account.
Neither is a fit if
- You want to play without owning and powering a capable gaming PC; these are self-hosted streaming options, not cloud gaming.
- Your home upload connection or network conditions cannot sustain a stream.
- You cannot or do not want to configure outside-the-home access when your router or network requires it.
- Your game depends on mouse-and-keyboard input or has launcher, anti-cheat, or DRM behavior that prevents reliable remote use.
Verdict
Razer PC Remote Play is a legitimate alternative to Steam Link for streaming a PC library to mobile and Windows devices, particularly when that library spans multiple storefronts. Its case is convenience and Razer’s device integration—not demonstrated superiority in speed or image quality. Steam remains distinct for Steam-centric use, Remote Play Together, and VR streaming.
