These specifications come from Nintendo’s U.S. listing and Canadian listing. The game’s online design meant “free” did not mean an offline, self-contained experience.

How cross-platform play was intended to work
Rec Room said Switch players could join the wider community alongside users on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, PC/Steam, iOS and Android, Meta/Oculus devices and Pico VR. The practical benefit was access to friends and user-created content across supported devices.
Cross-platform availability did not guarantee identical graphics, controls, performance, moderation tools, update timing or every room and feature on every platform. Nintendo account policies could also affect purchases and some account functions. Switch owners should therefore read “cross-platform” as shared ecosystem access, not a promise of one-to-one feature parity with PC or VR editions.

What happened after release?
The port received post-launch maintenance. Rec Room’s November 22, 2024 update notes described the update as the company’s first major Switch update and included performance-improving fixes for the platform. That confirms the Switch version shipped as a functioning product rather than remaining a preorder announcement, while not proving that it matched the technical performance of other versions.
Can you still play Rec Room on Switch?
No live Rec Room service should be presented as available in 2026. Rec Room announced on March 30, 2026, that all of its products and services would close on June 1, 2026, at noon Pacific Time. The company’s closure notice is available at Rec Room’s official blog.

A Nintendo store page or older launch article may still show the original release information, but that is archival context. The available evidence does not establish whether the application remains downloadable, delisted or launchable from a previously installed console, so those details should not be assumed. Because the game required an internet connection and depended on Rec Room’s service, the shutdown supersedes the original availability claims.
